Day 17: England vs Germany | Sweden vs Ukraine (Ro16 7&8)

Two teams playing with a back 3 usually ends up being a boring game.

We've got 7 defensive players on and Kane putting in a 0/10 performance.

So it's basically 2 attacking players on the pitch for us.

The only way I see us scoring is from a set piece or a fluke error like the Kane chance right before half time

Ole Gunnar Southgate and his 7 defensive players. If City want to spend £100million on Kane they are welcome to him. He reminds me of Shearer at the back end of his career. Slow as fook.

England need to move the ball quicker. The players are dawdling before taking the obvious path. It is making it easier to defend against than it should be.
Agreed, our best chances are when the ball is moving fast, we need to get bodies forward and move the ball faster. Get Grealish on and play some football. We can honestly beat this Germany side.

Rice and Philips are not releasing the ball quick enough and too much side ways passing. Walker is scared to do anything attacking, when he refused to cross was ridiculous.

Kane has been a huge disappointment but by God the passing has been so slow and sloppy at times. The players have been told never to pass up an opportunity to play it back to the goalkeeper, and then our build-up play from the back has been embarrassing. I'd like to see Grealish given a chance, and/or the likes of Sancho and Rashford to try to stretch play and link up with the wingbacks would be good.

Don't get the criticism of Kane today, that was too far to his left to wrap around for a shot strong enough to angle across and beat Neuer. He's been involved in creating space for Saka and Sterling, and the crosses have been lacking for him to win aerial duels.

England's defensive plan is working well. German wing backs are always man marked, and their usually strong midfield is not finding the space or time to put Werner/Havertz through thanks to the two English DMs covering a lot of ground.

They have been lucky not to concede from set pieces, Maguire should have scored.

Very cautious and cagey, but you have to ask if penalties are the way to go for England, and when they will go for it themselves.

Don’t think the Rice yellow was even a free-kick. Goretzka ran out of steam and threw his leg out to the side to engineer the contact.

Some will find excuses for england being this cautious against Germany, but you have to wonder why a squad full of attacking talents can't produce any decent football the whole tournament. Southgate is simply a very limited manager. He might win this, but he has no balls to take the game to anyone.

Jenas bitching on Shaw. He’s gone too far.

Pretty good performance by England in the first half, had a good amount of possession and not been hustled or pressed by Germany much.

As one of the most critical people of Rice, he has actually had a really good half. Saka is a really intelligent player must stay on. If he's the one who gets hooked for Foden it will be no good.

Both teams have amazing players and terrible managers. At least the Germans can look forward to Flick taking over.

Maybe but I’m pretty sure that’s usually how officials would interpret it
It's one of those where it's definitely 50/50 IMO, Walker was close enough to make it debatable and not "var-able". The Phillips one was a clear red for me though, can't go studs up straight leg like that. Got away with it.
