David Ornstein: Man Utd want to keep Marcus Rashford | Consideration of sale if Rashford wants to take on a new challenge or a substantial bid arrives

It's time to part ways I don't know how this is even a discussion. He's just as much a representation of bad times as Martial was.

Martial barely even got on the pitch for a few years, so you can't put Rashford in the same category.

Because he was injured, I don't know what you're trying to say. Rashford has gotten on the pitch and has been so lazy he can't even get in the England squad when he's more talented and more favoured than other players.

A trait that I see a lot on here is bad comprehension skills when it comes to simple things. I'm not even joking, it's scary.
Hahahaha, that’s a revealing response in and of itself. Ignore the actual issue with poor humour. I’m articulate enough when the situation warrants.

It's pretty doubtful Martial has been so injured he couldn't be involved for those long long spells. His commitment was shocking.
Whereas Rashy has never been that way, even if his last season was poor.

Spot on.

One thing you can never say about Rashford is he lacked commitment. If anything, almost the opposite. He played with injuries far too often and probably needed a stronger manager to take him out of the firing line for his own protection.

Literally, the only similarity between the two is they're both black attacking players.

So Rashford hardly breaking sweat on field and ignoring his defensive duties is sign of commitment as well , kind of excuses we make for players we like is something .

Just to add Martial is actually on record stating he played with injuries regularly under Solskjaer as well .

So we should abuse players as a means of motivation?

The racial abuse is unacceptable but I don’t see football fans, even at the likes of Fulham exchange boos for encouraging words when a player half asses a high press.

Abuse is always condemnable. Its immoral and counterproductive. However defending the player at every turn and no matter what is also damaging. It makes players look weak minded + it gives the impression that they can do whatever they want and still get away with it. Phil Brown is a classic example to what I am saying. Some of his latest arguments in Rashford defense are 'I know things about Rashford that you don't know and I would never tell you' and 'the team was given the impression that they would sign Harry Kane' Both arguments are incredibly childish and stink of hypocrisy especially considering that he doesn't extend that same level of courtesy with the likes of ETH and Antony. You start wondering why is it the case and what makes Sancho/Rashford different from Antony/ETH. Is it down to them being British? Is it the case that some players are closer to Phil's ear then others? This is the sort of damage certain journalists/former players/youtubers and to a lower extent fans do to players when they defend people irrespective what they do. This is not restricted to just Sancho/Rashford btw. The same happens with ETH's fanboys (ex Goldbridge) for example

You don't see this sort of drama at Real, City or SAF's Man United. Highly paid first teamers are expected to produce 7/10 performances on a regular basis there. Fans need to go past gimmicks like players kissing the badge. What truly matters is what happens on the pitch. We also need to embrace that not everyone is cut to play football at the highest level and that's not down to only talent but also attitude.

Didn't you notice Rashford jogging throughout most of last season?

And I don't care about Martial TBH. In my opinion he should have been pushed out of the door long ago

Amazing the lengths people will go to to defend players who do not deserve defending.

You haven’t watched much of Rashford , he’s one of the laziest players in the squad.

His commitment is very hit and miss and when it’s bad (as it has been this season), it’s awful!

As for injuries, if he’d taken the op instead of playing for England at a previous tournament, we wouldn’t have lost him for a couple of months… just so he could play 18 seconds for Southgate.

A good player with an average (recently) attitude.

It’s fine to say he’s been poor lately, because he obviously has. But the lengths some fans go to to slag off their own players amazes me. This forum feels like a Twitter feed at times.
Tends to happen when a player doesn’t like running.

I think he needs a change of scenery as much as we need to replace him.

He seems uninterested most of the time, a few of his friends (Lingard, Pogba, Sancho) are all elsewhere now. A fresh start will do him some good.

The issue is who is going to pay a large fee + the wages? The obvious one is PSG but it seems like they've got their transfer strategy in order these days.

