David Ornstein: Man Utd want to keep Marcus Rashford | Consideration of sale if Rashford wants to take on a new challenge or a substantial bid arrives

If a massive bid comes in for Marcus, forget about biting the hand off. Break out a shotgun and blow the whole arm off!

Ultimately - regardless of whether we think it benefits the team or club - surely he himself must see that he risks fading into obscurity if he can't find a way to motivate himself again.

It's not just a business transaction, Marcus as a human being and player should figure out whether his focus still lies with United or top footie in general.

Been away from the FF for a while, pretty me guess, are the same people still going off at him in this thread?

Not falling for these PSG links. Sadly he’s going nowhere.

Lots of talk on this forum about his desire and commitment. Lots of talk defending Rashfords desire and commitment because there are things us arm chair fans don’t know anything about. Ok fair enough

I can tell you what we do know about. His absolute shocking decision making throughout the game. Dribble, dribble, dribble…dispossessed. Dribble, dribble, dribble…shot from 30 yards. Lose possession. Don’t chase back. Avoid ariel challenges. Dribble, dribble, dribble…the pass is on. THE PASS IS ON….dispossessed.
This. If he was 17-23 then great we can see if he develops. But at his age sell for a great profit and improve the starting 11.

Very interested to see how Ineos handle Rashford. By all accounts Brailsford is a ruthless bastard. But that is a lot easier in cycling and harder to do in football, when a player can sit out a 4 year contract on ludricous money and there is nothing you can do about it.

Also the massive pressure from a fan base - I'm sure there is pressure but can't imagine it being at this level in cycling

A bit like Warnes’ quote about Monty Panesar. Rashford hasn’t played 400 games for United, he’s played the same game 400 times

A move is best for everyone. Is 70/80m achievable? I don't necessarily think he's worth that but PSG have long been admirers and now with a need to fill Mbappe's void

I highly doubt he is the type to go out to a new environment looking for a new tough challenge. He will not leave anytime soon

Has there been anything recently to say PSG is really after him? If they are selling Ugarte because Enrique doesn't think he fits their football, then I can't see how they'd bring in pace merchant Rashford. Honestly, I'd let him go for a nominal fee if it got him out and his wages out of our hair, and we didn't have to pay him any sort of “loyalty bonus.” - not that I think that’s going to happen, but we need to move on from him.

He always plays a lot better when Shaw is fit and he’s laying down the left with him. It’s no surprise he’s had struggled without a recognised left back for most of the season.

I think even if you dropped his fee to 50 mill you would find it hard to get any takers. His consistency is atrocious

Anybody surprised by the lack of talk or is it still too early?
Kind of early for this kind of deal if there are any interested parties. I highly doubt there are any considering his wages and the money Utd would demand for him.

Seeing him in the new kit video made me fecking depressed.

Contributed almost nothing last season and on huge wages.

He lacks the technical ability to play for a non counterattacking side. But i fear we are stuck with him thanks to idiotic people giving him the huge contract.

can we not get Rashford to get a blood transfusion from Bruno, maybe just maybe, a bit of Bruno in him can turn him into a young Rashford again i.e. one that would chase after everything like a demented blood hound
Funny you say that. There was a vid posted on the official site, perhaps at the start of last season, of Bruno on his own practicing shots while the other players were walking off, and Rashford jokingly said "I don't know where he finds the energy" or something along those lines. Obviously that was Rashford just off the back of a great season, so it definitely brought a smile to my face at the time.

You're extrapolating what we know of him to his "expected" behaviour.
Just because he pretends to jump for headers doesn't mean he wouldn't take the PSG "challenge".

I think he's burned out here and needs a change. What I think might be holding him back is he's not going to be anywhere as "big" as he is with United and in England.

Not the most reliable source perhaps, but potentially interesting:

@gol
: According to FCB sources, one of the names that Hansi Flick suggested for his only request (a left winger with goals and dribbling ability) was Marcus Rashford. I don't know if there has been any movement.

That will be 2 levers please.

That's his agent spouting usual rumors. Yawn

Would be a great move for us but I can’t see it happening.

They can't afford shit. They can have Antony if they like for a shilling

My last post left on this forum for today so I'll reply to anyone who replies to me tomorrow.

From what I can gather, by talking to people and reading stuff online, I think it's fair to say, more fans want Rashford sold. Personally, I keep changing my mind.

On one hand, he's a mature player now and should be hitting his peak. It gets frustrating watching him because clearly he is a very talented footballer and he's one of our own. The question is, should he be given more time? Because the truth is, he has had time.

I want to be careful how I word this, and I want everyone to know I'm saying this in the nicest way possible because it's a touchy subject but I think most posters on here are mature and will understand me. Personally, I feel his biggest problem is his mentality. I don't think he's a strong person, mentally. We have to remember, yes he's a multi millionaire in his mid 20s but, he's also a human being and hasn't had an easy childhood which he probably hasn't been able to mature tough mentally since or because of that. I think he also had a close friend who passed away and found it hard to cope with. And wouldn't? Some people can, yes.

On the other hand - he's an important player at Manchester United - how much time or lee-way should players have, to perform at the highest level, no matter what is happening in their lives. I'm sure there's hundreds of top players over the years who suffered mentally but didn't let it affect their performances or their form.

I am NOT comparing myself to Rashford but I want to give one comparison. I run a small business and I suffered very bad mentally for a period of time and I almost lost my business - but - people around me picked me up, we made a plan, and one day I woke up to the realisation I'm on the verge of having to close my business and I snapped out of the mental state I was in and I worked like a dog and thankfully 6 years later my business is now thriving. Business and sport at the highest levels are completely different but my point is, at what point does the person just have to help themselves? It is up to Rashford to sort himself out.

And I want to say - I TRULY hope he does. Rashford is a good person and he has a good heart. After the FA Cup final you could see how emotional he was. He didn't know if that was his last game for United and also that week it was announced he wasn't picked for England at the euros. And the media made more attention out of that than players that were picked. But, that's part of being a big player, at a big club.

Rashford loves the club we love, we desperately want to see him succeed because he really is one of our own. He's 27 next month, and will be at the club 20 years. Manchester United is all he knows and I think that also gets the better of him. I think he needs to be loved. I think he needs to learn how to be a little more adaptive when other players that he plays well with aren't playing. We all know he plays so much better with Shaw but sadly, Shaw has injury problems. I don't think he's overhyped, I really think he is an exceptional talent.

I think there could be people around Rashford that are there for him but don't really help him. I think Gary Neville might have said this last year.

Again, I don't want anyone to think I'm being harsh when it comes to mental health. I just think that's affecting him when it comes to his performances.

He's not going anywhere this season, I hope he picks up form this season and I hope his best years at United are ahead of him because, there is time for that but that is down to him.

He's strong in many ways, stepping up to take the PSG penalty took balls and he carried United during that 4 or 5 month spell two seasons ago.

Where he is weak is physical duels. If you watch his off the ball positioning, he's constantly making sure he's close but just not quite close enough to make that tackle. He's afraid of the physical side to the game and he doesn't have enough aggression in his head to turn that around I don't believe. If someone like Barella had a back injury like Rashford did, he has enough anger and desire in him to fight through that and get back to fighting on the pitch but Rashford doesn't.

He'll have brief spells where things work out and he gets a few goals/assists but I dont think he'll never be the world class player we hoped he'd be.
