David De Gea

I think it's in the CL we'd really feel his loss. A Mourinho defence could probably protect a weaker keeper just fine against most PL teams but in games against the best of Europe having a keeper of DDG's quality could be the difference between getting knocked out and going through.

Neur couldn't save Bayern from being eliminated by RM despite all the saves he made in both matches, because RM were much better overall. GK isn't everything in the current era of football.

Beside, we'll strengthen our defense and get a good keeper, too , no doubt.

Casimiro, kroos, varane and maybe carvajal. We should insist on one of them depending in our other transfer plans.

Modric if madrid value him at less than 15 million is acceptable too.

Minimum valuation is 70 pounds. We should try to get more.

Mourinho isn't going to sign an 18 year old to be his number one.

Didn't he drop Cudicini to play Cech?

Which was a bold move at the time as Cudicini was one of their star performers.

Well his latest Instagram story confirms it's definitely his garden in the photos. Which means nothing

Assuming we manage to persuade Real Madrid to part with their best midfielder (plus cash!) in exchange for a goalkeeper, what makes you think Madrid could persuade Kroos to be included in such a (humiliating) deal?
Maybe otherwise there is no De Gea deal then? And that's probably the outcome United is waiting for?

Isn't De Gea contracted for another 3 years ? If so then we stand strong unless we get an offer we're coming out best in which would mean Bale, Kroos or Varane included in any deal.

Exactly, we are in the position of strength this time, feck them!

In exchange for our world class 2nd best in the world goal keeper, A transfer to be successul needs 3 or 4 parties to agree to mutually. If you want to buy world's second best keeper you got to pay the price for it , as simple as that.

We agreed with kroos to come to united before madrid went for him until LVG vetoed the idea for his favourite schweinsteiger who could play in his philosophy.

Which part of it will actually be humiliating? We are the world biggest club with a top project with history and a top manager.

Yeah because the ref decided to neglect the offside goals. the game could have very well gone to penalties or bayern could have won in the end with 11 men on the pitch.

Gk isnt everything than why does madrid ant to replace navas?

I don't really want to change the direction of the thread to discussing this game but Bayern got an incorrect penalty and and an offside goal so without the ref help, too, they wouldn't have even reached the extra-time to start with. Rewatch their second goal and you'll see it's a clear offside. The match could have easily ended in the 90 minutes for RM.

I'm not Perez so why ask me, go and ask him. What I saw is RM won a CL and are marching to win another one this year with Navas who is an average and inconsistent GK, while Bayern are struggling to even reach the final even though they had the best GK in the world.

I'm not saying GKs have no role at all. Don't be silly, it's still an important position but it's not everything. Having a complete team helps you compete for CL as RM is doing, having only a superhuman GK without a great team won't move you to CL final on his own.

He's not, he's a very good keeper, DDG is better, but not by much. The only reason Madrid want DDG is because they're run like a circus. He's better than Navas, yes, but they'd have to cough up upwards of 60m+ to sign DDG. It's not worth it at all considering he isn't that much better than Navas, but that's how Madrid works.

I suppose they want him because he's now Spain's number one. It's telling that most Madrid fans I've come across aren't even arsed about DDG, most are of the opinion they'd be happy to continue with Navas and don't think DDG is as big an upgrade to warrant the cash it'd cost.

He's inconsistent, though. I watched some games for them when he appears as a great GK who can save anything. In another matches he made really silly mistakes that he shouldn't have done. But even when mistaking he's not hurting the team much as they have the quality to compensate.

Agree with the rest.

Bayern never got an offside goal , muller was not offside when the ball was played. Goal keepers are important in knockout trournaments, If buffon dint save the barcelona goal bound efford in the first leg of the tie the game would have been much more different with the away goal. Small little details.

And bayern missed the penalty so justice was done naturally.

I'd say 100 m euros including performance based addones.

That's not how much he'll go for. If DDG hands in a transfer request (which is the only way I see him leaving) the club will sell him for around 60. There is no chance any club is going to buy a keeper for a world record transfer. It'd be nice, but not happening. Especially considering he hasn't been as good as he has been in the past this season.

Regardless, if he is leaving I hope it's early in the window so we can move on and get replacements in early.

Lewa was the one offside.

I'm not saying again that GKs are useless but they aren't everything, either. Juve passed Barca because they have a great team who put 3 goals past them + having a great defense who conceded zero goals in 180 + Buaffon saving that shot, not only because of Buaffon. A Superman GK won't save you all the time if you aren't strong enough. That doesn't mean GKs are useless at all.

Hope you understand my point.

But seriously 60 m pounds is a joke , in the mordern era of market for a player of genuine quality, It shows our transfer market inefficiencies , A price perez would pay smirk on their faces with a satisfaction that they have again mugged us with a world class player for such a bargain.