Rashford will come good. For me he was the victim this season of a system that asked far too much of him. And so he got exhausted and demoralised. Playing in front of a strong midfield with a better left full back will make a huge difference.

That said, he isn't much of a presser so he will have to learn, once the environment improves.

The problem with Rashford I find is he always finds a way of becoming exhausted and demotivated. I has happened under Jose, Ole and now Ten Hag.

There comes a point where he has to be able to motivate himself, considering what he thinks of himself. He has to be the leader of the team, he is paid as a leader, valued as one and its up to him to be able to show this.

We can all say he needs better players but also, he needs to help the team, which he doesn't, he will not sacrifice himself for the team's bettermeant. Meaning, during games where we need him to track, press and suffer.

Mostly I look forward to his rock bottom price on FPL again. If we can get him going he’ll be a major asset. I feel like if he pulls the same stunt next season he’ll be gone next summer. It’s a win win for me as I’ve no emotional attachment to the player. I just want players who ALWAYS give their all.

It's true he can come across as is a bit of a luxury player when the chips are down. But in the right system he scores goals for fun. It's no good moaning that he has less character than Harry Maguire. If Maguire is on the pitch it means something has gone very badly wrong upstream. That's what we should concentrate on fixing. Let's make sure the chips aren't down.

So he why didn't he learn to press this season just gone? The environment improving isn't going to make someone better at pressing, that just comes down to a player taking responsibility of their own performances.

If he's a 'victim of the system' what's going to change with him to not be a victim this season?

Scouse victim logic.

Just don’t see how this is true when other players are not getting the same courtesy, he had a poor season and needs to rectify that, he’s paid to be a leader/star of this team and is currently not delivering on that.

Hopefully he can be the player we want him to be next season or we should look to move him on, for ours and his sake.

I dont get the reference to Maguire, I didn't mention him.

Also, you would be very naive in thinking during a season the chips wont be down during the best of seasons.

The problem is, whenever the chips are down, he is the worst footballer to have, he offers nothing. Its up to him as a leader and player been paid so much to make sure chips are not down.

Instead, he moans and puts his hands in the air, when he cant pass, press or show fight.

He was being carried by the team for large parts of the season. Jogging and sulking didn't help either. Perhaps there may be an underlying mental issue with him?

Sulking players when the chips are down is the reverse of the kind of attitude that Fergie looked for and demanded. Keane would tear them a new one. Fergie would dish out the hairdryer. It’s a club with working class roots in a working class city. Effort and discipline goes a long way even in the absence of high talent. Enough with these low standards.

I wanted rid two years ago. Then he had a great season - new manager bounce. Last year there was no effort. He didn’t seem so keen on being asked to press. He was passed over for England. Time to part ways.

I don't know if Rashford paid you to say this or if you're high, but lack of commitment and effort is why we're here today. Do you think he'll start Engalnds next game? No, why? Because his lack of commitment and effort finally caught up with him. Martial and Rashford both had different injuries. You're hardly going to see a player playing for weeks on end with muscle injuries. If a player can play with an injury you have to question if it's a real injury or a standard knock. Most players are constantly carrying around knocks as part of the game.

He’s an academy lad. Would fix a lot of funding restrictions etc

Yeah, I think it's time to move on - for player and club, and I'd love it if we got a suitable offer, but I highly doubt we will. Especially not at the wages he's at and the performances he's put in.

The only club who can afford him and who has a gap at LWF is PSG.

If he had done enough to stay in England squad and got some time at the euros; PSG may have been interested. As it is, I cannot see any interest coming on for him, so we need to get the best we can out of him.

Everything you say is true. But I think he will turn a well organised team into title winners. That's worth a lot.

I think he'd do well in Paris provided he adapts to the culture. Luckily the French are big on sulking.

Yeah, cannot see any suitable offers come in for him myself, either.
How much is a suitable offer? I said we should have cashed in on him after he scored 30 goals, but now he's worth close to half of what he was worth in that season.
