Has long as its not valdes, that is all that matters, pending we get a good enough replacement. Cech fair enough if he wants to remain in london, he could have been a fantastic VDS type signing, oh well

Excellent - broker a deal with Atletico to trade DDG for Oblak, after all DDG wants to return to Madrid to live with his precious family so he can go back to Atletico, we get Oblak and Real can go feck themselves - everyone's happy :)

If he becomes a top class keeper, lets see if Real Madrid sign him, LOL. No matter how Real Madrid CF and the fans treat their employers, these idiots keep signing for them. Oh well some players love the abusive treatment, some call it a challenge, others call it a dream

Meanwhile, has David Ospina disappointed Arsenal so much that they have to find a new number 1 goalkeeper? Something just doesn't make sense in all of this talk of Arsenal wanting Cech. If I was Ospina, I would not be happy about all of that talk right after a solid first season following arrival in a new country.

I think Ospina was brought as a second choice with Szczesny meant to have kept his place. Wenger lost his patience after Southampton game and gave Ospina a chance, he has taken it but ultimately I think Wenger wants top quality goalkeeper which Ospina might be short of.

So, if reports are to be believed Cech will cost AFC, roughly £11M.
I guarantee that when we buy a GK of similar quality, we'll pay 3-4 times as much.
Personally, I think we should outbid AFC for Cech and hijack that move.
Cech is a great keeper, wont cost £40M and knows the EPL right off the bat.

Sometimes I think that when a player is being given a bargain price, our club says, "No...he is too cheap. We want to spend more money".
It makes no sense.

As much as I like DDG the club need to set some guidelines, keep him and let him remain on the fringes without involving him in the first team or playing any sort of football.

Players would be jumping at the chance to join us after that.

Yes they will.
As long as we can give them a chance to win trophies and earn big money, they will join.
Real Madrid treat their staff like dirt; yet top, in-demand staff, queue to join them. They even say that "its their dream to work/play for Real Madrid".

Seems players love the abuse

Oblak would be a great addition if we can get our hand on him. With De Gea at RM, hopefully Real wont be after us in 5 years for Oblak, if we get him!!

Alternatively, hope we get this De Gea thing sorted out as we might just lose Cech (who I voted for and prefer) to Arsenal.

Alternatively we'll pay more for a young, good keeper who we can mould and develop into a great keeper. There won't be any top teams left needing a keeper so we should be safe with the next one.

Why's Anthony Lopes' name from Lyon not been flung about this forum that much? Isn't he supposed to be very highly rated?

Young, clearly talented and could be a good replacement for DDG - if not a second keeper for Valdes until he finds his feet a bit and Valdes starts going bad.

Anyone who's into French football have any further insight? @JPRouve?

If only we were safe with DDG, we were just unlucky we had one of the worlds best keepers collide with the current Spanish number 1 who plays for Real Madrid, who is ageing, who our keeper is has not even hit his prime, and his family is from Madrid. Not even his Atletico Madrid routes could help keep him from that mob

He improved in the last couple of years but he is mainly a shot stopper and he isn't suited to the PL. In France the best goalkeeper is in my opinion Ruffier who is actually suited to the PL, he is a very good shot stopper, is dominant in the box, a very strong character and very consistent.

Sounds exactly like De Gea when he first came then. One of the weakest but most agile keepers about! Who's to say we can't buff up Lopes and have him as good as De Gea in 2 years (even then he'll only be 26!)

He is short and have never been dominant in the box, there is far better candidates out there.

Edit: If we want to develop a young Keeper Areola is a better option.

Why is Leno not on the list?
Seems he's not on our radar, which I find even more shocking. He checks all that we need - good with the ball in his feet, great reflexes, good in the air and potentially he can be as good as De Gea.

Yeah I've seen Areola before, not bad and very tall. However not sure I could cope with having a keeper with the same name as yer nipple circle.

 I thought about that while writing his name, but honestly I would chose Ruffier, he is as good as Lloris.

It is a bit of a ridiculous poll because 3 likley candidates are missing with Oblak, Muslera and Cillissen

And I have not seen Bravo and Navas being linked with us.

According to AS. We want Jan Oblak. Very good keeper but would he leave sunny Madrid and stay here for the long term?

Would you choose Ruffier over Lloris?

Yes, in term of goalkeeping abilities they are very close but Ruffier is a lot stronger mentally, when Lloris makes a mistake he crumbles.

I like Lloris' style but I agree he's not robust enough, mentally and physically. Even De Gea learnt to put mistakes behind him after his shocking start.

Thinking about what I've seen and considering age, what we need and the way English football is played... surely Bernd Leno is a no brainer?

I'd be very confident going into the Season with Leno and Valdes as our goalkeepers.

Looking very likley now that Cech will go to Arsenal.

For feck sake I hope Van Gaal has a good replacement ligned up for De Gea, a keeper like Cech isn't available every fecking year !

I pray to the old gods and the new that we are not settling for Valdes as first choice goalkeeper. Disaster waiting to happen if we do that and not one that will be to fix easily.

Yeah, I voted 'other' with Leno in mind, he will need to catch the balls though, because like a lot of German goalkeepers he punches it a little bit to much.

DDG and Neuer both punched frequently in their early years and now have that almost trained out of them. Leno would please a lot of us on the Caf though I reckon.

Yeah, Ter Stegen for example improved a lot this season in that regard.

This Oblak rumour is one I would desperately like to believe. He is my number one choice to replace De Gea. However, I'm not getting my hopes up as I never thought he was available. Didn't he just sign a long term deal with Atleti?

What's the story with this Oblak guy? I've heard he's highly rated, especially around the time he was joining Atletico, but it seems he didn't make that many appearances for them. Was this because of injury, or he couldn't win a place? Either way it doesn't fill me with confidence.

Believe me, the times I've watched him he's been impressive. Of course he still has things to improve - he's only 22. But give him to our goalkeeping coach and he'll be awesome. In my humble opinion he's seems far more assured than De Gea. Also has better 'concentration levels'?? Don't know how to explain it, but if De Gea is having to not do too much in a game, his concentration levels can go 'walkabout' at times - not the worse thing. But one of the goalkeeper's challenges is to stay engaged for the whole 90 mins even if your team is dominating and you think there's not much threat.

He was rated very highly and Atletico broke the spanish transfer fee record for a keeper to get him. He didn't start well though as he made a mistake and Moya impressed, he also got injured. He got his chance again when Moya got injured and he's been solid ever since. He's pulled out great saves consistently and always looks assured in goal. Also is very good in the air, typical Atletico keeper.

Thanks guys. As I said, he's a keeper I've heard to be highly rated so the lack of appearances for Atletico this season were surprising considering he was brought in as Courtois' replacement. Makes sense laid out like that.

There is a GK called Areola? Seriously? The newspapers would have a field day with his name, if he works in the EPL. :D
I cant believe that we arent even competing for Cech's signature. We need a good/experienced GK!!!
