Television Dexter

oh btw did anyone else catch Maria's awesome logic during the interrogation? "You were carrying bags onto the boat" "it was ice to keep any fish I caught cold, my cooler broke" "But you said you didn't catch any fish"

So his future self needed to go back to his past self and tell him he didn't need to take any ice.. awesome. Of course, if you didn't expect to catch anything it's unlikely you'd even go but whatevs.

Next season has to be the last season, they've run out of ideas and all the interesting characters have either died or are being written-out.

I've gone back to watching season 1, there is a big gulf in quality between then and now.

how would they do that? Most of the interesting characters are out of Miami Metro Homicide now.. they can't even think of any funny uses for Masuka anymore and Quinn is becoming more and more pointless..

It's literally only Debra, Dexter, Quinn and Masuka left in the department now. If you noticed during the 'perp walk' through the office it was literally filled with randomers because there are so few remaining dept. staff.

Talking of Miami Metro characters, at least there was finally some purpose given to Mike, with the dvd of Deb having been provided by his widow.

I just read that they actually planed the show to end with this season but show time wanted another season, but next season will most definitely be the last.

That was stupid too though, as if he wouldn't have shown them that himself, or told them he was putting surveillance there. It was a ridiculous plot device.

And seriously, what the feck was the point of Quinn this season, or Angel, or Louis, or the guy who owned the strip club whose name I can't remember, or even Isaak seeing as he was dead in episode 10 with no further mention? If Hannah doesn't come back next season she'll have been totally pointless too, just like Lyla and Lumen were.

I agree Quinn was massively pointless but not all characters have to leave a massive impact. They are allowed to just influence a season.

Yeah but the problem is that Quinn himself is a pointless character, he's crap. If there was a side plot involving a character I actually liked then I wouldn't mind.

Yeah, there'll be complaints by some about various aspects of the episode such as that but I enjoyed it.

The direction they've put Dexter in over the last season, "breaking" his code and other things makes it look more and more like
he will die at the end of the show or get some sort of punishment
.

I like how they used Doakes in the episode.

I thought his acting was awful. It just doesn't seem realistic how he had such a hunch about Dexter

Yeah I wasn't really impressed by the Doakes stuff, it was just a way to bring a character people liked back in, but it served no real purpose and we already had enough of a back story on why Doakes found Dexter so creepy anyway, we didn't need to see a silly scene involving donuts to elaborate on that.

Quinn had a decent plotlines during seasons 4 (being manipulated by Trinity's daughter) and 5 (his vendetta against Dexter).

Already done with Doakes though, far better and with a much more satisfying conclusion, plus it ended up going nowhere.

It was (how often have I used this word now?) pointless.

I watched the finale having not seen the last 3-4 episodes and really enjoyed it. Felt like I missed out on all the pointless filler and caught all the important stuff through the "previously on Dexter" sequence. I have no idea what happened to Quinn and long may that continue.

Not sure why La Guerta was allowed to continue at her job after "framing" Dexter. She was caught planting evidence and trying to frame a fellow officer, she should have been suspended on the spot and be facing possible criminal charges!

Next season guess -

I guess next season's big guest star will be someone brought in to head the department and go up against Dexter and Deb.

I did laugh at that. I'm surprised Dexter didn't say something about it, so can only assume the writers didn't realise how dumb those lines actually came across.

Not sure how Maria didn't get suspended on the spot either for 'planting' evidence.

Either way I still enjoyed the episode, even if the ending did feel like a bit of an anti climax.

This is my favourite show ever bar the Wire.

I haven't seen the last 3 episodes and cannot find the tenth episode anywhere online. If someone could point me in the right direction via pm, I'd be very grateful.

These last few seasons I routinely got the impression that the writers were doing rewrites while the episodes were being shot - otherwise it was some terrible storytelling. There have been many holes and cul de sacs with storylines & characters.

