His partner, the 17 year old de Ligt, was better in the final against us.

Sanchez looked similar to TFM for us - a great athlete but positioning and decision making a bit iffy. Like TFM he could go either way - improve those aspects and turn into a real monster, or not really improve and continue to be talked about as potential.

Of course, the final was literally the only match I've ever seen him (or de Ligt) play...

Looks like a decent prospect, if signed for spurs would be follow the likes of Wimmer, Fazio...?

He wont be a regular with Jan, Toby and even Dier playing CB.

30+mil for a bench warmer

It's a bit daft criticising Spurs for paying x amount for a 'bench warmer' when their lack of squad depth has been the point of discussion this summer.

Exactly "Spurs need to spend money or they will die!". Then when we're are going to it's like "PAH, whatca waste of money". Can't win at all.

Wimmer wants regular first team football and looks like we're gonna get £20M for a player we signed for less than £5M. Fazio was hardly a prospect, and really couldn't cope with the PL.

I think we will see less of Dier in defence and more in midfield. Going from what Ajax fans are saying, they see him as a massive prospect.

Whilst this isn't a bad signing as such its hardly awe inspiring is it?

Danny Rose wants top players. I think Spurs only need 1/2 signings but they need to be high end with plenty of European experience. He doesn't fit that criteria for me. Big money for someone who needs alot of development.

Danny Rose is going to be disappointed. Sanchez though is potentially a fantastic signing.

I doubt Levy or Pochettino - and certainly not me - gives a fig for what Rose wants. They have far more important criteria to consider when deciding who to try and sign.

I said this in the transfer tweet thread, I think this is a great buy from Spurs, Sanchez played well against us in the Europa League final. Quick, strong and a hard tackler, his passing isn't the best but not all defenders have the qualities like Rio had.

Young and talented defender with a lot of potential, really like the kid however we have players like TFM and Tuanzbe who are very similar.

Is Poch going to play with 3 at the back or does Sanchez really expect to knock either Alderweireld or Verthongen out of the team?

We should be all over this. Why is it Spurs always sign players where it's blatantly obvious of their quality for next to nothing. Just reminds me of when Alli came to OT and they signed him. Our scouts are shite.

Do you think he'd improve us significantly? From what I saw from him in the Europa league final, he was average on the ball.

He looks light years ahead of Lindelof (albeit early days), Smalling and blind. I don't often think wow, 'he looks some player' but I did with him and at such a young age.

No way you can justify buying him and Lindelof unless you sell Smalling and/or Jones.

So sell Smalling but we knew (or we should have done) prior to signing Lindelof. He's already so much better.

I remember Alli coming to OT and thought the same thing, we need to sign this lad and Spurs sign him, now it's happening again.

Really don't get the hype - I'm not saying he's rubbish but is a huge gamble on someone relatively untested at the top level. I also can't see him getting a lot of game time given how incredible Spurs have been defensively with the 2 CB combo.

The transfer is reminiscent of Martial's transfer given his youth and the high fee (I don't think most of us knew about him before last yr) but maybe looks normal after Neymar-gate.

To the poster above saying he looks 'Light years ahead of Lindeloff' - based on what?

Based on the that one time we saw him play in the EL final and our very successful game plan centered around letting him have the ball and do dumb things with it.

He has alot of physical talent for sure, but I think this is an investment which Spurs won't be expecting to see major returns on until next year and beyond. That's a fine strategy, though I think they really need to spend on a wide attacker and an additional RB as well. Easier said than done tbf.

I'll admit I've not seen much of Lindelof (basically preseason) and a couple of games after the january transfer window. I also know that the Swedish coach can't understand the hype and from what I've seen neither can I.

I've seen Sanchez in about half dozen games and in each one his tackle, pace and authority have impressed me, basically he's stood out. Something that Lindelof has never done, albeit in the limited games I've seen from both players.

So basically you don't watch both player enough. Half dozen games per season is like watching Cavani in CL then said he rubbish & can't score.

All I can say is we'll see. It's very rare I think wow what a player (about a relatively unknown) last time was Alli.

I respect your opinion so I agree that time will tel.. Just saying Alli is brilliant player when being utilized correctly. However, as a wow player, Alli ain't that special. He can make impact by scoring, assisting chance but he can go missing when it gets tough too.

Bloody hell, "Sanchez light years ahead of Lindelof" what a knee jerk reaction. Probably saw Sanchez for 90 mins and came up with that assessment.

Come on guys, I do like Sanchez and I think he is a good talent, but we can't purchase every talent out there for £40 million each.

Have a bit of faith and patience, as I said in a previous post we have players like TFM and Tuanzbe who are similar and who we should be given the chances to.

Regarding our scouting, of course our scouting is world class, quotes like "we should be all over this", "we have missed out you know" and "our scouts are shite, what do they do"

Are really annoying, grow up this is real life and not a video game.

he certainly would be a lot better option for the future than smalling or roco or indeed granny jones

Alli didn't play at OT, 40 plus million for a CB prospect is not next to nothing. We signed 22 year old Bailly for 30 Million, he had experience playing in La Liga against best players. Davinson Sanchez is just year younger than Bailly when we signed him.

Why only for the future. We need players to perform now to have better future. Just signing loads of young players won't work. We also have Tuanzebe who looked impressive everytime he played. We have young CB who is our best CB and he is just 23, 2 years older than Sanchez. Also Rojo is 27, plenty of years left in the tank at top level.

Seeing as Sanchez is costing £42m, I can only wonder at Bailly's valuation.

Cracking signing if it goes ahead. Guy is a monster with pace to burn. Will slot in nicely on the right side of the back free and allows the opportunity for rotation during the cause of a long season for Spurs

In the games I saw him last season in the Eredivise and EL, he looks like a real prospect, a CB in the Bailly mould. Good signing for Spurs if it works out.
Looked good in the EL Final, big, strong guy with some pace and useful on the ball.

Why aren't Liverpool after this guy, he has much higher potential than VVD and is cheap too for this window.

We have at least one young player that given regular football would look equally as good imo.

Sanchez is 18. He has plenty of time to break through and will have plenty of games to feature in considering Spurs are likely to play more than 50 this season.
