Television Dexter

But I love Deb. She has become a policewoman to make her dad happy

Uh huh....

whether she is suited to it or not doesn't matter to her

I don't really care if it doesn't matter to her...It should matter to all the people working with her. She's inept and liable to burst into tears at the merest mention of something upsetting...or stepping on a pin.

and I don't know about you but I know plenty of inept people who do ok in the workplace.

Yes, but a detective in the homicide department isn't your average "workplace"...she's an appalling candidate for any position of authority. She's just completely unbelievable in that job...and incredibly annoying.

First season was the best...clearly...It was the first season. But this last one is easily the best since it, and runs it close overall and betters it in many facets (the ending was better than the 1st season for one)

Lithgow was better than the Ice Truck Killer but the ITK crimes were better, and Dexters fascination with them were more interesting. Quinn isn't as good as Doakes (though they're both completely uninvolving) and I still can't stand Deb....At least in the first season she was a shit police woman getting help from her brother and clearly just perceived as such..now she's a detective?...I mean come on. She's the shittest, most unbelievable police person, let alone detective, ever put on screen...and I'm including Inspectors Clouseau and Gadget in that. Every scene she's ever in I end up shouting at the screen. I wouldn't put this woman in charge of fetching me towels let alone murder investigations....She'd probably break down at how fluffy and absorbant the towels were and cry for 20 minutes before sleeping with an inappropriate person for no apparent reason before crying again because she doesn't have any tits.

Disagree, but I suppose it's a matter of opinion. The 4th series of Dexter blew me away, to be honest.

It's probably the best thing I've seen on television.

I prefer the first season as it was exploring the mind of a serial killer more, thn the next few seasons repeated and humanised him. The next series looks like the handbooks been thrown out an we'll return to the psycho side.

I sort of know what you mean, but he wasn't exactly placid in the other seasons. ;)

No but it was the same old same old. I loved season 4 and it took it away from the books which is a good thing and now they have a myriad possibilities they can go all thanks to Lithg and the writers.

OK, time to get through Seasons 3 and 4 before Season 5 starts. I'll update you all with my thoughts which I'm sure you'll appreciate.

This Season 4 finale better be as good as everybody tells me it is.

It's better than having sex, drugged up on a wide variety of chemicals, whilst having the last two minutes of the 1999 Champions League final played over and over again in the background.

Ten times better.

I named one of my twin boys after this series.

My wife hates being asked why 'Dexter'.

'oh, after the serial killer on TV'

Cant wait for the new series. Series 4 was very very good. I agree with most. Season 1 was great, 2 and 3 were not so, but 4 topped it. I hope 5 gets more gory.

Heheh, good on you Burnsy.

I finally finished watching the fourth season.. What an incredible season.. Can't wait for the new one.

Why did so many people say Season 3 was rubbish? I think it's been very good, started off slowly but the second half of the season has been excellent. Not as good as the first 2 seasons but still thoroughly enjoyable.

Moving onto the final episode of the season now.

Season 3 was excellent. Migual was a great character and Jimmy Smits played him with such conviction. I personally think every season of Dexter has been great. Obviously 1 and 2 will stick out cause we were learning about Dex and his world but it's just got richer with every season and after the bombshell season 4 I can't hardly wait for season 5.

Dex is back !!!

I don't think people said it was rubbish, they just think it was the worst of the 4 so far. Personally I thought it was great. Miguel Prado and his prying into Dexter's life and what eventually became of that was really engrossing.

I just really disliked Miguel. I thought Jimmy Smits was a bit of a shit actor.

It wasn't just that...it added a layer to dexter we hadn't seen before. We got to see Dexter let someone into his inner circle, to see him as very few others had. It explored what true friendship would be like (something Season 1 and 2 just didn't do) and that's why i think Dexter is one of the best shows on TV. It takes a character that most people should be instantly repulsed by, and then adds these layers, rationale, pathology and back story so we sympathize and ultimately root for him.

Every season we get to see a new side to Dexter, and that is very rewarding for those who follow and love the character. The show works on many levels and that to me is why I can rewatch a Dexter season again and again because each viewing makes me appreciate something new about the characters that make up his world.

Shit actor? Come on, he was awesome...maybe you disliked him because of the character he played, and if that's the case it's even more proof that he's a terrific actor.

I prefer season 3 to 2. Season 2 was ruined by Layla, probably the most annoying character in anything ever, and I never really like Doakes either.

clearly, you've never watched Break Bad then...Skyler is the most annoying character ever. Doakes was awesome. Many fans were actually annoyed at what happened to him. He was perfect work foil for Dexter. Layla...ok, granted she had her moments, but she was a perfect blend of crazy for me. Didn't hurt that Jamie Murry showed her tits once or twice either.

If Layla was the British girl from Hustle, I agree, she was awful, I hate overly British characters in American shows, dunno why, just always happens to be an annoying character.

Tara isn't anymore annoying then Sookie...Betty I agree had her moments last season, but this year she's hardly featured. She's basically just there to pretty things up.

No I've never seen that, keep meaning to watch it but I've got so much to catch up with, only just started season 2 of Chuck!

Doakes was so one dimensional though and that dimension was pretty bland, yeah he could kick ass but most of the time he was just giving moody looks. And he has a face like a badger.

Sookie is Anna Paquin right, only got through a few episodes of true blood before giving up. Anna Paquin would probably get second on my list of annoying characters from The Piano where she played the little girl, maybe it's just her.

Tara from True Blood.
Betty from Mad Men.

And I liked Layla!

Don't know either of these.

Layla was a horrible character though, if you get past the fact she's hot and has her tits out she was terrible, every scene with her was either woefully corny or jarring to the rest of the show. Still makes me shudder thinking of her.

If I wanted hot and tits, I'd just watch porn. When I watch TV I don't want to get incredibly annoyed by characters that it ruins my viewing, which is what she did, neither Tara/Betty come close. Kate in Lost was pretty goddamn annoying though, not so bad though.

Breaking Bad is awesome. Don't let Skylar's character put you off because Mr White and Jesse (and a host of other interesting characters) more then make up for it. Doakes was one dimensional, but that was the point. He's an ex-marine who's carrying around a bit of baggage and looks at life as black and white. You get those sort of characters in law enforcement and it complimented Dexter pretty nicely as well as he knew in his bones that there was something not quite right with Dex.
