no because if that was the case balotelli would have had more than 1 goal at liverpool with terrible work rate while Welbeck would be contributing to Arsenal's overall play while barely scoring. You can use what they did for their past teams to gauge what they are good at or where they can improve. But they have to solely be judged for what they've done for their current team, what are the positives, what are the negatives, is the forecast great ? if not then how much more patience do you need before making a judgement on the player.
Taking the negatives at their previous teams when making a judgement on their current situation would incite bias. Especially when they aren't having the same problems they've had in their past teams(in Balotelli's case).
Well the point about what the Milan president said would indicate that Balotelli's attitude wasn't right whilst with them. I certainly don't think his work rate has been shit, in fact, it's probably better than at times when I saw him at City. But as I said, when the chips are down, he has demonstrated that he can be prone to lose interest. I mean, the hysteria around here about how unbelievably shit he is, is just that, hysteria. He clearly is a far better player than what he has shown so far.
As for bias? If anything, I would have been accused of underrating Welbeck, around these parts. I don't think he's anywhere near as good as some make him out to be. Arsenal clearly bought him based on the qualities that they saw and Wenger must feel he can work further with him and improve him. Can he turn him into a top striker? For me, it remains to be seen. He has little or no competition for his place at present and will continue to get games, whether he is scoring or not.
Anyway, I have a very balanced view on both players, I would have thought. I have neither written them off nor have I indicated that either will set the world alight. I do have reservations about both, but lets just see how they fare. In terms of Balotelli, though, there is surely more to come - in terms of Welbeck; well what he has shown so far at Arsenal, seems fairly par for the course from what I saw during his United days; some good, some bad.
I don't think we were wrong to sell Welbeck, especially based on the fact that I have watched him for so many years. My issue would be that it was ridiculous to sell him to a rival in a desperate situation for such a small fee. That, is my only issue regarding his sale. He's a player I would have liked to keep, but it wasn't to be and his sale has been completely blown out of all proportion by people on here and the media. The hysteria surrounding the transfer will continue for the forseeable future.
