Television Dexter

I don't think people seriously put it in the same bracket at the Wire, Sopranos or West Wing......do they? (obviously they need to have seen them 3 shows to make any such statement about 'best ever' and many others)

New season has started pretty great really.

I think its definitely better than the Wire and West Wing, and enjoy it more than the Sopranos.

More enjoyable? Sure I could buy that, that's your personal preference really. Better than them? lol.

Well define better, since we are talking about tv shows I would imagine entertainment value would rank highly in any such criteria? The wire, Mad Men etc are undoubtedly great character driven shows but the fact that they deal with more real issues doesn't necessarily make them better. For my money Dexter's character has as much depth, as many complexities as any of the characters in mad men, west wing or the sopranos

What makes dexter great for me is that its a topic that now other show has touched and its obvious the show is not afraid to take any direction necessary to explore the character further. Thats what makes it great for me, and for my money I have not seen another character that is as engaging, or another show that has as many quirks or as much subtlety as the show does.

That plus Michael C Hall plays the character to perfection, really a phenomenal actor who is very underrated

Same thing as with Breaking Bad, if it's not a fecking Hollywood action flick people get upset. Go watch Die Hard.

What! I clearly explained the reasons in the other posts, I'm hardly an action junky as I also implyed, you can calm down now Mr. Hall...

Well I don't know because I'm not a script writer, but I think it tranfers from my first point that the script isn't that great so therefore Dexter the show is not at it's best unless there's a faster pace to it, where as The Wire or The Sopranos could slow down and still be great T.V . Having said that I really like the show and will watch it until it finishes.

Oh, sorry, my reply was too hasty and not really warranted, since I now see that most posters here agree that a slow start was logical and necessary, and you have backed your opinion well. Intoxicated by two Dexter episodes and beers. (I probably projected my annoyance with quite a few people who watch Breaking Bad unto Dexter viewers!)

Well I prefered the second episode to the first so it's improving;) and the second episode was probably slower too.

I've enjoyed the first 2 episodes, whilst the action hasn't been that great you can see where they're setting up how the season will go. There's also been a lot more going on with the mindset of dexter himself and we've actually seen him experiencing emotions that he wasn't able to control.

Good episode

Back to its intense best, IMO

funny episode
specially the part in Fowler's truck telling Dexter about the "take it" DVDs.I rarely laugh this much when watching Dexter.
Gotta admit that the actor playing Fowler has done a good job on this one.
And Masuka with his legendary laugh and saying "Justin Bieber ... Not that I'd know who that is "

Masuka's laugh when he said the head case thing

Just seen 10 mins and already finding myself laughing a lot

"Your son is going to be just fine" before he pops out the toys head really got me laughing

And the exchange between Masuka and the rest before that.

Oh and anyone else thought Harrison looked slightly nuts when he was with that Nanny? :D"

What an episode. Absolutely loved it!

Next weeks episode is going to be absolutely epic

Holy shit! So many questions for next week!

I hope that kid does Dexter a favor after how Dexter helped him!

Didn't expect that bit at the end after the kill, shit just got real.

Great episode

Interesting, but not mind blowing. Still waiting to see the episode that defines the season.

Just finished watching season 4 and it was epic. John Lithgow was brilliant, easily the best antagonist so far. Imo, this was the best season in the series. Dexter's character development was better executed this time than in season 3.

Also, good to see the writers went with a bold ending by killing Rita. Also, will be interesting how much more Debra finds out about Dexter's past in the next season.

Edit: I am right when I say Trinity killed Rita? If anyone answers this, please do not refer to anything that might have be revealed in season 5, I haven't got that far yet :)
On a side note, it's fecking pathetic UK viewers will have to wait 1 year before season 5 premiers here. FX still have 3 episodes to show from season 4, why can't they show it a few weeks after the US airdate rather than waiting a whole fecking year?:mad:

Thank God for internet...

Yea Trinity killed her. I think it's also brilliant that you know exactly which way he killed her, adds to the shock value.

Another great episode, I like the slower pace this season. While the suspense has always been a great part of the show, seeing different aspects of Dexter's character has always been the highlight for me. The character is so complex and Michael C Hall pulls of the part brilliantly

yeah, this was mid season form episode alright. So many questions from the last episode got answered here.
They have almost made it another start from here on

Slow paced but I have gotten used to them.It can't always be about killing targets.Dexter more than makes up for the boring moments.I like how Boyd wasn't the only one

Been a relatively slow start to the season, but it's definitely getting better. Me likey...

More Masuka please...that guy makes me laugh almost every scene he's in.

Analysis of S5 E4:
In some ways, I actually thought that was the best episode of the season so far. The suspense is killing me at the momment and just when you think you can see whats going to happen next, the rug gets pulled out from under you.

Julia Stiles is a worthy addition to the cast, expecting her to shine in the next few episodes. Her character is already starting to take shape nicely.

Can't seem to work out what Quinn is going to do next! Although I have a theory that he'll find out the truth and decide not to take action. He seems to be the only cop that could understand Dexters logic. He is after all a dirty cop.

i agree - i thoroughly enjoyed this epsiode
you could almost see Dexter's thought process when she said there were others! I wondered how she was going to fit in but I think `i can see where it's going. This new season is going to be a cracker!