Even Courtouis will not be sold for not lesser than 70 m pounds by chelsea with no added lure of spain no 1 with huge marketing potential .

A proper business club would bite the apple with a Mouth as wide open as he can. a 70 - 75 , pounds plus 5- 10 m addones is not a hige asking price considering this market where even kids have 100 m release clauses and we pay 110 m for our own former player who still have a lot to develop compared to a keeper who has reached his top potential.

But the ball was not played towards lewandowski , it was played to and controlled by muller.

That will lead to changing the direction of the thread to that match while it's about De Gea. :D so let's agree to disagree on this point.

I'm in the minority it seems, but De Gea getting sold for 60 mil. wouldn't be nice at all. It would be different if he's out of contract. But selling one of the best Manchester United players for a song just doesn't sit right. If I were in charge, I don't believe I'd sell him for even twice that amount.

I get what you're saying but of course he is still special. Doesn't matter how good your defence is. If you want to play in the champions league again and face the best attacks in the world - it's much better to have the best goalkeeper in the world at your back...

Firstly , I am not really convinced he is and secondly , teams win matches , not players , even if you are Messi as we saw vs Juve .

Ye it would be, but I don't see us fetching anymore than that, especially if he hands in a transfer request. If he wants to leave, forcing him to stay and risking him becoming unsettled etc. won't be good for any parties involved. It's obvious he's thinking about his girlfriend and wants to be closer to her, family always comes first.

I wouldn't sell him for any price either, but if he did want to leave, I would understand why and I'm sure the club will too. Hopefully if he does, we can bring in a good replacement.

Yes, if he wants to leave, he goes. But it's got to be more than 60 mil.

Am I the only one baffled that Madrid still want De Gea? Yes he's an outstanding keeper, but Navas has been excellent lately, and Zidane's back four would be pretty used to playing in front of him by now. And if they have to throw Kroos into the bargain, they're losing an incredibly key midfield player and getting a high quality keeper, which they already have. Seems like nonsensical business to me. It's not even like De Gea is that marketable.

If DDG leaves, as long as we can solve our defensive lines, good keeper like Navas is enough...

However, currently, we could not rely on current defensive lines...

CB : Rojo is over, Smalling-Jones are injury prone, Bailly is still green, others lad even greener...
RB : Valencia will be aging, Darmian is ok, but i don't think defensively solid
LB : Young is just temporary employee and will be aging, Shaw...MEH...
DM : Hererra is not DM, more like CM, Carrick will be fossiled soon, Pogba is CM...so-so in attack or defense...

RM can have De Gea, but give us Varane and Casemiro....

I don't understand why people want Navas. He is inconsistent and I think he'd rather stay there as a bench player than come here. He said he cried all night when he was going to come here last time around. I don't want players like that at the club.

If we are going to sell De Gea, we should ask for one of their big hitters in exchange or take them to cleaners (100m quids or more), simple as that.

There are plenty of good GKs in the PL. We could go for someone like Schmeichel, Butland or Pickford. They are as good if not better than Navas.

I wouldn't sell him, we hold all the cards and our position is stronger this time. He still has 3 years left on his contract and let's not forget next year is a World Cup year. If he hands in a transfer request, we'll just sit him on the bench for next season and I'm sure Dave wouldn't want to risk that.

Wow.. nice evaluation of the squad.

Wondering where were you during Fergie years.

Huge difference between 18 and 22. One is a teen and another is a fairly young adult.
Depends where they stand in their career. We bought a very young DDG and he did well enough. I agree, 18 is young, but Donnaruma is way above any other 18 year old.
I'd love us to buy him if DDG leaves. If we swap players, we should only accept a top class player form RM. Navas shouldnt be an option

Don't apply logic to Real Madrid. But I don't think they will player swap a first 11 player only offloading ones the don't want whilst improving their GK position. Plus it's a bit of a statement towards the English Premiership as in we will take who we want.

That's not realistic, many kids dream of playing for Real. They're the most successful team in the history of football.

As for De Gea, even if he leaves in the summer it didn't exactly turn out badly for us did it? We found a reliable GK to replace Van Der Sar. He stayed here for 6 years which is like half a career. We bought him for £18m and we're likely to sell him for a world record fee for a GK, or a massive profit at least.

Given the choice, would you not do it all over again? I would.
depends on who the replacement is. Probably be Tom Heaton or someone

You made valid points but I'd sell him for the right price, something around 100k, not less! Why would we sell our best player for peanuts when he still has 3 years on his contract? If I was Ed I'd tell David and Madrid to match our asking price or they can feck off! We do hold all the power now.

Doubt we will get the 100 mil some of you are hoping for or cash plus a player. I'll be suprised if we get more than 60mil GBP to be honest.

I think Leno might be a good option for us and won't be as expensive as Oblak or Donnaruma
