David De Gea

As if Bale or Kroos want to leave Madrid for us. This isn't football manager.

Not bale and but varane modric casemiro or kroos . Mourinho brought varane to madrid and he has french teams mates here

he is gone after the season. its fine we have romero who is as good (blasphemy). hopefully we will get at least 30 million for him and use it for a CB or a partner for pogba in midfield

Why are poeple so pessimistic all of the sudden? As far as I can see, apart from one outlet, there hadn't been anything regarding his future and yet the general tone of this thread is that as if he has already moved.
Nope it's a sure thing. People here have said so.

Anyone else think that the fax machine story is just crap and that we just didnt want to sell to that annoying club for once that time?

We actually sell players for decent fees now - should be closer to 50 million euros.

One thing that we could offer Varane is a lot of money. He went to Real early and on very modest wages which he still is comparatively. We offered to double his wages last Summer, no doubt we could add another few million to his deal this Summer.

I think Kroos and Modric have both "made their money" in a way, and staying at Madrid gives them a better chance of Champions League glory etc so hard to see them swapping that for coming here.

We won't be using Romero as first choice even if De Gea leaves. We will invest in a new goalkeeper and probably a very expensive one - Donnarumma, Butland, Oblak etc.

why do most people think Donnaruma will leave Milan to come to us ? There are more chances of him going to Juve and replacing Buffon in a year or two. Kasper Schmeichel/Leno/Butland would be ideal replacements if DDG were to leave...

I'd like Schmeichel, especially to see the look on big petes face on his debut, tears would be flowing. I think Kasper would step his game up too knowing that he is playing at the same level as his dad did.

Why on earth are some of you happy to let De Gea go and have Romero as no.1? Shocking.

De Gea is the best in the world. I'd pay anything to keep him here and would rather see absolutely anyone else leave the club ahead of him.

Agreed, but would add Schmeichel to that

DDG will not force a move to Real. He is already the highest paid keeper in the world, he has signed a new contract recently. His manager is Jose Mourinho. It will not be a walk in a park for Madrid to get David from us. They will have to cough up a lot of money to satisfy Woody, Mourinho, DDG and his agent.

Because Romero played well in a couple of games. It's how it works on here.

we obviously want him to stay but if he does leave, like many posters have said, he isn't irreplaceable

It would ruin my summer if big Dave leaves us. A world class keeper is the difference between titles/trophies and near misses. He's our best player; simple as that. Who would we replace him with - the young kid at Milan? He'd need time.

lol Romero has been solid for a few games but he's got a massive mistake in him. Replacing de gea isn't simple.

I'm not talking about Romero being number 1. Ddg is no. 1 in the world so we are never going to get someone better, we can get someone close to his level though in Oblak, Butland if he returns from his injury with good form or even Schmeichel who has been superb this and last season. neither of those are big Dave but he isn't irreplaceable unlike when we sold Ronaldo to Madrid

I wouldn't lose any sleep at all if DDG had signed that contract that was on the table for almost a year before did but it was the circumstances inwhich he signed it that give reasonable apprehension.

There was no winner other than Real Madrid if DDG had run down his contract completely and we were forced to play him in the reserves etc in a Schweinsteiger style situation. Made sense for him to take the big pay increase for now, keep playing 1st team football and keep his international position as Spain's number 1 while we retained our best player, and likely negotiated an increased buy out clause if certain clubs come knocking.

I'm not delusional enough to think that his dream move to Madrid ended forever in those few minutes at the end of the transfer window, more than likely they told him to plug away here and they'll be back some day.

Butland isn't near as good as Donnarumma or Oblak, I doubt that we would consider him. Donnarumma is the only one who wouldn't be a massive downgrade (at least talent wise).
Agreed, but would add Schmeichel to that
Why? He's neither that good, nor that young. I would actually prefer Romero to him.

Being happy to replace the best 'keeper in the world with a mediocre reserve 'keeper shows what low standards you have.

I go with the Fergie method: if you want to leave, then leave, we'll be ok without you.

Your heart has to be in it.

Romero would jump at the chance to prove himself as first choice keeper.

I think many people are forgetting that DDG make a few mistakes which cost us early in the season. It isn't like he's been outstanding this season.

Don't be ridiculous, just because we've been better defensively and he hadn't had as many saves to make as previous seasons doesn't make him less impressive.

He's easily worth 12-15 points a season over a Mignolet level goal keeper and was the major factor in any of the success LVG had here.

To the people who watch Sevilla regularly, what would you think of Sergio Rico as de Gea's replacement? Perhaps @jojojo @prarek ?
As you would expect he would be a step down. He's very talented but not there yet. He does let in soft goals every now and then. Like the other week he make a mistake that let to goal from Leganes and then at the end of the game made some incredible saves to hold to a draw. For me, the best that does not perhaps get as much hype outside of la liga or atleti fans is Oblak. Having watched Curtois closely at Atleti i can confidently say he is better than Curtois used to be at atleti. And Curtois was very good.

I'am glad you are not in charge of our transfer business

I agree. Oblak is a complete goalkeeper and doesn't really have weaknesses. He's brilliant and I'd say top 3 in the World.

To be honest I've been resigned to DDG leaving for the last few years. He is class but once Real became interested it became a question of when not if.That is a problem I see with signing Spanish or Latin American players, they are always going to be tempted by either of the big Spanish clubs.

If we spend big this summer it'll be on Hazard, not on a goalkeeper. I may hope.

Just go and be your irritating self for one of our rival teams for once please.

Go and Raid Chelsea for Hazard or Courtois or better get them both. And Get Aguero and KDB from City aswell whilst you are at it.

You owe us that much for stealing Ronaldo away and then I'am not even talking about Becks or Ruud

If De Gea leaves I really hope the club identify his position as a priority and do not mess around. I like Romero but he's not our number one. It was too long between Schmeichel and Van Der Sar. The club cannot allow this to happen again.

Didn't it come out that we put a release clause in his new contract, specifically relating to Real Madrid?

Good point; we can't afford to make a mistake with any replacement, if it should come to that.

Ddg came to us at an early stage mate, that's not an issue. For me it's that we'd be going for a Southend European keeper again instead of an English/ northern European keeper as we tend to lose players who are used to warmer climates all too often.

Thanks for the info, I was impressed with what I've seen so far of Sergio Rico, but you are obviously right, he'd be a step down.

Schleicher plays to a good level regularly Romero plays hop and a catch so you can't judge him really
