David Luiz set to become world's most expensive defender

My guess is that Thaigo Silva are best mates and he is been telling the board to get Luiz. And the board is complying to keep one of their best players happy.

Best buds them two!

PSG fans seem to think the price is too much & that Thiago Silva wanted him so their chairman went out and sorted it to keep him happy.

They don't seem too happy with it at all considering they think it'll mean Marquinhos is benched/off & that there's a bigger chance Alex could leave who's apparently been their best defender this season.

Had a quick look at some PSG boards. Some fans are more concerned about sticking two fingers up at FFP than they are about signing Luiz; and some think this deal has Thiago Silva's fingerprints all over it.

French media saying its in € and not £. So just above £40m. Still astronomical.

So the two players who Chelsea swear they werent offering to United for Rooney last summer have/are being sold for as much money as possible. Thats convenient.

What a crazy deal this is

Is that picture actually both of them?

I don't think anyone here is denying he is decent enough as versatile enough to be a target for certain teams if he's available. But it's that price tag... I just cannot understand it. Forget FFP.Forget everything. Just think:

1) is he better than every single defender? Better still, at 27, even remotely value for money when you think of the age and price of defenders who went for much less?

2) even if he plays DM, he still isn't worth it.

3) what makes me curious most is how it got to this? The sudden break of this story suggests PSG went in at roughly this amount. Chelsea Would have surely accepted much less.

Baffling stuff, this.

To your 3rd point, the price is probably so high and came out of nowhere because there are rumored to be a couple of other big clubs after him. Maybe they got word that Barca or Bayern were poised to make their moves so PSG came in and acted quickly with a ludicrous offer to blow them out of the water.

Jesus I would have taken £30m for him, I think he's wank personally. £50m whatever you think of his ability is insane.

But even then... It's hard to fathom.

Carroll, Fellaini, Torres were all bad. But this is truly comparable to a place in transfer cock up history reserved for the Ibrahimovic deal for Barca when they traded Eto'o and ludicrous cash!

Even 30m. We are talking a price at 30m which matches Thiago silva, arguably the best CB in the world right now when he was YOUNGER. And Ferdinand who was still young.

I wouldn't take the fecker for a fiver. Let alone £50 million. Awful player, awful person. What a deal Chelsea are getting here. Mourinho must be buzzing.

This is quite possibly the most baffling transfer deal ever imagined. It's actually incredible. I'll go as far as suggesting Andy Carroll made that little bit more sense at the time. Football gone mad.

He's a twat. Elbows everywhere, a bit like our own Fellaini. Comes with the hair I guess.

It doesn't make him an awful person though. Generally people would say Drogba and Bellamy are/were absolute arseholes on the pitch but their unsung charity work speaks volumes for their true character.

It makes that transfer involving Eto and Ibrahimovic and a whopping sum look almost sane.

£48m for a defender who the vast majority of us think Is a bit sh!T at the actual defending part. My word.

Have they done this merely to shove one up the arse of the financial fair play mob?

The mind boggles. Not the best CB at Chelsea, not one of the best CBs in the PL, not one of the best defenders in the world. £48m. I'm genuinely in shock. Absolutely mad!!

£48m

All you can do is . Then you realize that Chelsea will probably use that cash and throw it at a world class midfielder and :(.

who cares...maybe not suited to the PL, but PSG, Barca and Bayern all want him and he does a decent job for Brazil
