Have you seen more of Scuffet? Heard a lot of good things about him, but he hasn't featured a lot for Udinese.

Nope, not this season man. In Serie A I've mostly seen Juventus or Lazio. And a little bit of Genoa and Milan. Scuffet was very good when he broke out and earned the Buffon at Parma comparison. But I haven't actively tracked him since then. Apparently he had some inconsistent performances and was benched in favor of Karzenis. But still just 18 so there's plenty of time to develop for him.

Valdes for sure, I think he only signed knowing it was a strong possibility De Gea would be off as he's too good to play second fiddle season after season, maybe go for Cech also. I don't want Lloris especially from Levy.

Red Issue reported at the time of his signing that Valdes had been told by United he was being brought in to directly replace De Gea.

Games are obviously different, but Hoek is preparing him for the PL for 6 months, now.

Thats exactly what I reckon has been happening. I mean, it makes sense. Bring him in as a '#2' give him 6 months preparation for PL football (something DDG never got), so he's ready for the new season. Then bingo, ready made replacement for when DDG leaves.

No he is not our man

He literally is.

If we go with Valdes, it can't be that bad? How many points do you expect to drop because of Valdes being in net? He is an adequate replacement for the next 1-2 years.

In the cold light of day, its pretty obvious that that is exactly what is happening. Its just that none of us really want to admit it.

I mean, why would Valdes want to sign for a club to be #2 for the last few 'peak' years he might have left? It literally makes no sense.

What do people think of Jan Oblak? He was only bought by Atleti last summer, but he's not really featured that much due to them playing Moya ahead of him. Now Moya is 31, and no doubt that Oblak is seen as the future, but if he is unhappy at his current situation (as it has been reported in the past) then I'd love for us to go for him.

I didn't watch all that many games of Benfica last year, but those that I did watch I was extremely impressed by him.

Valdes only signed a 18month deal, he is here for rehabilitation and to provide sound cover for a while.

If Lloris really has a €20million clause, then we will buy him.

If Valdes gets back to his best he'd be great for us. He's different class with his feet, which would suit Van Gaal's approach perfectly.

Big if, though...

Yeah, I think a fully fit (and thats the key) Valdes will surprise a lot of people.

In his last season, before his injury, he was fantastic.

Fantastic goalkeeper. He could reach the same level as Courtois and De Gea.

I hope we buy Lloris just to piss Glaston off.

I don’t really think that we should go for Hugo Lloris. He’s probably as good as De Gea in shot stopping, and mabe as quick as him. But he’s not good enough with his feets and I saw it again this weekend when he missed a lot of short passes against S’ton.

If it was Fergie or Moyes, I would say, yes go for Lloris, and even more for Petr Cech, but LVG loves when his keeper plays high, like an outfield player, and recently, we have to admit that Victor Valdes was one of the best in that. He had some aerial issues, and I doubt that at 32 years of age, he would improve a lot.

Personnaly, I would give a one year trial for Valdes. The lads played for one of the greatest side of all the time, so he’s not finished, he took his time after his injury, knows the club since a year and I think that, a bit like VDS, he’ll add experience to the defense, something we miss a lot !

So I would go for Valdes as our number one next year, and I would recruit a young talented goalkeeper as number two.

Is more important how works the whole team:

Claudio Bravo has kept a clean sheet for 19 times in La Liga, at least four more than any other goalkeeper

Because nobody else offered him a contract at the time

Barca didnt want/need him anymore as #1 choice goalkeeper and apparently no other club needed him either.

On top of that he was injurred so he was glad he got the opportunity from Van Gaal to train with the club and get back to fitness. Van Gaal liked what he saw and offered him a contract as #2 behind DDG. Does that mean Valdes should be DDG replacement ?

Hell no !

Valdes has never been one of the absolute top keepers in the world. Yes he played for Barca and Barca have one of the worst track records if it comes to goalkeepers. Even at his top he was prone to making absolutely mistakes, the kind we had to witness many times when De Gea first started out with us. The difference between the two DDG grew out of them with time and practice and Valdes has always made them, he made them at Barca and if he is #1 for us he'll make them here aswell. He is a very good option to have as #2 but we can do much much better for #1 GK.

Exactly.

Cech we can forget imo. He won't join, Jose wouldn't sell. Lloris might be very expensive so lets see

Barca wanted him to stay, he choose to leave. Also, Liverpool had strong interest in him as their #1.

I'm not saying I'd have him as DDG's replacement, but thats whats going to happen.

He had a deal with Monaco lined up until he got injured.

If it were the Valdes circa 2012~ I wouldnt have too much a problem other than uncertainty over the high ball game, but from reserve games i've seen, post injury he's not looked particuarly impressive with his shot stopping, which was his biggest asset at Barca.

I think he will be our no.1 next year, but I have my doubts the experiment will work.

There should be no expermiment !

Why should we as a club take on Valdes as a goalkeeper expermiment ? Goalkeeper is to do damn important to experiment with and Valdes is already well passed his best so there is no payoff to taking a gamble like there was with DDG.

Either DDG stays or we bring in a new keeper like Cech or Lloris or somebody else with talent who is at his peak or coming to his peak. Valdes can be nr2 or he can feck off !

Hey bud, I think the majority of us echo your thoughts, but you need to tell that to LvG... it seems clear LvG brought him in with an eye on next year, at least our coaches should have 8+ months of analysis of his current ability first hand in training amassed by the end of the summer to properly gauge the decison.

Valdes is only on a 18month deal, surely we would have gave him a longer deal if we wanted him to replace De Gea?

So many better options out there, it would be incredibly frustrating if Valdes in number 1 next season.

Depends on how many crosses the other teams make.

Valdes is absolutely shit at crosses IMO, and I think that EPL will murder him.

I was thinking about the possiblities with De Gea. Which one would people prefer?

Situation 1:
We sell De Gea this summer and sign Lloris or Cech as his replacement.

Situation 2:
We keep him for another year, but he leaves for R. Madrid after next season. However, Lloris signs for PSG and Cech goes to Arsenal this summer.

Doesn't have to be Lloris or Cech, but just your top 2 keepers to replace him.

There are some good German keepers, maybe take a look at those?

What happend to Adler? He was supposed to be first gk for Germany at WC10 But due to injury he missed out and Neuer took his place (and became the best gk in the world afterwards). Didnt Adler have a special Manchester United clause in his contract since he's a huge fan?

For all we know he was been training for those for 6 months now. It could be fine.

How is starting a GK with Valdes' experience an experiment?

I guess its the same experiment we have made with Falcao this year.
Or with Moyes, last year.

I think we are doing badly when it comes to experiments, so lets just stick with proven quality players who are playing well today - not players who have played well 2-3 years ago.

He had one. When he was a player of Bayer Leverkusen. On 11-12 season he lost his place to a 19 years old Berndt Leno, and then the next season he went to Hamburg. No idea how he is doing, but he has played 8 times this season (I don't know if it is because of injury or otherwise). Anyway it seems that within 5 years he has significantly declined (he was better and highly rated than Neuer in 2010).

Leno is the German keeper we should be looking for. IMO he might be even better than Ter Stegen.

Cech would be an awesome signing. Van Der Sar all over again.

Valdes played well just last season.

Anyone mentioned Jack Butland?
He went off the boil didnt he? Not even second for his country.. Correct me if im wrong..

Valdes is more than good enough, those that say Barcelona chose to get rid are clueless trolls that just love their opinion, no fact.

Valdes is a top keeper, there are better but we would do well if DDG goes to replace him with someone whos been here a year and has played football at the highest point
