It's obvious for me that it'll be Valdes.People are treating as if he's some pub keeper.Gonna take a very good GK to take his place. The likes of Sommer or Zieler won't.

How much would Leno cost? Would we get him for the amount we paid for De Gea?

Leno has appearantly a release clause of 18 Mil. € in his until 2018 running contract. That would also be a fair price for him in my eyes. Was not that much of a fan before this season, but he proved me wrong by making a huge step in his development this year. He could be a possible long term solution.

I agree, Valdes fits van Gaal's keeper profile. He said he brought him in as replacement for Lindegaard who didn't fit it. The keeper plays an important role in the build up from the back and must therefore be good at sweeping and passing, a traditional keeper like Cech would struggle. Holland's first choice keeper wasn't Cillessen, it was Kenneth Vermeer. He's exactly like Valdes, short and good with his feet. He ultimately didn't make the selection because he got benched at Ajax for Cillessen because he let in too many goals. Cillessen comes close as he's a very relaxed(?) guy, he doesn't panick and has decent footwork. He had that advantage over Krul, who's just a linekeeper and terrible with his feet. I don't think Cillessen is ready yet for a step up though.

It makes perfect sense to bring in a young talented goalkeeper, there are plenty around. Someone like Leno could settle in as 2nd choice under the experienced Valdes. If van Gaal does want an instant replacement Lloris would fit the profile, but he'd be very expensive so we better get something good for de Gea :(

Problem with Valdes everyone fails to mention, may just be the fact he's coming off a very serious knee injury at the age of 32-33?, not too dissimilar from Falcao, and obviously we've seen first hand the potential difference it could make to a players performance level.
If we just signed Valdes circa 2011(ish) then yea, I would be far more comfortable automatically having him replace DDG next season.

Hopefully LvG realizes that his profile and this league are not compatible at times and the league will win. It doesn't matter how tidy Valdes might be with his feet or how much sweeping up he can do, he's garbage on crosses and physicality and will cost us time and again.

I think the most likely scenario would be Valdes since he fits the type of keeper van Gaal likes, though I think someone like Lloris could be quality for us and be a great long-term option.

And has anyone mentioned Oblak? He seems to be a solid up-and-coming young keeper.

Lloris like De Gea is pretty quick off his line and suits our high line, not sure his kicking/throwing is anywhere near De Gea though.

Cech ticks all the boxes really, excellent keeper, comes with experience and winning mentality, mourinho says he's a fantastic character in the dressing room. It's a no brainer for me if he's available.

Would Cech be an excellent replacement for De Gea for the football that Van Gaal wants to play? Refresh my memory here, but didn't his worst spell come under Villas-Boas, when he was asked to play behind a high line and be a ball playing keeper?

The only boxes Cech doesn't tick are those for ball playing ability and sweeping. Cech is also terribly one footed (his a leftie at that). I'd take him at the club though, he's world class. His agent is open to a move to United, according to M.E.N.

Cech, Loris and Leno should all be on the market this summer, when DDG leaves we actually have solid, gettable targets.
It wouldn't be the end of the world like some folks here are making it out to be.

If players were swapped more I'd let DDG go to RM for Bale and ADM can go to PSG for Verratti. That would leave us with a hell of a team.

Any thoughts on Sirigu? Seems to have dipped a bit in form, but if Cech goes back to France to be PSG's #1, he'd be available. 28, lots of CL experience now.

If we can't get Cech than I would want us to push hard for Leno.

Sirigu isn't good enough in my opinion.

Sirigu would get trounced in the PL, not good enough at all.

Signing Cech will give us time to plan for the future and find the right goalkeeper. He has at least 3 or 4 at the top.

Cech for me would be a great signing. Top draw keeper and can go on and play for 4-5 years.

He could even play longer than that depending on how long he wants to play. GK is really position where players can still be top drawer at the end of their thirties.

He'd be our new VDS

A bit unrelated but madrid has told Casillas he will still be gk at the club next season.

Very much enjoying these Cech links, he would be great for us for a good couple of seasons or more. He could do very well here like van de Sar did towards the end of his career. It would obviously be the best outcome to convince De Gea to stay here for longer but replacing him with a player of Cechs experience and ability will certainly soften the blow. Go get him Woody!

Have you a source for this? That's got to be a game changer if true?

Source is cadena ser in Spain, though now it's widespread.

I don't think it means much for De Gea signing. Supposedly madrid wants Iker gone but don't want to pay the rest of his contract, and Iker wants to leave but wants to be paid the rest of his contract, so it's all posturing and part of the 'negotiations'.

I've changed my mind on Lloris either give Valdes a go or make a move for Cech and hope he can have that VDS like influence

Never heard of Bernd Leno until today, but he's my choice. Never seen him play.

Cech is my choice. He was quality in the last few seasons before Courtois took over. Knows the PL inside out and a great experienced head would do wonders for our defense. Lloris is quality but he needs to get out of that shithole asap. Sure he's been guilty at times but I'm not gonna blame him much when clowns like Villas-Bois manage the team and place a CB duo of Capoue and Dawson 30 yards in front of goal.

We are fecked. 25m  We could get Lloris for 35m and Krul for 5m or whatever. Even Leno would be cheaper.

On top of that he is shite.

Boaz Myhill is superb everytime ive seen him play this season, kept us out and Chelsea... or accept a £20mill+ offer and Casillas coming the other way.

If Cech wants to stay in London I hope we are all over Leno, we are fecked if we end up with some of the mares being mentioned lately.

Was thinking this but did not want to say it loud. He looks fit, he is agile. LVG knows best

I know feck all about what keepers are available around Europe, so am googling every name bandied about on here, it would be nice to get somebody with a physical presence though,

De Gea is built like a shoe lace, and as good a shot stopper as he has been, and as many points as he has saved us, he has also cost us lots of goals over the time he has been here because he is unable or unwilling to challenge for the ball at corners and crosses.

Not ecstatic about his leaving but will be glad to see that rectified (and won't miss the SS hairdo), so please whoever we get (and I am happy with Valdes for a season or two if the right keeper isn't available) please get somebody 7' + with hands like dinner plates, would also be nice to get somebody with a bit of attitude, I miss the days when Schmeichel would tear shreds out of our defence and scare the be-Jesus out of the opposition.

People also seem to forget how much convincing SAF and co. seemingly had to do to get De Gea to leave Spain in the first place, it is hardly a surprise that he now wants to leave when the opportunity arises, should have tied him into a contract renewal for the resale price!

Unless we are not going to give Vladesa chance, than it has to be Cech, still in the top 10 best keepers in the world. He was De Gea's equal or even better before his injury, has never quite reached the early standards he set.

Boaz Myhill?

Boaz fucking Myhill?

Have a word...

You have to question his parents as well...they have a baby...a big bundle of joy...they look down at his chubby face, little fingers, and think "I know, lets call him Boaz"...

Fucking Boaz...

Has to be Cech.

What sort of price tag do we anticipate for him?

With his age, and being second choice, I would think we could get him for rightly what we get in for De Gea.

Wouldn't be that much of an impact/loss over the next few seasons if that happens.
