Television Dexter

The series got so bad by the end that it tainted even the first few seasons for me, I've had no wish to rewatch it in all this time. The most recent season may have been marginally better than the worst parts of the original run, but still pretty bad. No need to keep flogging this dead horse.

The ending Phillips had in mind sounded really good too. and would have been fantastic to watch

however his replacement was crap. The guy who also has iron fist and Inhumans to his name ...
What was the ending?

Hopefully this works:

Clyde Phillips’ Original Dexter Ending Plan
Clyde Phillips revealed (via EW) after Dexter’s controversial season 8 ending in 2013 that had he stayed on the show, he would have pitched a very different finale. Phillips envisioned that the final scene of Dexter’s series would have had Dexter waking up - with the audience thinking the events were a dream - only for the camera to pan out and show that Dexter is waking up on the executioner’s table at Florida Penitentiary. Dexter would open his eyes and as the drugs to kill him were administered, he would look out the window to the observation gallery and see every person that he has ever killed, or whose death he was responsible for. Phillips elaborated that every episodic kill, the Ice Truck Killer, the Trinity Killer, Rita, LaGuerta, Doakes, and Lila would all be there - everyone from the small weekly victims to the major deaths of the series. The final scene of Dexter’s original series would have essentially shown everything that happened over the past eight seasons in just a few seconds, with Dexter’s life literally flashing before his eyes as he’s executed for his Bay Harbor Butcher crimes.

Havent seen new blood but I know the writing for that was catastrophically shit, just reading general comments and the plot. The last 3 seasons of the main series famously fell off a cliff in terms of quality to become as meme-worthy as the last season of GoT.

What is it with this pathologic urge to keep letting clown writers near once-great IPs.

The main showrunners and best writing team left Dexter after season four, and finished off Nurse Jackie, which improved hugely.

The last four seasons. But it coincides with the new person who did the last season also doing and somehow flopping with iron fist and Inhumans.

I thought new blood was mostly good fun but the ending wasn't done well.

Just seen the thing from SDCC about Resurrection. Surely that'll be based on Harrison with Dexter as his "Dark passenger" like Deb was in the New Blood series.

Michael C. Hall hinted in an interview afterwards that Dexter is alive, so that seems unlikely, but we'll see. He also said there could potentially be multiple seasons.

2:00 onwards for the part mentioned.

How they would get his character out of killing an innocent police officer before he got shot, I don't know. I'm sure they'll come up with something ridiculous. The showrunner for New Blood (Clyde Phillips) strolled back in like Billy Big Balls thinking he would fix the ending of season 8, but managed to make the ending even worse. He also said in an interview afterwards that "Dexter is dead." I guess a big bag of money for all involved has changed that.

And who is going to play the young English titty vampire? I want to hear her say "detsta" again

This was very good initially, but had too many seasons. Should have just capped it at five.

I’m always up for more Dexter.

I’m still angry about how incredibly shit they ended the latest season. Even worse than the main show.

It was so bad that I'd be up for the last 10 minutes being a dream sequence after he takes a nap in his jail cell  Then when the Police realise they actually have no real evidence, he'd be free to go.

I didn’t even watch the ending once I realised what was going to happen. I turned it off.

They could have it so a necromancer sees his corpse and brings him back from the dead and I wouldn't give a shit. Anything to avoid a season of Harrison.

Its quite impressive to have a shit ending, have a redo, and still do a shit ending

Thing is, i think the latest seasn would be worse too, because at least for the original run, you had signs it was going shit for the last few seasons.
The latest season I thought was a lot of fun, but then just dived.

Remember when Deb realised she was in love with Dexter? Ridiculous show.

Not watched New Blood but I remember loving the original series. I have no idea why though. I remember certain characters (who I can't even name), but I can't remember any of the major plot lines.
