Day 17: England vs Germany | Sweden vs Ukraine (Ro16 7&8)

Neither team can take control of the game because the midfields are so average.

England legit have a good squad and options to put together a team to play in different ways. I consider this the worst version. England are hamstrung by Southgate. So much talent at our disposal to do serious damage and its safety first approach in every game. Football is so boring to watch these days.

Half time, pretty even game.

Kane has been horrendous as per the tournament. Saka has looked too young to be there and not the right choice there. Sterling and Phillips have done really well. Defensively for all the players England have gave up a few too many moments and are lucky not to have conceded. Got let off by the ref twice, 2 borderline red card moments that both ended in yellows only.

From Germany's perspective, too tentative and not enough pace going forward IMO. Need Gnabry in the attack along with Werner as he's getting too isolated. Goretzka showing how big of a loss he was as he's been immense IMO.

Finely balanced!

Not even about burying it with his left... Just slide in before Hummels and stick it in with your right

Playing with 3 cb’s and 2 cdm’s gives us no bodies upfront we are clearly outnumbered at every attack

Kane's performance finally getting called out by the pundits

My son picked England to win the Euros. After the fans boo the Germany national anthem he is now cheering for Germany to win.

Still feels like England can get a goal out of very little...nearly there at half time and Germany given away loads of challenges around the box but set pieces again been mediocre.

Will say it again, one of the subs benches will win this, Gnabry on the German one and you'd think his pace would make a difference and England got countless ball carrying options.

Weird seeing Saka like that, I have never seen him play with so little intensity.

Not a great game so far. Having said that, Kane should have out England 1-0 up there at the end. Definitely should have taken it first time. Felt like he was over-thinking it.

England will be gutted about that Kane chance. Doesn’t look up to it at all

Could’ve/Should’ve been a red on Phillips.
Surprised there wasn’t a VAR check.

It was the exact same challenge that Ampadu committed against Italy, which was a straight red

Truly believe they are there for the taking. Southgate is yet again too negative. Take off tripper, go to a back four and bring on Grealish to connect the midfield with Kane. Everyone blaming Kane but he’s had absolutely zero supply this half.

Hummels best player on the pitch Not that this is saying much in this uninspired and forgetful half of football. Germany has no proper space creation which means Southgates ultra conservative approach of packing defense and midfield is working for now. Biggest worry is Englands bench hich is far more stacked with quality than ours. If Southgate awakes from his fever dream and starts letting them play to their strengths, they will probably really hurt Germany.

Midfield is a real problem. No link between the two CMs and Kane. So much space there.

Germany are so bad why do not try to hurt them with your best players ?
Bring Grealish, Sancho, Mount.
Of they suppose to play like that if they somehow beat them i would rather they lose.

Shearer isn’t impressed with Kane

Sterling didn't even want to pass to Kane at the end there. His own teammates don't even trust him.

Said it before the match. If we're playing 343 we should have the Chelsea fullbacks starting. It's the key position in that formation and they fecking won the champions league in that position. Shaw and Trippier have been so underwhelming.

Phillips and Rice both been booked, red card odds are high.

Who can replace them if subbed though?

Why are the England players so afraid of running with the ball and constantly passing the ball sideways?. The amount of times Luke Shaw got the ball and passed back. Bloody hell. Just stop passing sideways. This is such a timid and cowardly performance.

Beckham is so dreamy. Ed Sheeran...not so much

Unlucky by England at the end there. They've been gash at set pieces. Germany have been little better surprisingly, although with Werner as the spear point...

If you're gonna play like this then at least have Grealish on to draw fouls and advance the ball. Bring him on for Saka or Sterling.

Nah Kane has been terrible individually the entire tournament. Can't blame service always when the touches he has had haven't been good either.

That’s how I see it having no emotional engagement whatsoever to that team. If Southgate grinds you a semi final or something - fair enough. If not, some questions to be asked if it was not better to just give a try to a bit more positive football.

I’d love to see him totally change the front three, grealish, foden and sancho for kane, Sterling and Saka. Mount aswell, maybe for rice or Phillips.

After yesterday's football, this is universe 'leveling out entertainment from the Euros. Not sure if I have the energy to watch the second half.
