Day 1 | Germany vs Scotland

I thought Scotland was a team in form

Mid 2023 yeah.

They didn't win any of their last four qualifiers and some pretty poor warm up results (losing at home to Northern Ireland and 2-2 with Finland) so feels a bit like Wales in the last World cup.

They just need to focus on peaking v Hungary and trying to scramble a 1-1 off Swiss as those should be tighter matches.

Even if they miraculously get third, Scotland aren't finishing as one of the 4 best third placed runners up.

With VAR though, shouldn't have they really changed this ridiculous behavior?

I don't think they can help themselves. Just like when they appeal for a ball that goes out of play that they blatantly touched last.

I put Gundogan because i thought he was the penalty taker.... he seemed to take the ball at the first penalty shout?

Or did he skip it because he was hurt from the foul?
I guess the latter, didn't look great and he'll probably just tried to make it till halftime to further evaluate.

What an absolutely horrific first half. As the lads from Trainspotting said, it’s shite being Scottish. The unionists will be pissing themselves with laughter.

Has any team ever lost 10-0 on the opening game?

To be honest even I switched off and I ain't supporting Scotland, it's so one sided I'd rather do something else.
I find it to be very balanced and hope for more balance in the second half.

This is the worst I’ve ever seen Scotland play.

I hesitate to even say they’re ‘playing’ football. They’ve all been a complete liability and quite frankly not good enough.

I didn’t expect a win, but the manner of the showing is humiliating. Attracting the inevitable smug English comments.

It really is the hope that kills you being Scottish. This is atrocious.

We have no midfield whatsoever, our back line is too deep and McGregor and McTominay are providing no cover nor support getting caught in no man’s land allowing Tony bloody Kroos to amble about and run the show.

Sake man.

They need to make sure they don't collapse completely. Losing by 5 or 6 here will be their end.

Mentally it wouldn't be great.

However still would be six points to play for and Hungary and Swiss won't quite have the quality Germany do over the pitch so Scotland will have more of the ball and need to do something with it.

Remember when City had 10 men at half time and were 3-0 down to Tottenham and they came back to win 4-3. That won't happen here.

Scotland making the Germans look like the best team in the world. Well done.

McTominay hiding in midfield. Done decently when he was actually on the ball but makes no effort to get on it. Him taking a long indirect freekick to cross the ball was a complete miscast. If hes not in the box why is he playing

Scotland's tactical setup is extremely poor. Their narrow back five and midfield three lack any form of compactness. Their zonal defense is abysmal(from the front-line).

I agree. I feel sorry for whoever tops their group and still has to play 3rd place in Spain’s group.

Scotland just got to scrub this one off and attempt to beat Hungary and Swiss now.

Need to be starting Gilmour and Shankland next game.

There is no way they are beating them. Swiss always do well and compete with the top teams and Hungary qualified unbeaten from their group.

They are sunk.

Horrible challenge.

Can see it being 5 or 6 if Germany feel like it, although putting in 50% effort in the second half seems the more sensible option.

Yes Germany do look like a well prepared team this time and lots of talent in the squad.

They're truly shocking. Didn't expect that.

Nothing better than seeing Englanders, Scots and Irish fighting. It warms my heart because it reminds me on my Balkan hh

So he is supposed to be the penalty taker? Looks like i made some awful last minutes decisions for my fantasy team by taking out Wirtz and putting Gundogan in....
