De Gea post-season interview: "Ones who want to stay, stay at the club. Ones that don't want to stay go out. You don't have to stay here."

The better all round goalkeeper got relegated today,

It goes a lot deeper my friend,

Just wish people would actually see that rather than be reactive to everything they read.
Yes, he did, and I'm sure he won't be playing for Burnley next season.

I've watched every game this season and looked at the stats. I watch De Gea every game stand in his 6 yard box, refuse to come out and catch the ball. Refuse to do almost any sweeping. Refuse to engage opposition forwards in 1v1's. Kicking the ball straight back to the opposition/out of play. These things all matter.

What stats?
Are you saying Dave had a good season and he’s not responsible for our defensive issues? I’d say there are plenty of questions to be asked about not commanding his area and his distribution. He’ll need to really kick in with the coaches next season, as Ten Hag will ask an awful lot from him.
No,
I'm saying people are claiming he's one of the reasons we are in this mess, because other keepers are more 'modern' and sweeping high up.

Yet one of the best sweeper keepers (I hate that fecking term) got relegated today.

Just shows that it doesn't matter how your keeper plays if your midfield is poor (I say that as Burnley's defensive unit are actually very good).
But people on here don't get that, as they can't see the bigger picture through their agendas and biased opinions.

How can it get to a point where not just one but multiple players don't want to be at a great club like Manchester United? There's millions who would die to play on that pitch.

Honestly in total confusion at that.
They think they have made it getting to the top and think they are in easy street, when in reality that is when the tough work begins. A majority of them have the incorrect mentality to step up and think they are fine as they are and untouchable where they are. Hence why we have players thinking they can pass the buck and still think they can perform how they like, and to a certain extend cant comprehend how its all going wrong. Too much of an ego to check themself.

Do they matter when our defensive unit had the best headed clearances from corners and set pieces this season?

A good GK can easily be trained to come off his line of his decision making is decent.
De Gea is one of those.

He is going rogue in post-match interview, plenty more as well

Problem is, David, is that you are generally as shit as half of those that don’t want to be here. Ten Hag will live or die by whether he sacks you and your big contract off.

The image of United as a great club may attract you, like working for a big innovative company but if the working conditions are poor, if for whatever reason you don't like the work environment, your boss/colleagues then you will want out regardless of how great the company/club is.

Yes, they do. If De Gea catches the ball from a corner or set piece, the danger is instantly over. A headed clearance isn't always a good one. The danger is sometimes still there. We have conceded goals, because De Gea won't come out and catch anything.

No, they can't. If they could, De Gea would have learnt to do it in the 10 years he's been at this club. He's 31 and not going to change his style of play.

Sounded very much like ‘poor team’ to me and his English is very good.

I think it's pretty clear that he didn't say that but even if it was unclear, basic common sense should tell you that he's more likely to have said it's a team sport given that's the standard football cliché answer.

Regarding the quotes, I genuinely think that (from context and from the way he says it) that he mixes up team sport with sport team, then corrects it in the next sentence to "team e-sport" as is common in Spanish speakers when a word starts with 's'. The fact that he says that "it's a team sport so it doesn't matter what I did" and that he's publicly denying to have said "this team is poor" makes me believe him, even if I can understand him being misquoted based on the audio.

Yet some of the keepers with the best claims of crosses etc have been in worse teams than a poor United team, despite beating United (some of them)

Seriously, people need to stop focusing on sweeper keepers and stats relating to them, as it's misleading as to who is a good keeper and who isn't.

Although he 100% shouldn't have said it this is yet another issue with this club. We have a fan base which consists of individuals who are constantly looking for controversial comments and content so they can boost their own online social media platforms and profiles.

What he's said isn't wrong. For large parts of this season DDG and Ronny have been only two people who have performed anywhere near an acceptable level.

I just hope in tomorrow's meeting EtH tells these bastards to shut up. Because everytime a united player opens their mouth recently it just makes the situation worse.

He's saved us many points this season.

This is very true. Maybe our best player this season, not for the first time.

Unfortunately it's also very true that he lacks the characteristics beyond being a brilliant shot stopper to be in a top high press team.

You can be 100% sure that ETH won't be taking that advice

He didn't. He said "it's a sports team, it's a team sport". Not "it's a poor team".

Yeah so ? Are people acting as if the problem is in this word only ? Literally the next sentence is "the team is poor". He's absolving himself from the blame saying he did well while the team was poor. Hearing "sports" as "poor" doesn't change anything at all from the context of the sentence when the next sentence is him saying the team is poor indeed.

And De Gea didn't reply on this by saying they heard him wrong. He just literally said "I didn't say that".

He looks like a clown now.

Well done on still not getting it

At no point in the clip that was posted in the tweet you were responding to did he say the team was poor. That's the point.

Check the post above.
He never said poor. He said team sports... then corrected himself by saying sports team. Poor team doesn't even make sense in that context. He was saying that he thought he did pretty well, but it doesn't matter because its a team sport. He was trying to be humble.

No he doesn't

David has one full year left on his contract, so unless he is transferred, then he'll be here next season. After that, probably not, unless he wants to stay on reduced wages and not likely to be first choice.

Think he should be given the opportunity to fight for his position for his last contracted year then be allowed to make a choice. And he'd be smart to leave and be with his family in Spain for his remainder of career.

He clearly said it at 0:12.

I did. You need some hearing aids my friend. Give it a rest. This is a complete non- issue.

Nah, I left these hearing aids to you.

Who said it's an issue though ? No one said that. It's just a clownish moment from De Gea. Not a problem but he tried to act smart on Twitter and got his arse handed to him.

Which isn’t going happen. He’s just as much of a problem as any other player in the squad. Should we revert back to more possession football that’s when his weaknesses show.
While I agree that DDG isn't the perfect GK, he is better than most out there and I would definitely put him in the top 5 in the league.
If you go through all the rest of the positions, how many others are top 5 in their position. Right now Ronaldo and honestly that's it.

Blaming the GK for our long run of disappointment is pretty naive. GK don't win you leagues. I remember a quote from Brian Clough years ago when Peter Shilton was at his absolute peak saying he gave them an extra 4 points a season. He meant that as a compliment.

So unless big Dave is going to adapt his game to where he beats 10 men and bangs it in regularly from 30 yards I don't think the best in the world is going to get us the 30 odd points we are currently behind. ETH might not fancy him as 1st choice, who knows, but he is definitely far from being the problem.

The only person that seems to be getting his arse handed to him is you mate.

It's not just about being a sweeper keeper. It's about almost everything that isn't just making saves from longer range efforts. That's the problem. De Gea has massive holes in many parts of his game. That's why people like me complain about him. Him and a lot of our fans think that making a few saves is enough for an elite level goalkeeper. It isn't.

Our defence has almost never looked good in the 10 years he's been here. He is the only constant.
