Day 17: England vs Germany | Sweden vs Ukraine (Ro16 7&8)

Our squad is more than good enough to win this game. Unfortunately, the team is completely stifled by the tactics and selection. So negative its untrue.

Harry Kane has been putting in Heskey at the 2010 WC level performances this tournament. Absolutely shite.

Philips straight leg and when Goretzka was clear on goal. Not much discussion. If England wasn't home team both players would have gone from the game.
I can see an argument for the Philips challenge but the one on Goretzka is just bullshit. Walker was right there, that wa s ever a red. Get over yourself.

He's not been much of a threat at set pieces. But otherwise I agree, DCL would not do better in Kane's place

He wouldn't do any better.

England are set up not to lose first and foremost. The front 3, whoever they are, are completely isolated. The only chances we've created came from a set-piece and a mistake from a German player.

Saka has been great. The problem is that he never gets the ball in good positions. When does he ever get it one on one? It's annoying we play such terrible football

Just bring on bloody rashford for Kane.
Actually that's a good idea, Rashford can run at them slow CBs and cause havoc, Sterling is doing it.. I'd take Kane and Saka off and bring in Grealish who can float around behind to quick attackers...

Yeah no, neither of those is a red card. Philips got close, the other one nowhere near a red card.
Nah id agree. Phillips one is very lucky, it's a textbook red card, the Rice one is 50/50 as it's close enough to the goal where you couldn't argue it being a last man sending off, but Walker just about was close enough to make it 50/50 and only get the yellow for Rice. Another ref definitely would've given both as reds, but luck on England's side meant both were yellows. Phillips one for sure though for me should always be a red.

Oh and the number of times English needed a switch in play and Stones and Shaw just played between themselves..
That drove me mad. Rather run into 6 Germans on the right than shift it quickly to the left into acres of space.

Hummels best player on the pitch Not that this is saying much in this uninspired and forgetful half of football. Germany has no proper space creation which means Southgates ultra conservative approach of packing defense and midfield is working for now. Biggest worry is Englands bench hich is far more stacked with quality than ours. If Southgate awakes from his fever dream and starts letting them play to their strengths, they will probably really hurt Germany.

Most park bus works. Until they got punctured.

Doesnt matter how many they let out if they let in a few

Kroos is by the way really lucky that Phillips only scraped his leg with his horrendous challenge. Thats a stone wall red, you never go with open studs ankle or higher into a tackle. That is like an unspoken rule of football because such a motion rips ligaments like nothing else. Ugly, ugly challenge

Ridiculous isn’t it. We’re giving them far too much respect. They are there for the taking.

One of the CM's needs to be subbed asap (preferably not for Henderson) and I'd like to see Sancho on sooner rather than later. I'd be livid if Rashford came on instead of him.

England need to move the ball quicker. The players are dawdling before taking the obvious path. It is making it easier to defend against than it should be.

Please send Grealish on Gareth, I can't watch another 45 minutes of creating nothing
