There have been pretty solid quotes in the media from his agent stating that roman has promised him he can go where he wants if he is no longer first choice at Chelsea in recognition of service, also a quote from Jose that the matter was out of his hands.

If the player wants to go to United or Arsenal then he will

Cech would be a good signing, but where does it leave valdes?

there was talk when valdes signed that he needed a club to allow him to get compensation from Monaco. I wonder how true that is and whether it indicates his reason for being happy as an understudy.

Looking at the ages of top goalkeepers of the last 15 years there's been a shift towards the best establishing themselves as early as 18. Buffon and Casillas being the start of it.

I wonder if van der sar is an exception and a keepers peak is 24-30.

obviously there will be exceptions, but my feeling would be to either get a guy about to hit world class at age 24 or get a guy at 18 who clearly has the ability.

I remember buffons first game on channel 4, you could tell he was class straight away. is scuffet of the same level?

I'm hearing all these navas rumours and I didn't know which thread to post in .
Anybody know if he would cope with crosses as ddg struggled in his first season and valdes looked far from convincing yesterday ???

In that case I'd imagine he choose Arsenal, since it would avoid his family having to uproot.

Valdes looked unconvincing yesterday so I hope he is not the planned replacement if Dave goes.

If you had known De Gea would leave this summer, would you rather sold him a year sooner to Barcelona and signed ter Stegen as his replacement?

Valdes pretty much always looks unconvincing.

No. I don't think ter Stegen is that special, though he is very good.

Valdes has aged better than Casillas and was absolutely class for Barcelona before his knee injury.

One game man. Valdes is quality. He might not be the one for us going forward but you can't dismiss a keeper of his quality after just one game. His first start and only his second competitive match in almost a year.

What about our ex academy player Ron-Robert Zieler? He's part of the German national team set up now and kept a clean sheet against Spain on his NT debut last November. I don't watch Hannover but from these clips he looks like a good shot stopper and sweeper to boot.

I think every single keeper in the under 21s squad (Leno, Karius, Horn, ter Stegen) is better than him and IMO Fährmann is better as well. Weidenfeller and Podolski get still called up and they aren't exactly deserving of it either.

Valdes #1 and Begovic #2 would satisfy me.

Think Asmir has a good attitude, a great range of skills as generally being very good across the board, homegrown (?), prem experience and would be more tolerant to life as a number 2 at a big club.

Sure I read somewhere that he is available for under £10m due to contract expiration issues too.

Don't get me wrong, alternatives discussed above would excite me more but just looking at other realistic options that haven't been discussed much already.

Cech
Valdes
Lloris (considering we'd have to possibly pay more for him then we get for DDG, no thanks!)

...in that order.

Heard a lot of good things about Leno, but not seen him enough.

F*ck him & Real - make him see out the rest of his contract. Both parties look to have been colluding with each other for some time now; when a new deal from us was on the table way last year..

We owe DDG feck all - he owes us for makin him into the keeper he is - Eric Steele more importantly!

I think Valdes would do for next season IF we get some good defenders in. This season we simply gave opposition teams way too many chances, cut down them chances and a lesser goalkeeper would do for next season and give us time to search out a long term target.

Regarding Cech, didn't he struggle in a sweeper role under Villas Boas? Given what van Gaal wants from his keepers, don't think we're in for Cech.

I won't be too worried with Valdes though. Yeah, he's dodgy in the air but it's not like we're going to play the likes of Stoke and West Brom every week.

What's the point? If he wants to go to Real, let him go. He's done fantastic for us in his short time here and hasn't behaved badly or anything. You don't know the ins and outs of our contract negotiations so I wouldn't use that as a stick to beat him with. It doesn't seem to be a money thing, so no point keeping a player who really wants to play and live elsewhere.

Agreed, letting him and Real take a piss on us for €25M so he can feck off to Madrid with his crumpet while we install Barca's 3rd string cast-off who is 33 and can't catch cold let alone a cross is not what we should be doing.

I am not fan of Valdes but it was him who decided to leave Barca for another challenge.

We can't be messing around bedding in a GK this season. Having a PL experienced player would help massively. We lack leadership badly in defense. He'd communicate a hell of a lot more than De Gea does. He's ideal.

I think we have to go for Lloris. The very top tier, the likes of Courtois and Neuer, are obviously unavailable; Lloris is by far the best available choice as Cech seems past his best.

I shudder at the thought of Valdes as our number 1. No way should we allow that to happen.

I have serious doubts about Valdes; 33 years old, 6'0 tall and struggling with crosses is a Prem problem.

Not sure if Van Gaal has ever done this, but it could make some sense for us to sign a keeper and use Valdes in the CL and the other keeper in the league like Barca did with Bravo and Ter Stegen or Real Madrid did last year (or was it the year before?).

Even slightly past his best Cech is still better than Lloris. Whether or not he would be in the system you guys play is another thing.

I want Cech. Otherwise give Valdes a chance as number 1 and get a solid backup keeper just in case.

We'll overpay for that Dutch keeper from the world cup and compare him to Taibi within 6 months.

Valdes as number 1 and spend the De Gea dough on a top CB.

Considering that we are going to spend money bringing in a central defended regardless whether we retain de Gea or not, there is no need to have to use any money brought in by the selling of our current keeper on anything other than bringing in a new keeper to replace him. At least one better/more reliable than Valdes.

Lloris can do one. Over-rated and Spurs would rip us off.

Get Navas from Real Madrid in exchange, he'll be rotting on their bench anyway and he could be good here.

Czech republican. Check
Accepts cheques. Check
We should sign. Cech.

I don't mind Valdes as our number one choice next season as long as we have a solid number two behind him ready to give him competition and keep him on his toes. Begovic would be a great buy.
