If Cillessen is our GK next season, LvG and Frans Hoek can do one.

So what if he can pass the ball to his defender, he looks like a teenager and could fall over in a gust of wind. This guy looks so unbelievably unsuited to the physicality of the PL it's unreal.

I'd rather have a GK that can command his area and communicate and lead his defenders than some flimsy GK that can pass all day long.

To go from VDS and DDG to this wimp would be sickening. I don't even think bulking him up will make enough of a difference.

We need this Ruffier that @JPRouve was speaking of, looks as if he weigh's two Cillessen's. :D

Cillessen would be the type of signing that would see van Gaal questioned.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but bringing in Cillessen to replace de Gea would be a Nederlands signing too far imo.

Especially given that Cech is available right now.

Cech doesn't want to uproot his family from London. It won't be United's fault if we miss out on him.

Sorry to spoil the party lads, but the race is over - Liverpool have signed Adam Bogdan. Better luck next year.

Quotes? Genuinely asking, not being sarcastic.

I'd have thought the opportunity to become United's number 1 would be a dream offer for Cech right now.

And even if Cech wasn't available, surely we can do better than Cillessen?

I can't say I've seen much of Oblak, but every time I've seen him he was dodgy, I don't think he's anywhere near the level DDG and Courtois were at his age.

I don't know if our interest talk is true, but if it is no doubt we'll have to pay the release clause. I imagine that would be €30m at most, if the club thinks he's good enough that shouldn't be a problem.

How is Vanja Milinkovic doing on loan, any chance he's ready to be no.2 to Valdes?
go check out the Atletico - Real highlights in this season's Champions League.
I don't see this happening, but if De Gea does go, Oblak would kind of be like the "dream" signing, forgetting for a second about the fact that "the dream" would be De Gea staying.
He's young, got loads of potential, and to top it off he's Slovenian.

What's the story with this Oblak guy? I've heard he's highly rated, especially around the time he was joining Atletico, but it seems he didn't make that many appearances for them. Was this because of injury, or he couldn't win a place? Either way it doesn't fill me with confidence.

if I'm not mistaken he played cup games while Moya played in La Liga more or less.

Cech is off to Arsenal

Cillissen will not fit the physicality of the PL

Begovic can't pass and is not what LVG searches for in a GK

Valdes is too much of a liability for nr 1 GK

Lloris lacks mental strenght and is also too prone for making errors

Oblak is highly unproven and a bit of a question mark too many

Leaves us with Muslera, Leno and Ruffier

I'd prefer Muslera from that list

Edit: Sergio Asenjo from Villareal also looks like a very good goalkeeper what do people think about him ?

Except for Neuer and Courtois everyone is a step down. That isn't to say they can't improve though.

De Gea was a mess in his first season, but he improved, particularly his physicality.

That's really not how football works. Sideline a player and one of the top goalkeepers in the world because he is struggling with a decision about where to play next season?

Thankfully van Gaal will have more sense.
Really? You still actually believe he is struggling with a decision or he was ever actually torn to make a decision? From what I see, he used the "i am still thinking" argument to run down his contract and now he and Madrid have us bent over a barrel with our pants pulled down and all lubed up.

What a well reasoned argument, please, tell me more.

6 foot 7 man mountain but terrible at dealing with balls into his box and dominating his area, shocking kicking, never seen him hold a shot, just a you tube goalkeeper and many of the saves are ones he should make. Was at the Chelsea game last year for example. Many raved about his performance when in reality if he had conceded any of the shots he saved he should have been dropped.

I don't believe we are interested in muslera, ruffier or cillissen none of them are any good and would be big steps down from de gea and probably cost a lot of money as well. Cech should be number one target but he seems arsenal bound, I am pretty certain Valdes will get a season as number one and no replacement will come in until next summer.

I agree with the step down and the absence of interest, but none of them will cost more than 10m€-13m€.

Judging by United's dilemma, maybe can recall and sign O`Shea since S.A.F. says he is like a cat.

Rooney is apparently an excellent goalkeeper on the training ground.

If we want Oblak, why not swap him for DDG? Money wise it will be the same as selling DDG and buying Oblak, plus we will feck up those Real feckers.

Because DDG wants to go Real Madrid not Atletico Madrid

Yeah, isn't his move all about 'going home'?

You really believe that? He is moving because he thinks that it's the best thing to do professionally. Otherwise Aguero, Tevez, Evra, Vidic would have moved a long time ago.

Cech doesn't want to uproot his family from London. It won't be United's fault if we miss out on him.

If we make it known, the allure of Man Utd, may be too difficult for him to turn down.
To simply say, "he doesnt want to move out of London", is ridiculous.
World class players who are comfortable living in Spain/Italy/France, move to Manchester. For Cech to move from London to Manchester is no big deal.
If Man Utd want Cech, I think they can get him.

My own feeling is that Man Utd don't want to commit to anything, until it is absolutely known that DDG is leaving. Imagine if we sign Cech, then DDG stays, then we have to sell Cech to Arsenal, all within a few weeks.

It's for Arsenal not Milwall. If there is a choice between London and Manchester with Arsenal and United as options Arsenal have a huge advantage.

Yeah, isn't his move all about 'going home'?

Obviously I do not know the exact reasons why he wants to leave as I know as much as you guys, however I would be very surprised if he'd turn up at Atletico. Real Madrid wants him badly, professionally Real is most likely the more appealing move than Atletico (especially since he has played there half his life) and last but not least he'll get more money at Real. I guess he wants to go 'home', but his home is not Atletico anymore.

You're describing De Gea when United signed him. This is pure over reactionary crap

Cillessen is a good goalkeeper, he really is. If I'm not mistaken he was Ajax their best player this year. How much have you guys actually seen of him?

He doesn't fully fit van Gaal's profile though and he's already 26 but hasn't played much first team football. I don't think he's even an option, much like I think Cech isn't one either. He's a decent passer but nothing like Valdes or de Gea, goalkeeping wise he's prone to the odd blunder here and there too. He committed to Ajax last year when he won his spot and Vermeer got sold and already dismissed rumours of joining us too, Ajax aren't willing to sell either. No need to worry about this guy, but people who want Cech will be dissapointed.

You can easily say the same about Leno what you said about Oblak, unless we're getting into specifics over his weaknesses. Ruffier? Are we just pulling names out of a hat now . He's so good he's only played once for France. Muslera is a good shout. Asenjo is a good shot stopper and very athletic but haven't seen much of him

Read what I put at the bottom. I'm well aware of that, that's why I said bulking up won't help enough.

He's too small. Always will be. De Gea is taller and lankier, giving him a bigger reach. He had the tools, he just needed to be bulked up.

He's pretty much the same height as De Gea? Maybe a tiny bit smaller

Well at least they're using lube :nervous:
