Cillessen is a good keeper, as it is Lloris.

Don't want Valdez or even Cech. Begovic shouldn't even be considered.

We're not signing Lloris, he's still got 4 years left on his contract and I don't think anyone would agree with the fee Levy would demand for him.

I suspect because we have major issues across the pitch our immediate De Gea replacement will be Valdes

I hate the thought of us losing De Gea but I'd be doubly pissed if Valdes was the replacement.

I've watched Lyon quite a bit this season and Antony Lopes has been impressive, he could be a good choice if we have to go this depressing route.

I'm not being a smartarse, but I reckon you're the first person I've ever been aware of that rates Cillessen. He looked really watery to me in the WC.

To be fair, he gives the impression that he isn't that good (probably because of his body structure) but he does his job well and was very good for Holland. From a little I have seen on Eredivisie, he looks quite impressive. Then obviously is his relation with LVG.

He's quite young, and can improve even further. Won't ever become as good as De Gea, but then is quite difficult to find someone who is/will be as good. Still, I think that he could do a decent job for a decade or so.

Another interesting one is Leno (Neverkusen keeper). Seems quite a good keeper despite being only 23. Hopefully Madrud signs him.

Anyway my first choice - assuming that De Gea becomes a twat - is undoubtedly Lloris.

He looks a good shot stopper to me and his kicking is fine, but players get away with a lot more in the box in England so he would be a worry on corners especially to me.

No clue. Other than Cech, nobody really stands out for me.
Levy wouldn't sell Lloris this summer, if that was when we needed him.

I think it'll end up being someone like Krul. PL ready and LVG has a good knowledge of him. I can't see a single keeper that's even close to being as good as DDG, that we could buy for even the same amount as we'll get for DDG now we've run his contract down. We'll either spend big or overspend on a second tier player like Krul. It'll be the latter, IMO.

There's no way LVG will buy Krul, he didn't even have him as his Dutch #1.

Cech would be the obvious choice, a complete no-brainer. Krul would be an utterly idiotic choice.

Doesn't LvG get odd notions about goalkeepers? I seem to remember his time at Bayern came to an end partly because of his insistence that he really, really, really didn't want them to sign Neuer! So perhaps if we do have to replace DDG this summer, we don't leave it all up to him!

Why do people keep bringing up Valdes trophy haul? He played in a team that had 85% possession every game and hardly ever had to bail his team out. Cech is a way better goalkeeper in nearly every aspect. If he ends up at Liverpool or anywhere else in the prem then we are going to look like fools next season (Assuming De Gea leaves).

Well he also played with a crap defense in front of him. And during those post Pep years he needed to bail out that team plenty.

Haha good one. Puyol, Pique and Alves all were brilliant during that period, I have no idea why you called them "crap".

This is exactly the season why our squad isn't the the best or even top 3 in world football any more. Year on year we keep downgrading key positions in our squad and by replacing De Gea with Valdes is doing it once again. Let's look at our CL winning team from 2008 and see how many players we've actually adequately replaced.

--------------------------Van Der Sar-----------------------------
-----Brown----------Ferdinand----Vidic----------Evra-------------
--Hargreaves-------Scholes----Carrick-------Ronaldo-------------
-----------------------Tevez------Rooney----------------------------

The ones I've highlighted are the only players we have replaced with similar quality, De Gea for VDS, RVP for Tevez while Carrick and Rooney are still here.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that we need to stop fecking making our team worse every year, it's getting incredibly annoying and it seems like we are doing it on purpose. Okay we can't do anything about De Gea any more and he's holding the cards, but what we can do is at least bring in a world class player to replace him.

If DDG leaves,we might end up with only 1 GK in Valdes,Linde will leave too i guess,we have that kid coming in but thats about it.

Di Maria is better than Hargreaves as a winger/wide CM and alternate universe healthy Rafael is better than Brown, but agreed on the rest.

It's amazing that Carrick was comfortably the worst of those other 9 players (slight shout for that year Tevez kept missing everything but otherwise did very well) and he was pretty damn good back then and for years afterwards.

Fraser Forster isn't an option for people? English, very solid.
From De Gea to Forster? I think by now it's obvious that every top team needs a top top keeper. If De Gea leaves, I hope that Valdes is either back to his very best or we try to get a top keeper

Begovic is miles better than Cillessen

If that is the case I am extremely surprised he is playing at Stoke. Of all the people talking about Cillessen I wonder how many have seen a lot of his performances this season.

Not a great argument really - if Cillessen is so good, why is he still in the Eredivisie? Begovic has long been regarded as one of the best keepers in the Prem (Think a lot would agree 'Pool should have gone for him over Mignolet). True I've seen more of Begovic, but I've seen Ajax 2 or 3 times this season (where he looks fine, nothing more) and I don't get how people were saying he was great in the WC (he wasn't... always looked a bit shaky, and couldn't be trusted to be in net for a penalty shootout!)

Well I have not seen Begovic much this season, so I cannot comment on him, and in my previous post I did not. I just asked if he is miles better than Cillessen why he is playing at Stoke because I do rate Cillessen. I am not saying he is better, because simply I do not know. What I do know is that for me Cillessen is a really reliable and good GK, the best Ajax have had in many years. It isn't a surprise that he was LvG first GK after 1,5 season of first team football. I could see Cillessen become our keeper in the future though I rekon that for short term the likes of Valdes or Czech may be better.

The only comparable keepers we could buy are Courtois and Neuer - neither of which are realistic, so we are going to get a downgrade if De Gea leaves.
Cech would do a decent job for the next 3-4 years whilst we look for the next De Gea. No brainer decision imo.
Lloris is going to be hugely expensive and I don't think he's that much better than Cech anyway. Begovic is solid enough, but a grade below. Only question is would Mourinho sell to us? Had no issues shipping Mata off when he wasn't wanted, so perhaps it wouldn't be an issue.
I've never rated Valdes personally. I'm sure he could fill in if needed due to injury, but wouldn't want him as #1

Depends how much he costs anything 20+m for a keeper who is 33 in the summer and could be rubbish if played every week and on the downward curve (hidden by regular lack of action).......its a tuff call.

Only realistic option who isn’t a big downgrade is Cech, I imagine he would be for sale but probably wouldn’t be cheap. Don’t rate Valdes either, making him our number one would be a huge mistake, he has good distribution and is a good shots topper but he is error prone, erratic when coming off his line, not great from crosses and pretty small for a goalkeeper.

Think playing for Barca suited him but the Premier League won’t and I doubt he would last a season as our number one, I would also be very concerned about how the knee injury has affected him.

Valdes should be given a chance. Then buy an up and coming goalkeeper with plenty of potential as a backup.
