My last post left on this forum for today so I'll reply to anyone who replies to me tomorrow.
From what I can gather, by talking to people and reading stuff online, I think it's fair to say, more fans want Rashford sold. Personally, I keep changing my mind.
On one hand, he's a mature player now and should be hitting his peak. It gets frustrating watching him because clearly he is a very talented footballer and he's one of our own. The question is, should he be given more time? Because the truth is, he has had time.
I want to be careful how I word this, and I want everyone to know I'm saying this in the nicest way possible because it's a touchy subject but I think most posters on here are mature and will understand me. Personally, I feel his biggest problem is his mentality. I don't think he's a strong person, mentally. We have to remember, yes he's a multi millionaire in his mid 20s but, he's also a human being and hasn't had an easy childhood which he probably hasn't been able to mature tough mentally since or because of that. I think he also had a close friend who passed away and found it hard to cope with. And wouldn't? Some people can, yes.
On the other hand - he's an important player at Manchester United - how much time or lee-way should players have, to perform at the highest level, no matter what is happening in their lives. I'm sure there's hundreds of top players over the years who suffered mentally but didn't let it affect their performances or their form.
I am NOT comparing myself to Rashford but I want to give one comparison. I run a small business and I suffered very bad mentally for a period of time and I almost lost my business - but - people around me picked me up, we made a plan, and one day I woke up to the realisation I'm on the verge of having to close my business and I snapped out of the mental state I was in and I worked like a dog and thankfully 6 years later my business is now thriving. Business and sport at the highest levels are completely different but my point is, at what point does the person just have to help themselves? It is up to Rashford to sort himself out.
And I want to say - I TRULY hope he does. Rashford is a good person and he has a good heart. After the FA Cup final you could see how emotional he was. He didn't know if that was his last game for United and also that week it was announced he wasn't picked for England at the euros. And the media made more attention out of that than players that were picked. But, that's part of being a big player, at a big club.
Rashford loves the club we love, we desperately want to see him succeed because he really is one of our own. He's 27 next month, and will be at the club 20 years. Manchester United is all he knows and I think that also gets the better of him. I think he needs to be loved. I think he needs to learn how to be a little more adaptive when other players that he plays well with aren't playing. We all know he plays so much better with Shaw but sadly, Shaw has injury problems. I don't think he's overhyped, I really think he is an exceptional talent.
I think there could be people around Rashford that are there for him but don't really help him. I think Gary Neville might have said this last year.
Again, I don't want anyone to think I'm being harsh when it comes to mental health. I just think that's affecting him when it comes to his performances.
He's not going anywhere this season, I hope he picks up form this season and I hope his best years at United are ahead of him because, there is time for that but that is down to him.
