David Luiz set to become world's most expensive defender

I saw this story in a gossip page with the source being the sun. Immediately disregarded it as clear bullshit.

It's like PSG want to get rid off as much money as possible. FFP needs to step up it's punishments on a big big scale.

who cares...maybe not suited to the PL, but PSG, Barca and Bayern all want him and he does a decent job for Brazil

He might do well in France, mainly because the league is junk but I just find the whole things strange.

If they get thrown out of the CL, which at this rate I hope they do, then all they have to play for is the domestic trophies in France and this whole signing players for crazy money will be deemed pointless.

Officially agreed terms.

I wonder what they'd have paid for Janzaj...

The mind boggles. Not the best CB at Chelsea, not one of the best CBs in the PL, not one of the best defenders in the world. £48m. I'm genuinely in shock. Absolutely mad!!

Surely they've noticed he wasn't even getting into Chelsea's centre back pairing!

Madness. I think he's better than most give him credit for, and has already shown for Brazil that he has some talent, but £48m? Insane.

not our problem though is it

If David fecking Luiz sells for £48m then Hazard will surely go for £70m or more if/when PSG try to sign him.

Though José has said he's building the team around him so I doubt he'll be going anywhere.

Lampard and Cole going too today right? Obviously some of this was expected, but will be a very different looking team next season. Surprised the club's going to sanction that much change in one go
They are no different to us. We lost three legends/experienced stars.

I bet they can't believe their luck, he's not even worth half that. No brainer for Chelsea.

We need to make a little brochure featuring Young and Fellaini and mail to PSG. You never know what might happen.

Fair fecks to Chelsea. Sanctioning the sales they have recently means they easily comply with FFP regulations while having an enormity of cash at their disposal to really address their weaknesses.

With all that's happening in regards to transfers at Chelsea and with Mourinho sides notoriously being a lot stronger in the second season, I expect them to win the title next season.

Also remember at the start of the season when Chelsea apparantly offered us Luiz or Mata plus cash for Rooney? Ruled out as nonsense by many at the time but a year on and it doesn't seem as strange.

Quality player, will work well with Silva. Perhaps PSG are selling players hence their confidence spending so much...

Only we were bidding in a low 20s for Rooney. We sold Mata few months later for 37m, and now Luiz for 48m. Why would we offer either plus cash for the player we thought we could get for 20 something pounds?

Imagine Chelsea will just use Ivanovic as their spare CB along with Kalas and move Azpilicueta to his favoured position at RB.

Actually cannot believe my eyes, at the same point this is highly frustrating. I know we have no manager, but Chelsea are once again nailing business early, and efficiently. This news only broke this morning and it's done before the end of the day.

I don't think you expected to get Rooney for around £20m pounds, it seemed like more of a ploy to see if United were willing to do business. We told you to feck off so maybe as a last resort you were willing to involve a player in exchange.

Mata maybe, but surely you couldn't have expected so much for Luiz anyway.

I think the fact he is prone to a few bungles clouds peoples judgement as on his game( in midfield) he is a top player, he totally bossed City and Liverpool this season and can be a game changer.

Problem is in defence he is liable, but any club that can get around this problem has an excellent player, who is also a leader on the pitch, but I still dont think hes worth no more than 30 million in my opinion.

They're just getting back around what they paid for him aren't they? £21m + Matic, and they bought Matic back for around £21m so it's pretty close to that £48m figure. They weren't going to sell him on a loss.

Most amazing thing is that two teams have essentially paid £40m+ for David Luiz.

That's not quite how it works now is it? When they used Matic as part exchange, he was nowhere near the player he is today and he wouldn't have become that player had he not made the switch to Benfica.

rubbish...matic is a separate deal but if you want to go down that route, then the Mata deal paid for matic
