A great tactical manager is able to adjust during the game to fix the things that aren't working. A decent manager addresses the glaring issues between games. Southgate is on his third and if anything the problems that were obvious against Serbia have not only not been fixed, but they've gotten worse as the tournament has gone on. At this point they might as well appoint a top hat as manager and have the players draw random 10 names at out of it themselves to select the outfielders and it wouldn't be much worse.

Gallagher offered much better balance to the midfield than Trent, but Mainoo offered better balance than both of them combined.
