It's now official - 6 year contract.

6 years! I guess he's yet another player who has been duped into joining a group of badly-treated, virtual slaves who were all forced at gun-point to renew their previous contracts ;)

It's clear Poch is looking to play 3 at the back and free up his relatively inexperienced full-backs from defensive duties by playing them as wing backs. It may also mean that Danny Rose will see his appearances few and far between - from what I have heard Poch doesn't trust players once they have spoken out like that.

They have lost one of their most effective duo in Rose and Walker and I would be really surprised if their performance levels now don't drop. Especially after wage fiasco and players secretly empathizing with Rose.

So what's going to happen to Wimmer & Vickers now?

Wimmer is reportedly going to West Brom. Carter-Vickers will more or less be in the same position as he was last season, he's still only 19 so there's time for him yet.

Terrible signing for Spurs and one of the few deals I'm glad we didn't go into battle for. That said, the CB we have ourselves signed doesn't exactly look like a world beater.

Why do you think that?

I don't think he'll fit in.

Poor on the ball
Rash with questionable decision making (yes he's still very young, but that's why at the price it's a terrible deal)
No idea if he'll really be suited to the premier league
Don't trust his temperament

I think he'll be an expensive liability you'll come to regret.

I've seen him in grand total of one game. In that game he seemed to be extremely fast. At the same time he also looked very poor in his positional sense. I think he might need a fair amount of time to settle in.

Well, we'll see I guess.

All I really know about him is that he seems - as a prospect at least - to be highly rated by a fair few people and that, according to the official signing statement:

"47 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring seven goals ... won Ajax’s ‘Rinus Michels’ Player of the Year Award in his only season at the Club, which was previously won by Jan Vertonghen in 2012 and Rafael van der Vaart in 2002.

He made his professional debut for Atletico Nacional aged 17 and was part of their Copa Libertadores winning side in 2016.

Having represented his country at Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 levels, Sanchez made his senior Colombia debut in November, 2016 and has made two appearances for the national side."

Amount of money seems crazy for a player like him but I'm still far from happy. Not like we can buy anything from it anyway.

It is a good signing, excellent player.

I don't understand how he is so underrated on here by some.

Because he was crap in the final.

Rarely have I seen a player be so poor on the ball and make so many bad decisions at this level.

Imagine playing £42M for a 20 year old very raw CB who was so bad on the ball it was the tactic of Jose to let him just have the damn thing in the final.

My gut feeling says we'll eventually regret getting Lindelof instead of him (similar prices?). Hope to be wrong obviously

I don't understand where this is coming from, he looks like a beast to me: 6 goals, 2 assists, 85% passing accuracy. On this video he makes so many good forward runs, plays in so many good balls, long range passes that are very accurate, some really nice ball touches aswell.

I really don't understand how anyone can say he is poor on the ball. The other day someone was saying he makes Smalling look like Beckenbauer, honestley I don't get this place sometimes.

So you are basing this off 1 game, an EL final where a team full of inexperienced kids needed to play the game of their lives versus the big Manchester United. I also saw the game and I actually taught he looked pretty good in that.

Nope honestley still don't know why this he is so piss poor on ball idea is coming from.

I think he can be a really good transfer for Spurs. Certainly has the physical attributes for EPL.

Time will tell, I guess.

Strong, tall, brave, athletic defender who has a good eye for the tackle. And he's not poor on the ball, it's just that De Ligt was better. I think this is a pretty good signing. Maybe a tad overpriced, but that's the market.

I can see him being a dependable 7/10 starter for them in the future.

Didn't Jose specifically name him as the weak link in Ajax defence after the final? I think we even targeted him due to how poor he is on the ball.

Young defender though so he will probably get better. Why the feck you'd sign a 6 year deal at a club known to underpay its players is bizarre.

If you watched that game and thought he looked good on the ball I'm not sure what to tell you. Our entire strategy hinged on simply allowing him to have the ball and do what he liked with it and it worked extremely successfully because he was awful at doing anything with it under no pressure.

He has plenty of talent, but it'll take time to hone and mold into a high quality PL CB. Luckily he's going to be working under a manager who seems to have a knack for developing young talent.

All part of the continuing bafflement of some opposition fans ... perhaps you're missing something?

I haven't said anything about his general level, I am just explaining to you why so many posters on here don't rate him.

"We wanted to create instability. We would let them play out from the back while blocking (Matthijs) De Ligt, their right centre-back, making them play through Davinson Sanchez who had more trouble."

Jose Mourinho after the final.

It's already starting to crack with Danny Rose, your better players are gonna want a bigger piece of the pie. You can't value a player at £100m then pay him a £25m player wage and get away with it for long.

Mourinho, who has always been known for his forensic attention to detail when it comes to assessing opposing teams, revealed that he watched Ajax eight times before the final.

"In England I see only two or three, because I already know the opponent, but not in European competitions," he explained.

"For me, the analysis of the opponent is very important, because I play against the opponent and I define the training in relation to that."

Mourinho, who let his side cede 69 per cent of possession in the final, was comfortable letting Ajax play out from the back but ensured their young centre-half Matthijs de Ligt was given less time on the ball than the less technically accomplished Davinson Sanchez.

I've not heard the Gullit quote. Stam was 36 when he played for Ajax and retired at the end of one season, so it's a bit of a weird quote. I'd hope that most defenders are better than a 36 year old on the brink of retirement.
I guess he was talking about prime Stam but it's clearly rewriting history anyway. Sanchez is a great talent but no way he's as good as Vertonghen was when he played for us. Vertonghen was so far ahead of the rest it was ridiculous.

He was atrocious in the EL Final - despite some weird comments on here about him being good  - but apart from that, I've never seen him play.

Players are going to be signing new deals after the window shuts. Danny Rose might not be one of them, but the rest will.
