Day 13: Costa Rica vs. England

That's nothing to do with Rooney's absence. Barkley isn't doing anything either, just like Wayne.
I hear Wayne was to blame for the fighting in Ukraine too - oh, and he hacked phones for the News of the World

Still seems like a typical English kick and run footballer

He's much more than that; his balance and close control is fantastic. He can play it with both feet and reads the very game well for a 20 year old.

If England wanna change their style of play over the next few years, then we're going to have to try and build the team around Wilshere and Barkley. Players like Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard we're never going to be able to control the game as well as Wilshere and Barkley could possibly do so, because they're technique and intelligence wasn't quite good enough.

Barkley and Wilshere on the other hand, are the best midfield talents we've had since Scholes IMO.

What we learned from 45 minutes:

We don't need Gerrard in this team half as much as we think we do
Sturridge is not a top-class striker. In the Shearer/Owen/Sheringham/Wright era he probably wouldn't have made the plane
Lampard is still a decent player
Barkley could become an immense talent

wilshere gets blown off the ball every time someone farts in the crowd

Whats half of nothing?

All the wanking over these supposed talented "youngsters" yet a 36 year old Lampard is outplaying all of them combined.

What I can't stand is everyone said England would be crap and inexperienced building for next time, then when exactly that happened the same people lost their shit with the players and demanded the manager be sacked. Bizarre.

Would have liked to see England go into a tournament without Gerrard for once. Convinced he's the problem.

Do you think Lampard will benefit from playing this game and put him in a good place ready for the qualifiers that he won't be involved in?

Implying its not a good president to set that if you play well and want to play, you will. Nah, guess we cant play anyone over the age of 30. Hell I guess pirlo shouldn't play as its his last world cup and wont be involved in the next one. LOGIC.

Someone put me out of the misery of listening to Ian Wright and his Sun newspaper bullshite

Lampard should have started every game instead of Gerrard I don't care how old he is

He is an immense talent, he could be an immense player.

The difference between Cole and Sturridge is that Cole knew his limitations. Sturridge thinks he's alot better player than he is.

Yeah, it's such a shock that a 36 year old who has played hundreds of games looks better than players in their early 20s. What exactly is your point? That we should get rid of the youth and stick with Lampard?

Barkley is immensely talented but he has zero vision and passing skills. He's more of a Second Striker ala Kaka than a cultured attacking midfielder (Mata, Silva, Iniesta)

Just me that thinks we would probably still be better off playing Rooney as a 9 than Sturridge then?

What bothers me is that the players we started with during the Italy and Uruguay game weren't even that young. Wilshere, Lallana and Barkley are our most technically minded players, yet all three were left on the bench for Welbeck, Gerrard and Rooney.

Hodgson basically went for work horses and pace.

My only surprise was that he left Milner out.

The problems are endless but one of them is that Smalling and Jones are being massively held back by not playing regularly enough for their club in their favoured position. I appreciate they play for a big club so it's difficult but still.

Wilshere/Barkley are really the only positives. Why we are playing with Foster/Lampard/Milner in a dead game is so completely beyond me. What are we learning from them?

Forster should be playing, as should Sterling. Completely ridiculous from England's worst ever manager.

Lampard should not have started every match. He's made a few good long balls today, it doesn't mean he should have played or that he's still got it.

"Cor blimey, stone the crows - bet yer granny on the next throw-in NAAOOOOOO!1!"

Compare our "youngsters" performances to Nigeria's, France's, Ghana's or Belgium's.

There's no excuse for the likes of Lallana, Sturridge, Wilshere, Welbeck & Jones to be performing this poorly.
