I really hope we give Johnstone a chance.

VV should be considered surely. I think we need to see how he copes with the physicality of PL before making a decision.

Cech or bust for me.

I'd love to get another promising youngster like we did with De Gea, but we're only now getting back on track and looking at the UCL again - we need a proven safe pair of hands.

He could be a bit like Van der Sar was for us, 'keepers don't age as badly as other players and at 32 Cech is already younger than VDS was when he came here. It would give us time to sort out a long term DDG replacement.

No, we still don't know know, but reading this today made me very pessimistic.

How's Valdes done for the reserves? I bloody hope we're not replacing DDG with fecking Lloris.

Average as feck with his shot stopping in what i've seen.
I don't see whats so bad about Lloris either, but we'll move on.

Don't mind either Cech or Valdes. One already at the club and the other would surely leaving his current club. Cech would be ideal, but I think some people selling Valdes short here.

That's right. For me, the only guy who would allow to heal that wound a little quicker through his arrival is Cech. If he somehow holds up his career up to where VDS took it until age 40, that would be great.

I thought of Bayer's Bernd Leno, but I think it would be too early to risk a move with our aspirations.

edit: I forgot to mention that I don't put too much hope into Valdes. At 6'0", it would be suicidal to have him as our starter in the PL. We saw similar problems (short height, limited reach, etc.) with Barthez in the past.

Bring them both in. Get a good four years out of Cech while introducing Leno slowly and responsibly rather than the baptism of fire De Gea went through.

Leno would not want to be second fiddle and nor Valdes would want to be 3rd choice.

After De Gea, all possible replacements fall under the same category for me - not good enough. We WILL end up with a keeper of much inferior quality, and we should probably accept the fact that we would be starting from square one again. So instead of a stop-gap solution like Cech, I'd rather we went for a young potential keeper again, whom our coaching staff can improve. Bernd Leno looks ideal to me, with VV as a backup.

Cech can easily serve 4-6 years depending on his physical condition.Top keeper of the available lot,my doubt is would he come here?

Cech right now. Lets not take a gamble on and up and comer while we are still battling to get to back to the top here. Cech would give us 5 years at least, plenty of time to work on finding the next big thing, much like with DDG.

Hence why we need to strengthen other areas to compensate, particularly the defense and DM. We can't afford having the same roller coaster defense we've had in the past few seasons. Defenders must be top quality and they must be available for most of the games.

That Leno seems to be well regarded. We should go for him, plus with Neuer at Bayern then we wouldn't have to worry about him going back to Germany.

What about this young sociedad keeper? He was great on the weekend and I've heard he's had a good season.

In terms of established keepers, cech must be the easy option. Surely he doesn't want to rot behind courtious.

As others have said Cech is the one to go for. He is better than Lloris, probably would be a fair bit cheaper and he could buy us 3-4 years of time to look for a long term replacement. If an obvious option comes up in that time we can still go for them anyway. Plus he has seen it all and won pretty much everything you can win in club football so his experience could be priceless with us having such a young defence.

Leno? Can't really think of another keeper who'd be gettable and young that be worthy of a go.

Since Cech was dropped for Courtois he looks to have gained some kind god status. The overrating is ridiculous, he hasn't been that good for quite a few years now, there is no reason to pick him over Valdes.

We will see next year how good he actually is, no doubt Chelsea will find some idiots to pay 20M for him this summer and take him off their books.

We need either someone young that can be moulded to LVG's style, or someone with more experience that is already accustomed to it, Cech in neither of those things.

Completely with you on that one. I don't want him anywhere near United.

Cech was picked for PFA team of the season just last year. It's a myth that he hasn't been good for quite a few years.

The good thing regarding the Valdes situation is that we aren't signing him out of the blue, we know his level now that he has been with us for 6 months. Also I think with Keepers it must be easier to judge them based on training, with Valdes we also don't need to worry about big club issues which are very common with keepers

We are definitely signing a new goalkeeper. We not letting both Lindergaard ad DDG go without getting someone in. And Van Gaals comments suggested that.

Yes they certainly indicate we'll sign someone if he goes, but we dont know if he'll be a clear first choice keeper. If he isnt we'll have trouble

Clearly the next GK we sign will be a cultured one that's good with the ball at their feet. Cech and Handanovic do not fit that catagory.

It wouldn't surprise me if we start the season with Valdes and then look for a replacement further in the future, somebody we definitely want. I don't feel happy with spunking 20-30M on Lloris.

Not many people seem to think that we already have the replacement on our books - Victor Valdes. Why?

Begovic would be a great number 2 for us and rumoured to be available for just £8m.

Have you actually seen him play since Barcelona?
