Who is your preferred replacement for De Gea?

De Gea is our best player. If we lose him we have to spend big on a top drawer replacement. The idea of Valdes as our #1 reminds me of when Ferguson tried to replace Schmeichel with Bosnich on a free.

Except for Valdes being one of the most decularated keepers ever.

Hmm.

Sergio Romero will be free in the summer.

We are looking for a De Gea replacement, not a Lindegaard replacement.

If De Gea leaves us, we should also really wait till 2016 and lose him on a free, would help us much more and we don't need 20 million euros or a similiar fee.

Fully agree with this! and who knows he might change his mind in that season.

LCG has played De Gea in every single match so far. He must love the kid.

Yeah for me it's really a no-brainer. 20 million euros are of course not nothing, but it really isn't much for us either.

On the other side I can see a lot positive things if we keep De Gea.

a) Like you said, he could still change his mind. It's of course not very likely. But imagine us playing a fantastic season next year, running away with the league, playing a good role in the CL and Real going bananas and having a bad season. Would he still consider a move? Who knows. Footballers are frickle natures, they are unhappy and want out in June and in September they are happy and United is the best place to be. With Rooney we have a very good example in our current team.

b) De Gea is fantastic and could be the difference between winning a title/qualifying for CL or who knows what we will achieve next year. We have already a busy summer window with 3,4 signings most likely, are we really want to look for a new goalkeeper too? Is Valdes up for it? It's unnecessary, we made a decent job in the last window and now we need to build on this seasons work. It's unnecessary to get rid of Di Maria and also to sell De Gea, we have already holes in our team that we need to fill, no need to open up more in positions where we have quality players right now. We also want to return to the top of europe, selling your best player at the first possible moment is imo the wrong sign for other players in our team, make it as difficult as possible for Real and make them clear that they can't get any player from us when they want and that we don't need their money.

c) We have the time on our side. Next year (I am talking about 2016 summer window) if things went right in summer window 2015 and the PL 2015/16 we will not add much more to our squad and should have a less busy window and can concentrate on a big player who wants us to leave. We then have also the whole 2015/16 season time to look for a proper replacement and a goalkeeper for the next few years, we also have enough time to rotate a little bit and give Valdes more games, so we can see if he is suited to the PL and how good he is after his injury. That sounds also much better for me and is less a risk than playing Valdes as number 1 or making a knee-jerk signing for the next best goalkeeper, who is available this summer.

Useful if we go back to zombie football.

I was taking the piss.

I don't think he will leave us this summer, even if he does, we have Valdés. I'm not too worried.

Its a no brainer really. Would rather lose him on a free one year later. There is every chance we may convince him to renew and Real Madrid might lost their patience and get another keeper. I don't know why they aren't using Navas. He made the most outrageous saves in La Liga last season and was the best keeper in the World Cup. He's been nothing short of sensational. He deserves to be the heir to Casillas' throne. Such a waste of talent.

De Gea replacement?? WTF? It's all conjecture until we hear from him or his agent that he wont sign a new contract. Until that point he's our player so surely thinking of a replacement is pointless.

If we wait until De Gea decides wether to not sign a new contract or not, we might end up with no good solution at all. There has to be a plan B in case that De Gea decides to try his luck elsewhere.

If De Gea does leave, we should try to get Ter Stegen in.

I have seen this guy play twice and in both games he has made really really bad errors. Against England U21s last night he made a number of hospital passes to our players.

Granted that he seems to be a world class shot stopper already but there has to be serious question marks over his composure and decision making at this point.

Ter Stegen just signed for Barca and will be their long-term keeper, doesn't make much sense. Leno is a better replacement, but not for us, Real will sign him and we will keep Dave.

I'll be accused of bias, but Matt Ryan at club Brugge in Belgium might be an outside bet. He's young -23 this year, good shot stopper, good with his feet and can only get better. Best goalkeeper at the Asian Cup earlier this year.

Petr Cech is the top choice for me.

He's a world class keeper who's settled in England and who excels in the PL.

He's still 3 years younger than VDS was when we signed him, and he's got a point to prove.

He's the logical choice.

Papers saying Lloris might be looking for a way out of Spurs, there you have it top replacement for De Gea should he leave.

The money it would take Spurs to sell Lloris would probably be more than we'd sell DDG for. Levy is a bastard.

At least having Valdes means we're not in a totally desperate position. We could easily sign a talented youngster and use Valdes as #1 for now.

If true, I hate that we are no better than Spurs when it comes to Real Madrid. I would rather we just kept him for the next year, said feck you to Madrid and take the year to find his natural successor.

Valdes will be our #1 next season. Its pretty obvious really.

Logically speaking, there's absolutely no way he was going to come to United to sit on the bench for the next two years, wasting away the last few 'peak' years he has left.

Ugh, Valdes is not the answer. Lloris, Lopes, Leno, plenty of good, agile young keepers with strong all round games that we could get, or a vet like Cech would be an option.

I'm hoping with a new RB and CB we could get away playing an half decent keeper next year .
De geas missis works in Madrid so you can't blame him really although she could always pack in an live off big daves million a month .
If he does go then it's cech for me till someone decent becomes available . Valdes will probably get the nod though and fair play to that seeing his bin sat on his arse for 12 months waiting his chance . I wouldn't be chuckin 30 million at lloris put it that way

Leno is better than him right now so it would be the other way round.
Yea but Leno might need a season when the pressure is off him like when Lindegaard were playing a lot of times instead of De Gea in DDG's first season.

If DDG leaves I'd like us to go for Lloris, i don't really care what Spurs charge us as the value of a good goalkeeper has been displayed numerous times for us this season with DDG. Cech would be a great option as well but would Chelsea sell to us again?

Valdes is a great option to have as well, as sad as it would be to see De Gea leave we really wouldn't be in desperate trouble if he did.
