Huge fee but he may go on to be one of the stars of the World Cup.

Off the top of my head the Carroll and Fellaini were more insane fees.

In fairness Chelsea paid Benfica £24m + Matic for Luiz.

They ended up spending £21m buying Matic back so the overall cost of the Luiz transfer to Chelsea was £45m, they wouldn't even be breaking even if they get £40m for him.

It was 21m plus Matic.

SSN breaking news saying he's away to PSG for £50m. feck me

Confirmed on SSN. 50M for Luiz and 37M for Mata. They've just made 80 plus million on two players they didn't want. Mourinho must be laughing.

Unfortunately, this could mean Chelsea will now get Luke Shaw. :(

Holy shit! It may actually be £50m!

:lol::lol: < Jose Mourinho right now

Anything between £40-50m is ridiculously good business for Chelsea.

PSG.

They've bought an average player and they have no intention of complying with FFP anytime soon.

HAHAHA jesus wept PSG are literally taking no notice of FFP will they be eligible to play him in the CL?

Mourinho now...

And De Bruyne who they got 16m for back in January. Basically getting back 100m on 3 players that were not his cuppa tea.

Mutually-arranged money-laundering.

Bloody hell, this + Mata sale + Ashley Cole leaving means that Chelsea are going to spend big this summer.

Football has gone off the scale.

noodlehair on David Luiz:
It's like what I'd imagine owning a raccoon as a pet to be like. You keep telling yourself "this is amazing", as it yet again rips apart your kitchen in the midst of doing whatever the feck it wants.

They'll be posting record profits for their club too. Mourinho said they were capable of spending huge on a single player without even selling anyone. Imagine how big they can spend now with Luiz, Cole, and likely Torres off their books. Also like you say, money left from Mata and De Bruyne sales.

Wonder if PSG might be interested in a young, English midfielder named Tom Cleverly. How's £40m sound?

Well thats that then, the transfer market is completely bonkers now. If David Luiz is 50m then Hummels will be 60+ and there we are letting Ferdinand and Vidic go on frees. Haha we relly are screwed. That 150m looks like wed be lucky to get 3 players of the quality we need.

Slow clap for PSG everyone.

Also Kroos to Chelsea anyone?

I'm actually speechless. I can only imagine the negotiations:

Agent: So, we want to sign Luiz.
Mourinho: Deal.
Agent: You know, the player you don't even need...
Mourinho: Deal!
Agent: The player who's not even among the 10-15 best players in the world in his position.
Mourinho: DEAL!
Agent: We're willing to offer 50 million, but no more! My dad told me to be strict in these negotiations, hehe...
Mourinho: Hmm... When you say it like that I'm gonna have to... DEAL GODDAMMIT!

This is the most ridiculous football transfer I've probably ever heard, and that's saying something. Definitely something fishy going on here.

PSG will now have the three most expensive CB's in the world, and all are Brazilian. :nervous:

If he's going for £50m, then why aren't we

Who we kidding, there never was a £150-200m transfer kitty.

Cavani to Chelsea, maybe? It's the only way this makes even a modicum of sense. David Luiz is such an average footballer.

The owner wasn't kidding when he said these FFP notices weren't going to affect their transfer activity and he was going to get who he wanted no matter what.

He's a very good footballer, just a terrible defender. May not matter much in France, though.

How do Chelsea manage to get good fees for their players?

The English clubs need to find more owners of this ilk and sell sell sell......make hay while the sun shines

You know what? I'm not a fan of these conspiracy theories, but I think you're onto something. This transfer doesn't make sense, no matter how I look at it.

PSG doesn't have a defensive crisis, the transfer deadline is still far away, and there are probably 10-15 better centerbacks they could have gotten for that price(or significantly cheaper).

Great deal for Chelsea.

We're lucky that they don't need a left back and that Luke Shaw isn't a lifelong Chelsea fan or else they'd have the cash to blow us out of the water...

...oh wait.

Technically I don't think he's all that great, either. He just looks better because you don't see many CBs running with the ball.
