Television Dexter

recently got into this, and just finished every episode. Great show, season 3 was probably the weakest. All the others were good, John Lithgow plays his character to perfection in season 4. I was really surprised with it though, wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as i have, best series on TV at the moment.
Season 2 was a bit of a let down and I hated that character Lila. I'm just into the 3rd and it looks promising. Overall a captivating series.

Terrible first 2 episodes. Literally nothing has happened. Just mediocre drama and barring Dexter some really bad acting.

Astor really annoys me. Glad she's heading off to Orlando with her grandparents. Mother and daughter. Equally annoying.

Anyway it should pick up pace now that the kids are gone and Quinn pieced together that sketch.

One thing that really annoys me :

Quinn showing absolutely no depression about losing his girlfriend? It's been a few weeks since she died and he's showing no sadness at all?

I thought season four was an excellent season in any context but to say that Dexter is the best series ever is a bit of a stretch. The acting I think can be very good but where Dexter falls down compared to the really great dramas is in the writing, it's not as funny, subtle or engaging as the best. It's not in the same league as Sopranos, Six feet under, The West Wing, The Wire or Mad Men. It's still an excellent show mind. The new season has got off to a poor start IMO.

How would you have liked it to start, considering everything that had happen?
I know it has started off slow, but you cant come out with all guns barring after last season's finale

Indeed. It was practically impossible to start this season with the same old Dexter doing his thing as per usual since so many big things happened in this life.
I personally enjoyed these first 2 episodes, they're slow in comparison to the typical Dexter tempo but they're well done filmed and most importantly well scripted.
Things will get back to their best judging from how the episode 2 ended

Glad the kids have gone. I know the first 2 episodes would have to resolve how Dexter would handle Rita's death, and i'm glad the kids have been shipped off. Hopefully episode 3 the season will really start because the first two have been quite pedestrian.

Well i don't know because I'm not a script writer, but I think it tranfers from my first point that the script isn't great so therefore Dexter the show is not at it's best unless there's a faster pace to it, where as The Wire or The Sopranos could slow down and still be great T.V . Having said that I really like the show and will watch it until it finishes.

I like this show because I may think like Dexter and does not disapprove of how he handles stuff. So for me, this is great tv no matter what. I have no issue with the pace. This is a show that I really don't want to complain about, or even look for stuff to complain about. It is just lovely to me

I see dead turkey about to be marinated and roasted for Thanksgiving meal
Could also be an angry Wolf or fox.
Is this some Serial Killer test? Dexter is not a serial killer, he kills people who just deserve to die. There is a time for everything.

1st episode spoiler

Guy in the bathroom probably didn't deserve to die, despite being a cnut

Why do you guys watch this? I know a part of me feel happy when he gets some despicable characters.
If I had Dexter skills, I will serious go after people who rape/hurt/kill children.

Agreed. Time for everything though, time for everything.

Dexter is a serial killer though championo, he has killed people, several times.

Serial killers just kill people randomly without cause. Dexter's cause are fully justified in my opinion, he might slip and not follow the code once in a while, but he is not perfect.

No you're thinking of psychopaths, a serial killer will choose his victims deliberately. Even if he is doing good it still makes him a serial killer. Dexter even said it himself in ep 1.

He's also killed two(?) people I think that didn't fall in line with the code. The photographer guy and the one in S5 EP1.

Oh well, I may not want to kill people, but I am more like Dexter, I am horrible with small talk, I am awkward, I never fit in, awful with relationships and I have a strong hate for people who get away from crime.

You are 90% of the earth.

Astor's such an annoying bitch, and a really bad actress.

Pretty slow start but as others have said a necessary one. Now with Quinn putting that picture together, the kids out of the way and Dexter discovering the bodies it should pick up.

I guess this could be the appeal of Dexter, we may not approve of his xtra stuff, but some of us don't necessarily disapprove it, even though we don't approve. Make sense?

I don't know about that, but a lot of us can just identify with how he feels. How often do we behave or try to behavge in the way we are expected to rather how we really feel?

Maybe i'm used to watching shit tv, but I thought that 2nd episode was fantastic. A very good character episode to allow us a deeper look into Dexters mindset and realise that actually, he is a human after all. It needed to be a slow start to be able to really understand what the death of Rita means to Dexter and how much its changed his life. After all, only the death of Deb would effect Dexter more, so i'm not surprised its hit him hard and losing the 2 kids is the final straw. Expect Rambo Dexter next episode :)

This I agree with. Feel first two episodes have been brilliant. Had me on a different feeling to what I'm used to with Dexter, before hand it was a feeling of will he be caught? But those two episodes have given a much deeper emotional side to his character.

I agree with you completely, I can't understand why people have been upset with the first two episodes, its come out exactly like I hoped it would, but just goes to show that you can't please everyone, different people have different expectations. For me the show has always been about Dexter, his psyche and how his background shaped how he is. All the things that happen around him are just intended to further explore his mind, and the first two episodes have done just that, explore the psychology of Dexter, albeit without anything 'happening' per say.

Its the more normal situations that make Dexter interesting. While most people hopefully wont have to deal with the death of a spouse, death of a loved one is part of life, and seeing how Dexter reacts to that has been brilliant so far.

I really don't know where you are coming from with that, the subtlety of the show and its dark humor are what make it so great. And I can't agree with not being engaging either.

Anyways, different horses for different courses:D
