Davinson Sanchez to Spurs | Done subject to medical and work permit

Spurs have finally realised there's a transfer window. I've only seen him play once and that was of course the Europa League final and I thought he was by far their best player.
Don't agree at all, de Ligt was better.

Definitely rough but his potential is all there to see. Reminds me a lot of our bailly in the sense his physique is perfect but a little rash, needs to be a bit calmer.

Pochettino could make him a monster.

Probably davinson is doing the same with spurs as we speak

Indeed, I'm sure he will. Footballers will of course only know about Real and Barcelona, Juve, Bayern and a scattering of other clubs in Manchester and London. I imagine they'd struggle to keep a catalogue of more than 7 or 8 clubs in their heads at the same time.

All other clubs may as well be backwaters playing in backwater leagues! :D

One of the top defensive talents in world football. He's a physical specimen that uses his attributes well. Bit rash though, and I'd consider De Ligt the better of the two at Ajax. Much better technically.

Yeah I have no idea why people think he played well in that game.

His distribution was shocking (I think Mourinho even said we deliberately targeted him), and he made countless errors. I can see why people might think he showed some potential in that game, but he definitely didn't have a good game.

He did make one recovery run and great tackle on Rashford and that seemed to colour perceptions. Then he made another one which was actually a foul when Rashford was clean through and Owen Hargreaves was still wanking himself silly.

Deal done for 43m Euros according to Ajax's ITK(reddit's opinion).

I think this signing smacks of desperation and he'll flop. Happy to see Spurs spunking away what little money they have on players like this.

Why would it "smack of desperation"? And why do you think he'd flop?

Don't understand why they need him tbh!

43m for a back up centre half is a lot.

It probably means Wimmer is gone? He'd play FA Cup and League Cup matches.

Maybe they think one of Vertonghen or Alderweild will move to a bigger club next year. Levy is smart enough to know to get a replacement in the year before.

Pochettino has done well with his defenders and with big strong, quick athletes in general (Sissoko has flopped, but he's not very good at football). I think this will probably work out well for Spurs.

Still think they need to buy a proper scary dribbling winger before the window shuts.

The latter is available for 25m next summer, I'd be amazed if he's still there next season

Not correct. His release clause only kicks in - in the summer 2019 - if Spurs exercise their option to extend his current contract by one year.

Where do you think Sanchez fits in?

At that price he'd be your most expensive ever signing and I don't see where he'd start.

They looked better last season when they played 3 at the back, imo. Maybe Poch wants a permanent switch to that?

I know very little about him, apart from the impression that's he's a highly-rated prospect. I think he's an RCB, so eventually, if he actually signs and settles in well, I'd imagine he's intended to become a regular on the right-side of a back 3.

In the longer run, this would maybe open a question mark about Dier, although he could of course also play in CM alongside Wanyama. And it'd also probably be a hedge against the chance that Alderweireld won't sign a new contract.

With Wimmer being sold (I'd guess) we'd have the same number of CBs as now, so he'd also be available, along with Carter-Vickers, as CB cover for Vertonghen and Alderweireld.

De Telegraaf saying that Madrid and Chelsea are also interested but Sanchez wants to go to Spurs

Physically he looked the part in the Europa final against Rashford but I felt his CB partner was probably the better player

De Ligt is making too many mistakes currently, but he looked the better player in the final. Is also a few years younger

Brute of defender, physically excellent from the little I've seen, but he looked garbage on the ball in the EL final. So much so that United players didn't even seem to mind that he was bringing the ball over the half way line.

Well, that was Jose's tactic....to man mark everyone except Sanchez, so that he was always the easiest option for Ajax players to pass to, then allow him to give the ball away with poor distribution.
Worked a treat, obviously..!

40m seems a lot for a player who was part of a back four that conceided 11 goals in KO phase EL last season.

We don't yet know how much the deal with be - assuming it happens. £40 million would be a lot however he is probably one of the best young defensive talents in the world so the way the market is right now maybe that's the going rate.

Ludicrous amount of money for a largely unproven youngster. Only reason he has this pricetag is because Ajax somehow made it to the EL final last year. Sure he's fast, but he's laughably bad on the ball, prone to brainlesness and has had 6 good months in a joke league.

But at least Ajax has completey panicked now and are bound to lose some points. Feyenoord won the league once, might as well prolong it.

His presence would probably free up Dier to play his favoured midfield role full time. Especially if the rumours the Dembele claimed he won't be able to play pain free anymore are to be believed....

He's a great talent and one for the future, but he's not ready for PL football yet. As others have said in this thread if Spurs do land him I'd expect him to play predominantly in League and FA Cup ties and little else this year.
