Day 12 | England v Slovenia + Denmark v Serbia | France v Poland + Netherlands v Austria

Spain, Germany, Portugal & France are all on the same side of the draw. England on the other side won't have to face a top team until the final.

As they say, it's better to be lucky than be good. The much maligned Southgate is taking England to the final again.

Imagine if he doesnt make it to the final... it is not impossible

Foden could get a straight red and Southgate would still try to start him in the next game.

This is pending England actually winning the group right? Not completely impossible to imagine them missing out somehow.

That's the exciting Gordon, Palmer Eze, Mainoo and wharton prob not getting a start in this tournament now. So disappointing.

I want to see them , I think he might throw them in 2nd half if this goes tits first half . If they start well , I doubt we will see much of any of them .

All it shows to me is that England are doing the same thing they always do. Media and fans turning on the team at the first sign of trouble because they think they're entitled to beat everyone. Players then crumbling under the pressure.

The pundits are just giving their opinion. England have not been good. What do they really expect them to say?

The funny thing is, Foden has demonstrated the ability to hug the left wing at club level when Pep needed him to. He can cross, he can dribble, he can cut it and shoot - Foden is versatile and tactically flexible.

There is width on offer should Southgate ask for it. Seems like the persistent coagulation of Bellingham/Kane/Foden in the left channel's half spaces is a feature, not a bug. Only Southgate knows why.

Southgate in easy group and easy route to the final shocker. He really does live a charmed life as England manager.

Let's not kid ourselves, Netherlands will beat us should we play like we have been doing, even if they are also not upto it anymore.

Can't see how the one change will make a difference.

But its interesting that while playing the non-defender in the midfield was an absolute disaster, the left side problem is actually the worst one. Get the attack clicking properly by having Gordon on left wing, use foden off the bench to replace bellingham and keep them both fresh, which will benefit us later in the tournament too.

He has ignored the criticism, because the one thing southgate is, is pig headed. The more people say it won't work, the more he will do it. And we still have professional pundits defending him, and talking as if galagher is the answer to it all.

Get the most from a front 4 of bellingham, gordon kane and saka and you could have southgate himself playing in front of the back four and we would win this game.

Likely permutations for England:

Win v Slovenia by 3 (or more): Slovakia/Romania in the Round of 16. Italy/Switzerland in QF.

Win v Slovenia by 1/2: Netherlands in the Round of 16. Italy/Switzerland in QF.

Draw v Slovenia: Germany in the Round of 16. Spain in QF.

Lose v Slovenia: Belgium/Ukraine in the Round of 16. Austria/Turkey in QF.

Oddly, with the way the draw works it is probably better to lose to Slovenia than draw.

ITV presenters talking about the pitch and the conditions is cringe. "It's quite hot", "this pitch suits our game better than the Frankfurt one".

Come on the lions!!! Who are we most likely to get if we top the group?

No, I don’t really rate Antony Gordon that highly at all and Cole Palmer had barely played a first team game this time last year.

How many in the France squad have never played a Champions League game vs the England squad? The experience difference is levels above, that’s undeniable.

Gordon played in the CL last season though.

Don't think there's anything wrong with freshening things up in the last group game and just giving a few more players the chance to show what they can do.

The entire England team looked lethargic vs Denmark and ringing the changes a little would serve well.

He's created a good environment apparently. If I was a player in that squad not getting a game I wouldn't be happy. It seems you can perform as poorly as you want if your one of his favourites, your not getting dropped.

Don't care what side of the draw England are on because we're shite and won't win it, anyway. It's a pointless discussion. Either way it doesn't matter.

Denmark will have win their game. If they lose or draw you'll still top the group regardless of your result.

Definitely a lot more fun now we're out of the 'good vibes only :)', 'Look at Saka and Rice on an inflatable unicorn! Very wholesome!', 'Tune in after the break because you definitely won't want to miss Conor Gallagher doing the Fluffy Bunny Challenge with Aaron Ramsdale'. Absolute dead era of punditry.

Neville tries his hardest to revive it though.

Once shaws back in the line up you’ll see a big difference to our left side. Don't like trippier out there. Wish he’d stop playing Gallagher though, he’s awful. Mainoo and Wharton would be much better options. Or even palmer as 10 with rice and Bellingham deeper.

It's just Southgate isn't it. Gallagher was coming a mile off, there would be no other change that would make sense in the mind of Southgate, a man who boldly proclaimed that we miss Kalvin Phillips, one of the worst midfielders in the league last season. A man that we miss so much, that he could have picked but decided to create an excuse for himself rather than making the ballsy decision to pick him in the first place if he was so fundamental.

He's just a bland, boring, insipid manager. That's always going to be the side of the coin he falls on when given a choice.

Both France and the Netherlands play very casually…teams that play like this don’t stand a chance.

France especially, they just don't look like a serious contender. Deschamps makes Southgate look adventurous
