Television Dexter

Meh, I find it a bit lacking. Plotlines all over the place, the dialogue isn't as sharp and witty as before, Julia Stiles a shit actress, la Guerta and Angel bore me to death, Quinn is crap. The last 2 episodes have been good but there are so many plot holes and ridiculous things going on right now that it's hard to take the show seriously anymore.

'So many plot holes', such as?

Got a feeling Quinn will kill the spy. Twist on the loyalty aspect of the show and whos side Quinn is really on. The more episodes go by the more this guy seems to be blackmailing quinn for more work and more money.

'So many plot holes', such as?

Well, in this episode alone...

Cole broke through the hotel door, knocking the hinges off, how the hell would that not get linked back to Dexter, seeing as he booked that room for the night.
How exactly did Dexter manage to get back into the room so quietly if the chain was on it?
A hotel like that not having CCTV? Yeah right.

The deaths are just getting less believable and silly, the dentist guy was just daft, the way they did it, funny with the whole Masuka bit after but come on, one of the best aspects of Dexter was always the kinda ... believability of it, they always tried to make everything like it could actually be possible, but this season that hasn't been the case at all, they're just doing whatever it takes to advance the plot.

Terrific episode :D I wonder what that mean for Dexter now Liddy has pictures. I mean all it would show is him dropping bags into the ocean right? No actual body parts. Can't wait for the next episode.

Yeah I remember that but this spy guy is obsessed at doing a really good job
Well even if they can't find the bags there will be serious questions to be answered when Quinn sees this.

Looked like pictures only showed them loading the suitcases onto the boat, no dropping of black bags.

Yeah just saw that again. Pics do show them loading suitcases but I think there is one bag?

I reckon they're going to turn it into Dexter has a lover that killed Rita and made it look like Trinity. Peter Wellers character will see it as his salvation and be able to use it to blackmail LaGuerta but Quinn will investigate further and come upon the truth, then there will be a reckoning between him and Dex, but I don't think that will happen until the next season. This one will end with Quinn discovering the truth about Dexter, the following season will be the repurcussions of it.

Who's Doyle?

I thought Julia Stiles was incredibly hot in the latest episode, how has this not been mentioned? And I don't really think she's anything special, but she had that hot girl next door look!

Other than that, great episode as already mentioned. I also thought the season got off to a pretty slow start, but I suppose that was to be expected after losing John Lithgow and following what was for me the best season since the first.

Now I just hope the ditch the LaGuerta / Angel lovey-dovey stuff altogether, because that is absolute gash. I thought it was pretty much the only bad thing in last season, and they put way too much emphasis on it, so the quicker the ditch it altogether the better.

didnt like the whole aster shit, other than

"By the way, that's your liver"

Good cliffhanger/ending and next week looks amazing, everything is going at a good pace now.

yes, it's a measure of light, isn't it?

Yes. Ivor explained it in the spoiler tags in the post which I quoted. Don't know if you missed it and thought I quoted yours.

Anyway, the name of one of the previous episodes: Everything is Illumenated" gives away a little as well, IMO.

Lumen can also mean the inside of, for example, a cell, but I don't think that's what they're getting at with her.

Thinking about it now, Lumen is the counter to Dexter's dark passenger. From what I remember a Lumen is equivalent to the amount of light one candle sheds on one square foot.

There was a moment in the last episode where Dexter's dad said he didn't give him enough credit (about the Aster stuff) and if he had he might not have made him into what he is today, really solidified what Lumen brings

Bloody hell if the next episode can come anywhere close to living up to the trailer it'll be epic

Great episode. Is it me or they lasting much longer than normal episodes, not that I'm complaining. Ending sets the stage for the final few episodes now.

I actually really like that, which is suprising because she irritated me last season. I'm loving this season frankly, in many ways I think its actually better than last. Maybe not villain wise, but we're really digging into who Dexter Morgan really is and Lumen imo is a perfect foil.

