The sad thing is that for the keeper coming in this would be like the manager replacing SAF scenario , you don't want to be the guy replacing DDG but rather replace the guy who replaces DDG. Whoever comes in will be 100% a downgrade and will have to deal with constant comparisons with DDG :(

Sign a German, he won't have any problem with that.

Valdes is here already, so should be looking for the next DDG/Courtouis/Oblak/Leno as his understudy. If the back 4 is sorted, GK wouldn't need to work extra hard, hopefully. Having said that, haven't seen Valdes playing in the league yet and we don't know how he will fare against the likes of Huth during crosses and corners.

I said it earlier as well that if Leno turns out to be any good then the German Real Madrid will go for him as soon as Neuer has a dip , once bitten twice shy

We are talking about Goalkeepers there is no next Leno or Oblak, they are both at the right age to be purchased.

Has anyone been following Butland's development?

I haven't bothered, but I remember him being touted in FIFA 13 as the next big thing.

Can't get in the Stoke team ahead of Begovic.

Cech or Lloris for me. Great that Van Gaal said we got scouts looking rather than Wenger comment saying I got three great goalkeepers. Shows we will get another goalkeeper.

Any young keepers worth a gander at?

No point to be honest. Sign Cech, and then sign the best available once he's done.

Cech isn't ideal for us, with our high line we need someone who has a little bit of speed.

Cech would be awesome, but there is not a chance in hell the conniving Mourinho will let this happen; and Levy will take us to the cleaners if we even take a glance at Lloris. Those are the only two viable options I see for us at the moment.

Why? He sold us Mata. He may not have rated Mata as much the previous managers did, but it's not like Cech is going to get a chance ever. He will have to agree to sell Cech to one of the big clubs, which I think he will. In fact I don't even think he would mind selling Cech to Arsenal.

Exactly.

LVG's one of the few Jose can call a friend. Would probably take one meeting over glass of wine.

Mourinho would never sell Cech to Wenger. Van Gaal is a different story.

I don't think Cech would be motivated enough to give United his best...I just feel he needs another kind of challenge. Its just a feeling.

I think Mourinho has already ruled out Cech moving to another PL side here. He's probably going to move to PSG or a similar European club.

The reason why Mourinho sold Mata to us was based on a completely different reasoning. I don't think he saw us as a threat that season and he'd already played us twice, whilst we were yet to play the rest of the 'top four'. And I don't think he ever rated Mata that highly due to his lack of defensive contribution anyway.

I would buy a young goalkeeper and give Valdés a chance, he is very good with the feet .If United wants to play possession football he can help.

That's a good point too. What if he's still emotionally bound to Chelsea after 10 years of service... It's a real probability.

Of course he would.

He'd want to prove to Chelsea that they were wrong letting him go.

Thankfully LvG latest comments suggest we aren't going to be daft enough to risk a season on Valdes.

Maybe im wrong, but this is the feeling I get. Cech was the undisputed number one at Chelsea for so long and he basically always had Terry and a solid defence in front of him.

I feel he'll see any other PL team as a drop down and he might just go through the motions for a while. Maybe im wrong here but he also seems to have lost the hunger he once had years back. He's still a good keeper though.

Cech, Lloris or Leno and as long as massively improve the defence then it will be more than fine.

And of course Cech will be motivated, he will want to prove to everyone he is better than Courtios and will want the league from Chelsea, no doubt about that.

If De Gea goes, which looks all but certain now, then I think we should bring in a young keeper just as before.

We might not have gotten the longevity we expected first time round but it's still the best way of doing this imo.

I think there's absolutely zero chance we sell Cech to Arsenal. We'd keep him before doing that.

Like I said in another thread, letting you guys have Cech isn't strengthening you. Arsenal on the other hand would be getting a massive upgrade. José hates Wenger and wouldn't give him that kind of gift.

Valdes for me, I'm surprised he's not played a single minute for the first team to be honest.

He's still one of many options. If he won't have the desire then he'll probably say 'no' and then on to the next one but still... Premiership proven in fullest meaning of the word.

The Sociedad keeper is supposedly highly rated. Anybody know anything of him?

I think we should go with experience, but i'd welcome a good young GK. We have some awesome prospects in our ranks like Johnstone, Joel Castro Pereira and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic

Valdes/Lindegaard can rotate while Johnstone stays out on loan with the idea he can come back in a other year or so and take over. If not, fall back on one of the two above while looking for another.

Lindegaard's contract is up this summer I think...

I would go for Valdes, sign an experience GK or just keep Lindegaard or Amos as his back up and send Johnstone out on loan again until we feel he's ready (or sell him if we think he's not up to the standard). Not gonna happen though.

Not better than Sam Johnstone.I've watched both of them since they're 16-17.
