Dele Alli - Performance Thread 2017/18

How the feck he keeps escaping cards for all his diving! that's crazy! he should play for barcelona!

Wow that was the most blatant yet-he is getting clever though, didn't make a big fuss and appeal-if he had that would probably have seen a card.

The player with the least sportsmanship in the league. He actively cheats his way through games, or by trying to hurt players.

Aw but he comes from a difficult background and you all have a preconceived negative view of him.

He's a cnut. Cannot wait for when he ends up at some fecking Stoke or some other shit in a couple of years.

First one was a pen second was a dive, he's fecking himself hard as the refs simply aren't taking him seriously. It's a case of the boy who cried wolf.

Just seen MotD coverage … not sure I'll bother to watch England in the WC if this cheating twat is playing as well as Swallow-dive Sterling!

Both players could be so much better if they just believed in themselves more and went for the score not the dive … all in my humble opinion, blah, blah fecking blah!

He definitely is one of the best young players in his position in the world. His stats back that up.100%. Show me another player 21 or under with better stats than Alli the past 3 seasons? Since he burst on to the scene people have been desperate to pull him down.

He's absolutely class.

Yep the conundrum is he has world class stats (for a midfielder especially) but very average performances this season and parts of last season. And also do we still really class him as a midfielder or is he really a double centre forward with Kane now? And if so his stats are much less impressive.

I think he’s a very limited number 10 (due to limited skill set) but the kid has great potential especially in EPL as he has quite a British quality about him that suits our game more (lungs, aggression, heading, runs) and I think Spurs would get the best out him as an 8 performance wise but then they’d lose his goals. I can see why Poch plays him up top though but imo it’s wasting him and like Pogba his performances eventually will suffer. If England fail at the World Cup I can see this guy being the one the media go after in typical English fashion (build them up and then knock them down).

There are many players capable of diving, but with someone like Alli, you almost expect him to dive now. He really needs to improve or he will be branded the way Ronaldo was for many years after his early years-diving.

Being a complete asshole aside, I used to really rate the kid but this season, he seems to have stagnated to some extent.

There are plenty of us who see it, what amazes me is the fact most teams have players that do it but don't want to admit it .

I'm struggling to think of anyone in the league that dives as much as Dele Alli does though.

It feels like every week he's trying to con the ref.

I agree hes at it a lot, and its starting to cost him, the first one was a penalty and wasn't given.

Yeah that first one was a penalty. He's the boy who cried wolf now though.

@Brightonian I'd play Lingard behind Kane at the World Cup if I had to choose right now. He's had a better season than Alli domestically and Alli has continually been poor for England.

I think Southgate will go with Alli though.

So if England head off to a world cup right now, who do you play behind the striker, Alli or Lingard?

Alli every day of the week. Not to mention the fact that Alli and Kane actually play together in the same club side so that chemistry is invaluable.

Yes, he has not hit the heights of the last two seasons but he is a young footballer and they always have a season early on in their careers when they drop off a little bit. Let's not forget it was only last season he had over 20 PL goals.

Think England’s only hope is to have a formation that can upset teams. Like two upfront like Vardy and Kane or Rashford with Kane. Think if they go 433 or 4231 they will get pumped.

There is none operating to his levels of consistency in terms of cheating. What most Spurs fans do often is deflect by saying exactly what you did, that other teamd have them too. Like in some way, it should excuse that from him.

No Im saying he needs to cut it out big time, also many on here said the first foul was a dive when it clearly wasn't. As for bringing up other players and teams I think its just reality, it doesn't excuse it but singling out one player without looking at football as a whole is nonsensical, perspective is needed to have a fair debate.

He doesn't get singled out though. That is your impression, there are plenty of divers around. Alli is one the most consistent one and this is his thread so of course other players won't be mentioned.

Not surprised though. With your manager endorsing these things, players would want to do it more and more.