Just a shame theres not many episodes left :(

I agree with this - I much prefer her to Rita too

Nice to see Harry return for Dexter. 3 more episodes until end of season. :(

Good to have Harry back and for once show some remorse for making Dexter the monster he is. Dexter's parenting hasn't improved much, comparing Astor to a raccoon
The episode kind of summed up what's been going on this season and how the characters are trying to figure out who they are (Dexter trying to move on from Rita and find a companion whilst trying to balance being a father and monster, LaGuerta regaining her bitchiness, Quinn & Debra's relationship and people starting to find out about Dexter).

Next week's looks epic, I wonder how close Debra will get to discovering the truth about Dexter.

Surely the season is going to end with Quinn killing that dectective fella to try and save his relationship with Deb?

I think both Quinn and the detective will die and I reckon Debra might kill one of them, if she finds out the truth about Dexter. In the preview for next week's episode she says 'there's some vigilante' going around killing Jordan Chase's crew. In last week's episode she said she didn't feel anything when she shot one of the brothers in the club, and if she thinks the vigilante thing is a good idea, maybe she will try to protect Dexter and kill Quinn/detective to keep Dexter's secret.

I'm probably wide of the mark, but I really hope they let Debra's character find out more about Dexter.

Nice episode.
I think this Libby character has got the perfect actor for the role. The last few minutes with Jordan Chase and Lumen on the phone were intense. It's shaping up for a very good finish even I finish I don't understand the point in introducing Astor back into the story
Just seen the preview for the next episode
Surely that Libby fella won't be alive for long
@Solius:No it's not just you, the episodes are longer

Great episode, the quiet before the storm.
Yay Harrys back and for once he's not being a miserable bugger. If one of Debs or Quinn/(Doyle) don't find out about Dexter and confront him then the season will be a major dissapointment. Looks to me that whilst Dexter has revealed the more human sides of himself, he is now more than ever in danger. This pretense can't be kept up forever in the series if their stories aren't to become a joke. Either Dexter needs Debs and or Quinn to know and work with him or I see Dexter truly on the run in the future. Also expect a few more twists with the 2 unknown rapists.

I thought it was like an episode of Lost, 54 minutes of filler and then a big ending. It just didn't work for me.

Seriously, the shit with Astor was dull as feck, she's 12 years old, the whole thing felt completely wrong, and the stuff with her friends dad abusing her? Who cares? Pointless.

Robocunt is a good character, the show needs more of him.

Still not convinced by Lumen, Julia Stiles just has so little screen presence, she bores me.

And has Dexter become thick as pigshit or something? Seriously, stealing blood from that tiny vial that Jordan Chase clearly loves, and he actually thought he wouldn't notice that it was missing. They keep adding these moments of idiocy and silliness in order to advance the plot, that just did not happen in previous seasons.

Poor season for me, it'll take an almighty final 3 episodes to change that.

I have no problems with th Astor storyline. It's not pointless, it grounds Dexter as a human being, he had a family he loved, they were taken from him, this gave him a chance to reconnect and show his human side which proves he has a lot to lose overall. If it was just about him killing all the time there would never be any sense of danger or drama andthre show would become as unemotive as Dexter himself was in the first season.

It's more so Astor than Dexter, the way she acted for a 12 year old girl was so unrealistic. It was just daft and I found the whole thing with her, her friend and her friends dad completely needless.

I didn't, but yes she is a shit actress.

Btw I thought Cina's pov on this season was a bit extreme a few weeks ago but now I can hardly disagree with him.
it was always a risk giving Dexter another dimension from the ruthless killer in a season 1, that plus the plot holes don't make me appreciate this season as previous ones

True, it's a funny one though, because I still enjoy the show more than most on telly, but I guess I've just come to expect such a high standard of it that this season just hasn't lived up to.

Then again, how the feck can you possibly follow up a season like season 4?
