What about this Atleti keeper? He's really impressed me.

Edit - just as I write this Real score:D

Is supposedly one of the next generation of top keepers...

Look who is third on the list though...
That guy is a legend on twitter!

He's huge!

The obvious candidates are Cech and Lloris, but it will not be easy to prize them away since their respective club might favour to sell to another club than ours. Lloris might also be more expensive than the fee that De Gea might generate.

Yea but Leno might need a season when the pressure is off him like when Lindegaard were playing a lot of times instead of De Gea in DDG's first season.
Leno is taller and far better in the air than Valdez. He is also a decade younger so it would be more easy for him to adapt to the league.

If we sign him I would guess it'll be him on the league while Valdez on UCL because of his massive experience there.

Yea I was actually thinking about Oblak myself for some time now. I mean, Atleti can tell whether the keeper's good enough or not, no? DDG, Courtois, now they've got yet another young and talented goalkeeper on their hands and whenever I watch Oblak play, he's pulling out some good saves.

Yep. When it comes to keepers and strikers, Atleti are kings.

Keeper on the last 5 years: De Gea, Courtuis, Oblak
Strikers in the last 10 years: Torres, Forlan, Aguero, Falcao, Costa. Likely Vietto next season.

I think it's becoming very clear that he will leave. A contract is on the table and he hasn't signed it. We need to start looking for a replacement!
I'm certain that United are well aware De Gea will be leaving and probably have a few ideas of players to replace him. Valdes is already a pretty good replacement but finding a keeper as good as DDG will be tricky. My guess is we'll go for Lloris as our number 1 target and if that fails we'll target and U23 player and have him as Valdes's understudy for a season or two before stepping up.

Yes, Lloris or Scuffet will do although I still hope De Gea signs. :(

Cech would be the best choice imo. Perfect age, experienced and just a quality goalkeeper. Good personality too from what I know. I have big hopes for Milinkovic too so could take over from Cech when he's done.

I don't see where else Cech would prefer to go if Champions League football is a must. Juventus will have Buffon for a few more years, Bayern have Neuer, Barcelona are good, Ospina is looking solid for Arsenal. There's been rumors to PSG but I don't see any reason for them to replace Sirigu.

It's extremely frustrating that he doesn't want to stay and become part a positive future for United, but if he wants to go and join that shower of endless bullshit then fine. He'll have a dodgy spell, the fans will turn and he'll be out on his arse on loan at Roma or something.

Players move on. He's replaceable, as long as be bring on some top defenders.

Exactly, I love DDG, but if he leaves it's not the end of the world, all players are replaceable and no player is bigger than the club.

Leno is the obvious choice if we want a young experienced goalkeeper. Im pretty sure we've been looking for keepers for a while. Wouldnt shock me if we start with Valdes while our new signing gets used to the country and settles in the squad.

Why Roma:lol:

As soon as he'll have a bad patch they'll turn on him, true, cause they're like that.
here he had and would have endless support.

We'll move on.

I don't think he'll have a serious dodgy spell. He's closer to a Cristiano or Ramos than to a Robben or Sneijder. No major injury issues or serious flaws to undermine him. I wouldn't blame him for leaving any more than Ronaldo. Madrid are a bigger club than we are in the Spanish/Portuguese world.

We should definitely play hardball, though. If Madrid aren't offering enough, it wouldn't be insane to let him leave for free. If the numbers Google vomits are up (and they may not be) He'll make about 3.7 million pounds next year and Van Persie will make about 12-13. De Gea is worth minimum 15-20 million a year at his current level, being conservative, so if Madrid want to offer us 20 million for him, we should seriously consider him and take a year to determine who the replacement should be.

In terms of a replacement, you'd think Lloris, Handanovic and Leno are the most obvious choices for us to scout. The X factor could be Cech or Casillas joining a team and their keeper becoming available, in the form of Sirigu at PSG, Forster at Southampton (Cech rumoured to maybe be going there) or maybe Mandanda at Marseille.

This should also serve as a reminder that Herrera is up already in 2018, so we need to get him signed in 2016.

Good point, but the way I look at it is if he has his mind elsewhere then just let him go. Watching the final season of Ronaldo for example just didn't feel the same knowing he wanted to go.

Think we'll struggle to find the right replacement and we may go into the new campaign with Valdes as #1.

What's Milinkovic like out of curiosity? Guys a monster.

I'd rather we get a young keeper and mould him with Valdes taking the spot in the interim. The good thing is there are quite a few good young keepers in the sub-25 age range so we can afford to take our time if need be.

Still, I'd much rather DDG signed the bloody contract :(

Forgot to mention this, but a few weeks ago Terry Payne mentioned on TV here that there is a good chance this will happen. It could start a keeper merry-go-round.

People saying they struggle to think of a replacement, I'll be honest I struggle to think why he'd leave

He's got compatriots
He's doing a stonking job
He's young
We're clearing putting money into the squad
The mangers vision seems to be coming good
He'll be offered a bumper pay deal

At his age he should be moving under these conditions

fingers crossed

We are not Real Madrid and we arent in Spain. His family is. His girlfriend is. He will be back home. Much more attention playing for Madrid. More Spaniards as teammates. Better weather. Nicer city maybe. Could lead him to becoming the starting keeper for Spain. More money maybe?

It's worrying. I still think he will sign a new deal and stay a few more years... I hope.

We look like we will be competing for the title next season. He surely will want to be a part of that. He has many years ahead of him.

You managed not to quote the rest of my post that explained why I thought this, everyone is aware of the Real Madrid lure, esp for Spanish players

I stand by what I said, he has plenty of time to make his move later, and if he has faith in his ability he shouldn't worry about it not coming around again

And I answered it in mine.
He will more Spanish teammates.
What does doing a 'stonking' job have to do with anything?
Real also put money into the squad.
They also have a good manager.
They can give a bigger pay day than we can.

Okay well that's a pretty pessimistic outlook, and I'll not take that away form you as there's form to suggest it's a realistic view, plus our addition of Valdes points to this also, but I'd prefer to try and look at the (fairly realistic imo) positive view point

Let us part ways on this and put it down to a difference in opinion ?

I'd rather take my chances with De Gea.

If he was staying he would have penned a new deal by now and you know it. The club have obviously prioritised him and offered him a bucket load of money, and today LVG put the ball in his court and pretty much confirmed big money had been thrown at him. Why else wouldn't he have signed if he wasn't going?

I want a world class player who is hungry for trophies, Lloris is perfect.

feck Lloris, I want Cech, he'd be the 2nd best goalie in the league and this is a great situation for him to swap Chelsea for.
