Danny Welbeck | Arsenal player

Might sound strange, but I think hes too nice a person. He doesnt have that bit of "ruthless" streak in him that most great strikers have that also make them appear as a real dick now and then.

You can only play what's in front of you. Sterling, Ox, Walcott (all natural wingers), and whoever else has been playing hasn't exactly been banging them in for England against that level of opposition, have they?

Also, Welbeck has played on the wing a lot more for England, and even though, at times he hasn't scored, he's put in good performances.

When has he had an opportunity at club level in a 3 man midfield?

Sterling and Walcott have proven their ability to score in the premier league and at club level, we are talking not about international football but club level and the premier league.

Welbeck's already had more touches (22) than RVP had in the whole game against Arsenal last week. He's everywhere.

This says it all, people are comparing him to an out of form RVP, what Louis van Gaal referred to as a RVP low on confidence who had a very bad game, obviously a high on confidence RVP who had a very good game would be far above Welbeck's standard so there would be no comparisons.

I mean RVP had the fewest touches of any United player for over a decade in that game so the fact Welbeck is being compared to that standard really isn't good, I've seen a few people do this.

We didn't always play a 4-4-2 at United. There were plenty of occasions where we played a 4-2-3-1, which is essentially a very similar formation, and he was out wide, and just generally didn't do much. It's the story of welbecks career with United. He played loads of times, but got moved around because he simply wasn't good enough to hold down a position. Wherever he played, he generally gave the same impact. Hard work, great at taking the ball off defenders, good link up play and little flicks, but not much else.

4231, with 2 defensive midfielders and one attacking midfielder, is a lot different to 3 centre midfielders, which normally consists of a holding player and two box to box midifelders, which give the wingers a lot more freedom going forward.

Welbeck's case seems similar to Rooney's, in my opinion. Because he's so versatile, he's used in different positions. Just look at Rooney now. Getting played in fecking centre midfield when he's proved time and time again he's still a top centre forward. This is not me comparing Welbz to Rooney, but they're similar cases, in my opinion.

So has Welbeck. :wenger:

It's not about having a bad game, though. A bad game to me is showing for the ball and having a bad touch, misplacing a pass, missing chances etc. Currently, Van Persie is not doing enough up top for me. Getting involved in the game has nothing to do with form.

I'm simply stating what Louis van Gaal said.

I still stand by my point that people are comparing Welbeck to what Louis calls an RVP low on confidence who needs to up his game, it is unlikely we will see Welbeck compared to an RVP who is high on confidence.

It is a bit similar I'd agree. Except with Rooney I think its more of a case of him being moved around because he's so good and versatile he can be class elsewhere and allow another striker up front, whereas with welbeck its because he's not good enough to lock down a position.

To be completely honest though, I have no idea what we're arguing at the moment

So he has to do more then or should be dropped for someone who will. Simple!

Louis van Gaal said his place is not safe in the team and he needs to step it up.

The beauty of Falcao's return and the fact Louis van Gaal seems to rate Wilson not just because he brings him on here and there but what he has said in interviews along with Rooney able to perform excellently as a striker means RVP can be dropped and that takes the pressure off him, he will come off the bench where I think he can be effective and has the opportunity to gain some momentum and work his way back into the team.

That moment right there is welbecks problem. Has a good little run to open up some space, great chance for a shot, but he passes it off to ramsey. He needs to be more selfish and get that killer instinct, which I don't think he has in him.

that is the problem with Welbeck as a striker. He is selfless and prefers to lay of to his teammates than go for goal himself. Watching the game, if Welbeck had Rooney in the team instead of Carzola he would had a couple of assist with some of the key passes he had to Carzola. Nevertheless, as a second striker, Welbeck is potent and good for a teams overall performance.

Ben Foster made a right mess of that. 3 in 12 league games now for Danny. We sure miss those goals.
Welbeck has not developed a reputation for scoring a lot of goals. We are missing his productivity and chemistry with Rooney/Mata though. There isn't doubt that United would be better of if we had Welbeck partnering Rooney instead of van Persie. The outcome of today's game against hull will not change my opinion.

That's the problem isn't it, he left cause he hasnt been given enough chances up front. Since he left we've been hearing here he'll score 20-25 goals this season. Can't see it though.

he is new to the team and he already scored 13 in all competition including national team.. Apart his goals he is very valuable to the team with his hard work and clever play. He is no playmaker but he creates chances with his movements and flicks thats what we miss and never get from van Persie who is turning into Grant Holt and Van Gaal havent showed balls yet to bench him or sell him as he is absolutely useless. I wouldn't be surprised if he scored hattrick today tho..

He could develop such a reputation if he becomes more decisive and selfish. He has the potential and ability, but he has not applied it yet.

He's been promising for us. It was he right move for both clubs and United supporters have to stop been so bipolar about it.

He was always a player who caused massively polarised opinions within our fanbase, mostly due to the lack of goals and assists- as well as losing balance too often.

He seems to have started off alright at Arsenal, better than most of our strikers have been so far this season, so it's only natural his transfer is going cause arguments- especially when some of the people who were most vocal about the lad while he was here can't stop themselves from piping up as if his last performance entirely validates every opinion they've had about him.

Yeah, thank feck his replacements Falcao and Robin are playing so well and banging them in every game for us.

To be honest I thought he'd do better at Arsenal, however I think he's still on for 15 goals. Which would be a decent return for a striker who cant finish. I just thought he was really gonna push on at Arse, but he hasnt. 16 mil is still a steal though.

If Welbeck had been at a Southampton or Everton they'd be getting at least twice what United got for him. I don't know what they were thinking. A young English striker who regularly scores for his country.
