Given his age and recent injuries we don't know that for certain....Too big a risk to take imo.

Chances are he'd improve it in some areas, he has year of experience at the top and is probably a lot better organising his defence (I'm guessing), but he is a brilliant shot stopper, and the best sweeper keeper in the game today. It's his arial ability I'm not a fan of, but surely DDG is proof that coming from the Primera to EPL, it can be taught, he was awful in the air and now is very confident.

We were linked with this guy last season....Molde's Orjan Nyland

Not good enough.

Or not yet, at least. Seen him play a lot for Molde and the games he's had for the Norway national team. He's been particularly dodgy for Norway, letting quite a few easy ones get past him.

Good reflexes and fairly commanding presence though.

What age is the lad?

He should leave Stoke in the summer but his destination shouldn't be Old Trafford.

Begovic will move on I bet. Then Butland will be number 1.

Arsenal definately need a keeper and have been linked. Also, Liverpool and United could be potential destinations. Only a year left on his contract as well i think.

There should be no expermiment !

Why should we as a club take on Valdes as a goalkeeper expermiment ? Goalkeeper is to do damn important to experiment with and Valdes is already well passed his best so there is no payoff to taking a gamble like there was with DDG.

How do you know he is past his best? He was performing very well right up until he got injured, and he hasn't played competitively since. There's nothing to suggest he has suffered any kind of decline, and it cannot be judged until he actually plays.

I really like Lloris, but I don't think he is composed enough to fit at United. He seems more like the kind of GK that thrives making many saves and gets confidence from it, not the kind that can stay 80 minutes with nothing to do and then pull off a world class save out of his ass.

I think we will promote Valdes as no.1, although I personally don't rate him highly, he has proven himself in a similar system and should have no problem slotting in. And maybe we will sign some young GK to be no.2/rotate with Valdes until he gets settled, or maybe promote Johnstone or that Serbian kid.

Lloris isn't coming here in a million years so I wouldn't worry about him.

Can seriously see us starting with Valdes unless he has an absolute nightmare of a pre season or something. Very suspect under the high ball as De Gea was in his early days, but he's definitely more commanding and vocal. Shouldn't underestimate the value someone of such leadership qualities can have on a team.

Looks like a blend of Schmeichel and early Tim Howard. Wonder why Ole hasn't snagged him yet ?
Because Nyland prefers playing for the champions to playing in the third tier in Norway or wherever OGS is having his time off... Nyland isn't and won't be good enough for United by a long shot. Maybe he can play for a midtable team though.

Lloris isn't tall enough imo and would be way too expensive.
Valdes will do for a year imo, if DDG does go to Madrid.

Was just going to send that and then I googled Lloris and he is 1.88cm and Valdes is 1.83......... wtfdik :)

On the strength of that, we have the new Schmeichel

He was supposed to come in and replace Lindegaard apparently.

@pierrethesnack doesn't think he's good enough. Maybe United changed their mind. If we're sticking to foreign goalies it would be nice to sign a good young prospect from Scandanavia. Those guys tend to get United instantly (well most are PL fans from young ages) and also tend to be very loyal. If Lindegaard was good enough for number one we wouldn't be worrying about him wanting a transfer.

Yann Sommer is a superb goalkeeper at the right age. Was already a legend at Basel and has conceded the 2nd least goals in Bundesliga this season after Neuer. He's also great with his feet. Has no hype whatsoever though so expect chasing the likes of Lloris for unreal sums (Levy) despite only 3 Premier League teams letting in more goals than Lloris this season -- 1 of them relegated.

I wish Jan Oblak was available. i'm really impressed with him. Just 22 and from Slovenia or thereabouts (at least no where near Madrid!). Unfortunately on a 5 year deal with Atleti:(
In any case, wish we could find someone similar. Do not want overpriced Lloris.

Cech would be a excellent replacement but can you really see Mourinho selling him to (arguably) his biggest rival for the title next season?

Yep. He'd be another Va der Sar for us. Would Chelsea let him come here though?

I reckon so, I think Mourinho will just let him make his own mind up, plus I said it in the other thread that he wouldn't actually be improving us in that position, unlike Arsenal.

Make it happen.

Shit, he's only 18 (going on 19)? He has some more growing to do! Lets not forget we have a similar prospect who's signed to us and he's a year younger (6'7 in height!!)

I think we have to go with an experienced keeper , what is the fecking point of buying a young one and being patient anyway:(

Sadly we don't have much top quality talent over here (in Norway at least) nowadays. Some decent players which could potentially play for a mid-table PL/Bundesliga club under the right circumstances (Stefan Johansen, Håvard Nordtveit, Joshua King, Mads Møller Dæhli), but other than Ødegård there isn't a single one I honestly believe could be good enough for United.

I'd be very surprised if Liverpool sign him, as rumoured. If so, it would be as a long shot/competition for the spot. I could very well be wrong, but I definitely don't rate him to be good enough for a top four PL club.

This is what hurts about this De Gea situation. We bought him young before he was even ready for the job because we saw him as a long term solution. It was a different approach to the one we took after Schmeichel left.

We made sure we signed for the future and we developed him into a world class talent, only for him to fvck off to that evil empire the minute the world has started to recognize his talents. I hate it and im not going to bid him farewell when he eventually leaves.

I'll take your word for it.

What happened to the Cillessen this season ? Was pretty consistent at the world cup.
If his abilities were in similar vein as De Gea's, Louie would not have to change him to Krul during penalties.

Great keeper no doubt but not a complete package in every possible area.

Happy to go with Valdes as number 1 but we'd need a solid back up keeper just in case. Maybe someone like Tim Krul would be interested.

The sad thing is that for the keeper coming in this would be like the manager replacing SAF scenario , you don't want to be the guy replacing DDG but rather replace the guy who replaces DDG. Whoever comes in will be 100% a downgrade and will have to deal with constant comparisons with DDG :(

If the defence improves, it won't be so bad. Though admittedly there will be times next season where we'll concede a goal and I'll think 'David would have saved that'.
