Danny Welbeck 2015/16

Jokingly, with a reference to Messi, Pele, et al.

You've consistently been the most prolific poster on Welbeck threads on the Caf.

The difference is that I accept he's poor in some areas but very good in others. You only seem to see the negative.

You started it about 30 seconds after his goal against Leicester and bumped it straight after he scored against us. If it wasn't here, I wouldn't be able to post in it y'know. Your the one that felt the need to start another tedious Welbeck thread.

If he wasn't an academy player this thread probably wouldn't even exist.

The fact that it gets bumped after a decent pre-assist shows how desperate some people are to make him out to be a much better player than he actually is.
Yes it would. Most ex players have threads

It's even more significant that We sold a good player to Arsenal.

I was clearly exaggerating but I doubt it'd be remotely as prolific.

Hernandez on the other hand deserves his thread, cause you know, he's actually been fecking great since he left.

To be fair to Welbeck, he has been good for Arsenal since his comeback from injury. If he played like this for United not many will criticize his performance. Beside the moment of Magic by Kane, he has done a better job leading the line than him today.

Two goals against two other top four sides and a great performance today against another.

He's a quality player. Glad he's been injured this season.

The key difference being that Kane is actually capable of those moments of magic though, Welbeck isn't, or at least not remotely regularly.

You can't be the first choice striker at a top club (which he wanted to be) if you don't have those moments in your locker. Being consistently decent and dependable is not good enough and that's why he more often than not found himself on the wing for us and has rarely gotten to play up front for Arsenal either.

I somewhat agree and somewhat disagree with that. Kane is more consistent with those magic moment than Welbeck, but Welbeck has had some in the past. Welbeck needs to improve his level of consistency if he wants to lead the line for a top club.

Has he?

Anyway, pro-Welbeck people always seem to dance around the real issue here. He wanted to play upfront for us. He didn't want to play on the wings, and the fact is that he never remotely showed that he was prolific enough or good enough to do that. Should we have sold him to a rival? Probably not. But should we have given in to those demands and play him up top? Feck no we shouldn't.

Welbeck is not and likely will never be good enough to lead the line for a top club. He would've left eventually anyway.

Welbeck will never become a top striker, how long will this discussion last really. His all round play is decent more often than not but he just doesnt have 'it'.
Don't be harsh on Danny. I believe that in 5-6 years he can be a striker who can score 8 goals in a season...

He's very good outside the box, but he'll never be a striker.

Just recently the leceister game which was a big point at the time. Even though some of his moment does not come in goals, his performance and contribution in these big games has been noted which is why he keeps getting selected in those matches. The Real Madrid and his performance versus Bayern also come to mind as big game with noteworthy contribution. Today, his contribution was also noted aswell with the first goal.

I asked for examples of moments of magic, like Kane's just there, not noteworthy contributions. I've never disputed the fact that the lad is capable of good, consistent performances. I'm saying he's not prolific enough or capable of the moments of magic a top class striker should be.

If he was happy to stay here and play on the wing then I'd have been happy too. Lord knows he's a much better than the useless Lingard.

Back heal winner against Sweden.

Lingard is quite a promising player. Not sure what you have against him.

Danny Welbeck is a terrible terrible striker and for the most part a useless player. He didn't develop a bit in years!

Was really good today, his non-stop hustling and running causes problems. Shame he doesn't have the last part to his game.... well.. not a shame for us now.

Selling Danny Welbeck was a fecking huge mistake. Manc-lad, young and pacey. Martial on the left, Rashford on the right and Memphis and Welbeck in the middle. Youth, Pace and two Manc-lads.

Like most strikers to be fair. He's never gonna be a £60m+ player but he is an intelligent footballer and good to have in the squad.

Absolutely, I would have him as a squad player no problem at all but he clearly didn't want to be that.

 at Robbie.

Good to see we still have agenda posters on the Caf.

Not an agenda at all. It's a Welbeck thread after all, I've never made a thread about him either. I think he's a decent player but he's not missed at all really. He's wildly overrated by some on here and I don't get the drama about him moving on. Wish we hadn't of sold him to Arsenal, mind.

Like him or not he was far too good a player to sell to a rival. We could have done with him this season

When you say moment of magic, I categorize that differently than just goals contribution. The way I see it and define moment of magic is:
  • unexpected goal contribution
  • noteworthy performance.
If you re-read my previous post, I already provided example.

Oh I know you did, I ignored it because it wasn't a correct example.

Nobody is arguing about being good to have in the squad. The questions is is he a top player? The only answer is no. Kane despite being a few years younger is already ahead of Danny on the road to being a top player.

The goal against Leicester isn't a moment of magic ffs.

Especially when you consider the fact he scored the goal which knocked us out of the FA Cup (a competition Arsenal went on to win) and contributed to Arsenal finishing above us in the league.

How is that 'especially' though?

You can't stop anyone you sell scoring against you. If that's the criteria we'd have never sold anyone.

He's defo much better than Rooney and Falcao together, should stay instead of them, shame Vangle didnt rate him... Even after a long term injury coming back and instantly providing quality, as a striker defo still has a step up to make but as wide forward and occasional inform striker, he's great player even for top sides like MUFC or Arsenal..
