Horn is the future German number one IMO. Only 22 now, 6'4, is brave and very acrobatic even for his size. Im surprised we haven't been linked with him tbh. We haven't even been linked to Leno but his link to Real Madrid have pushed many fans to name him as a possible buy for United. I honestly didn't hear too many English/PL fans talk about him specifically before that.

They are both talented and I think that under the right tutelage they both can become very special. At the moment Leno is more experienced, he has been tested at a higher level but I have no doubts that Horn can confirm is potential.

Sergio Romero is free, should we ?
As second keeper?

If we are going to sign someone as first choice, then he should be better than Valdez. Romero isn't.

Am I the only one in this forum he rates Cillessen very highly?

Yeah as second keeper.

I think the club knew a long time ago that there was a high chance of DDG leaving and signing Valdes pretty much confirmed that view for me, Valdes is not the calibre of keeper that would be happy to sit on the bench playing the odd game in the league cup, i think he will be our no.1 this season and we will sign another younger keeper as an understudy.

Could be that we want that young Barcelona goalkeeper for that role.

How do Atletico keep producing quality goalies?Though I don't know how good this Oblak is.

Is Oblak good?

The young goalie i'd love to see us sign is Timo Horn of Cologne but we're not even linked to him. Beast of a goalie everytime i've seen him. 22, very agile, good in the year and is physically imposing at 6'4

I still think/hope De Gea stays. There's a rumor (albeit) from Goal that Madrid have ended their pursuit for him and will sign Casilla from Espanyol.

Another Atletico goal keeper. He's young, looked solid in the CL when I watched him but is he better than the other possible candidates? He's 6'1, would like us to sign a taller goalie.

It depends who the other candidates are. I'd put him ahead of Cillisen as I think he has more presence and commands his area with more authority. I wouldn't rate him as high as Leno but I know you don't think as much of him.

They didn't. He joined from Benfica last year. He's very good, but not even Slovenia's number one which is Handanovic.

He's better than Leno tbh.

This Oblak kid has been dodgy every single time I saw him, then he goes and has a great game vs Madrid and everybody thinks he is the second coming... The truth is that he is light years behind what DDG and Courtois were at his age. Maybe he is a late bloomer, but do we really want to take the chance?

Same shit with Leno, nobody talked abut him 6 months ago, then he goes on and has a good game vs Madrid and everybody thinks he is the next Neuer... I must admit, I haven's seen him play much, so I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure that's the case with most of the caftards that rate him very highly.

I don't know who can we get, tho. I like Lloris personally, but I am not convinced he is the kind of GK we need, he seems more like a GK that gets confidence from the saves he makes, not the kind that can stay 90 min without doing anything and them pull a top save out of his ass. Also, he looks like he didn't improve much since he signed for Spurs, maybe he's not that ambitious?

feck knows, it's always a pain in the ass to replace Goalkeepers, especially for us, hopefully we do better this time and have someone lined up.

Oblak's "only" 186 but I know nothing about him.

Lloris = proven shotstopper, wouldn't be big downgrade on DDG, after Cech went to Arsenal I'd be in for big Hugo or don't sell Dave and wait another year for another goalkeeper to emerge. Sam Johnstone could be ready next year, I also think he is ready to make no2 this year but he should be playing first team football..

just a recap of what Lloris can do

Perhaps we could hijack Chelsea's Begovic deal?

Always liked him, quite a steady keeper.

Bundesliga has some very good young goal keepers that aren't really talked about because they don't play for Bayern and are in a constant Neur shadow

Manchester United have opened talks with Atletico Madrid to sign goalkeeper Jan Oblak, according to reports.

United are on the lookout for a top class goalie with David De Gea edging closer to joining Real Madrid.

A host of names have been linked in recent weeks, but Atletico’s Oblak appears to be their choice, with AS reporting that talks are now underway over a transfer.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an incredible debut season in La Liga last term following his move from Benfica.

Atletico will only do business if United pay Oblak’s release clause which is set at £32.3million.

Just think. We go get Oblak. De Gea ends up staying with us and is the back up for Oblak.

That is the realistic scenario if Real does not play ball and treat us fairly. Perhaps us being in for Ramos is just to get a top price for De Gea...which I think is the reality. I think we will end up with Otomendi personally.

Neither De Gea or Real want this not to go through.

Woody will get a good price for De Gea and we will move on.

How would you rate Rui Patricio and Anthony Lopes as possible replacements for DDG? @Sly

Don´t think so. They are both very good goalkeepers but they are somewhat inconsistent and for example in Rui Patrício´s case he can be incredible and look world class (like against Chelsea) but he has also looked error prone in pressure moments (some performances against Benfica and in our national team). United needs a more consistent goalkeeper than these two. I don´t rate Oblak as being good enough for United either tbf. United is at the very top. Oblak is good for a club Atlético level. I think he would be smart to stay there.

tbf De Gea..his first season did not look the part either. I'm not saying Oblak is already as good as De Gea is now....but he is young and he will have the best coaching and facilities at United. If we are seriously in for Oblak rather than a proven keeper at the Premiership level, then van Gaal and his staff have seen something in this lad.

In any case, I have always felt when De Gea leaves we will be fine. We are strengthening in the right areas. Defence and midfield especially.

DDG was great for Atletico.

As an Atletico watcher I can confirm that Oblak is nowhere near the potential De Gea or Courtois had. He is a good keeper but isn't good enough for the pressures of being United number 1. He is prone to lapses and that would get him slaughtered here.

For this i have a question, how close is Schweinsteiger to Neuer? :D Oblak also struggled when he arrived to Benfica and was loaned to Leiria if i´m not mistaken. When he returned he took a while to replace Artur (who is crap btw) and just got a chance when he got injured. Don´t get me wrong, Oblak is a good goalkeeper i´m just not certain if he has reached his "ceiling" or still has potencial to evolve and reach world class status. He has been impressive in some ocasions but also been dodgy in others. But tbf top keepers have also suffered from this due to form and specific nature of the position. I think United should aim for the very best but who knows perhaps he is worth the gamble like De Gea was. But i´d rate De Gea higher before he joined United compared to Oblak.

Agree with this.