That's probably the most disappointing aspect of the series, it has lacked the polish or writing of the first 3 or 4 seasons - which I suppose was inevitable but my word they have really diluted the quality of the overall series, IMO

I've just posted this in the tv thread but it will do here too. The greatest problem was the brilliance of John Lithgow, and the ending of series 4 ( which I didn't see coming in a million years )
Then that young Hanks was atrocious which ruined series 5

young hanks was season 6. though shows how memorable the last two season have been compared to the first lot

Lithgow is a wonderful actor and underrated in his range - often singled out for his comedic prowess but a helluva villain

I liked Smits, Benz, Jamie Murray, the Doakes character and his brother Rudy. Just seemed to be poor casting and character development after Lithgow's storyline. Would be curious to see who from the writers dropped out because there was a real decline in the quality from there.

Plus, there's never been quite enough Masuka :D

Lithgow was the original choice to play Hanibal Lecter in Silence of the lambs.

After watching Dexter I think he would have been brilliant.

Bit late to the party, but I've finally caught up on Dexter.

Very interesting to see where their taking the show. I think Deb is going to end up taking the blame for the 'Bay Harbor Butcher' and kill herself as she can't live with the guilt.

Would like it if it ended with Dexter finally getting rid of his Dark Passenger and going back to Lumen (I dislike the Hannah character, no matter how hot Yvonne is). Helping Lumen was the one good thing Dexters done (in his own fecked up way).

Assuming it's even the final series :nervous:

Oh dear...it really needs to be. I can just see it now. Series 10: Dexter and Debra have had a child together, Dexter's father was real all along and not merely a memory. He was in fact the Bay Harbor Butcher and Hannah was the mother Dexter never knew about. Dexter covers up his Dad's guilt by framing Masuka. Masuka is sent to prison and plots revenge via a Triad gang on the outside

 You know, the way the writing is going on this show, I wouldn't be surprised.

Also, they really need to bring Hannah back next season, otherwise what was the point? Just another, more evil Lumen who whilst helping fill up the plot of a season had absolutely no bearing on the overall show at all.

Watched the season 7 finale today, and I actually quite liked it. I thought on the whole that season 7 was a big improvement on season 6 which was utter dosh.

I rate the seasons like this, 1>2>4>7>3>5>6

I hope they kill Quinn or something. I don't know what's the point of him. Personally Im tired of seeing him shag sexy chicks all the time. I dunno, if he was brought in to lure female viewers or something or to show some nudity, but he's completely pointless.

Yvonne is lovely though.

Deb was able to trace LaGuerta by calling dispatch who checked the tracker in her department car. Surely the same devices are in Dexter and Deb's cars too.

I don't think either of them have dept cars, to be fair, at least certainly not Dexter and Deb would be in a rental after her BMW was totalled.

Also he found the warrant at La Guerta's place to trace the GPS on their phones if you remember.

I think you mean Yakuza, Triads are Chinese you racist ;)

But besides that I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they conjured a plot not too dissimilar to that.

just got on to season 7 now...1-4 were amazing, was completely hooked. Season 5 was a real ball ache to watch...so boring. 6 picked up, so i'm not holding out much for this one...will have to see.

4 was my favourite with trinity

Any chance it is better again in season 6?

Started the show, so might as well finish it!
Still going downhill in season six, but gets better again in season 7. Still not as good as the first four season though. Still watchable

Finally caught up and watched season 7, once again found the first 5 episodes a bit hard to get into, but ended up watching the last 7 in quick succession, thought the arsonist arc was poor, looked like it might be good then suddenly it ended in a whimper. Was obvious deb was gonna do what she did, she's not exactly gonna shoot dexter is she, dunno how they can cover up what happened though, and why was there no blood on her dress at angels party?

What she did in the crate was improvised. It wasn't in the script but Jennifer Carpenter decided to go to Laguerta and the director decided it was good so they kept it.

I think the problem was the party and the crate scene were filmed at different times (with the party being done first). I do think they could have worked around it but didn't.

Season 8 will start 30th June Showtime have said.

Also there seems to be more and more talk of a 9th season. Despite how much I love the show I think they should end it with this season, as I'm guessing most people in this thread do.

Anyone know when season 7 is airing in the UK? A friend is wondering.
