Day 13: Costa Rica vs. England

Sturridge hits a shot way off target

Andy Townsend "Not a bad attempt that from Sturridge just a wee bit to left and it would of been a goal, at least he's taking chances"

Rooney hits a shot just missing the target by an inch

Andy Townsend "Sloppy play that from Wayne, he should of passed it instead"

Andy as nothing but praise for Rooney.

Have this as a 0-0 in our betting game. A team that needs a draw to secure top spot against a team with hardly any motivation.

Oh look. Another poor refereeing decision against England - surprise surprise.

All the dodgy penalties that have been given this tournament, then that one somehow isn't!?

when are fifa going to admit that the refereeing has been worse than england's performances!!

no other team in the competition would have even taken henderson on the plane

Yes, no other team in this competition would have taken one of Liverpool's best performing players from last season when they challenged for the title and one of the most improved players in the league.

It's not like plenty of teams are using Liga MX mid fielders or anything.

Sturridge will, when given the opportunity, score a goal?

More like when he's given 24 opportunities he'll maybe score a goal.

He should be planning for the future.

Agreed.

Who could he play in Frank's position? Gerrard? That's hardly planning for the future. Henderson? He's played the first two games and will come on for Frank in this one.

There's nobody else in the squad who would benefit from playing ahead of Lampard.

No, plan for the future a future without fatso, Milner and Gerrard.
Gerard isnt playing

The vast majority of todays line up is young players. Stop it

Just stop it

I dont care anyway, Im not even watching the game

Henderson for the full 90.

People will no doubt say "We play much better without Rooney".

When the reality isn't that Rooney makes us a bad team it's that managers don't play him in his right position and thus messes the entire system because everyone is out of position.

We aren't playing better because of the lack of Rooney, it's because everyone is in their correct positions and the people that are on the pitch actually want to play and are trying their hardest to win or impress. You shouldn't simply pick players because they are young. Millner and Lampard are far better then Gerrard and Henderson, there is a reason he still gets played in that oil club.
