Danny Welbeck 2015/16

He shouldn't have been off for it. It was an honest challenge for the ball and both got a piece of it. It still resulted in an injury for Rojo, as well as a goal against us. Booing seems fine to me.

I'm not disputing it was an honest challenge for the ball, or saying that he deliberately hurt him, just from what I remember from the replay he went in with two feet and ended up injuring Rojo because he got the ball with one foot and caught Rojo with the other.

I mean, if he had been sent off for it I know people would be complaining that it was harsh, but the reason those sort of tackles are banned is precisely because of what happened to Rojo.

But as I said, I need to see it again, maybe I'm mis-remembering.

We don't need to cheer him but I wouldn't have booed. It's not like he was angling for a move. He clearly still loves the club and is a Manchester lad, I accept whatever path he chooses professionally.

Ah, I misunderstood your post, my bad. I actually didn't see the second foot catch him actually. I'll need to watch that again too.

That's not true. I'm a bit of an ITK with this situation. Welbeck was pushed out and then chose Arsenal after we transfer listed him. Ed Woodward apparently told Welbeck he was 5th chose behind Wilson (and Rooney, RVP, Falcao) and he wasn't wanted at the club.

I'd heard something similar before on here. Pity we didn't keep him as I hate seeing our academy players leaving to do well at a rival club and I always like Danny.

He tried to leave during the Moyes era then he joins Arsenal where he claims it was always his dream to play for them.
This poor Danny narrative that is usually trotted out is seen through some red tinted glasses imo.

Of course he's going to say things that endear him to his new club. I can't blame a player for chasing first team football. This would probably bother me more if he was a better player.

Well a week after he signed he was saying how he fantasized about playing for Arsenal whilst at United, cringeworthy for me that is.

But we used to use him in a 4-2-3-1 and I thought he was against playing out wide in any formation.
Rooney is a very different no.10 to Ozil. Arsenal's set up is pretty fluid, their forwards are give a lot of freedom to rotate. Suits Welbeck better than how we had him playing.

Interesting - do you know what was going on during the Moyes season? Things like him breaking club rules out partying (around the Bayern fixtures IIRC?), and then reportedly reacting badly to being sanctioned for that? Also all the papers collectively reporting that he wanted to leave on the morning of Moyes' last game for us at Goodison - was that not his side briefing the papers? If so then what was the objective there if he didn't want out?

I'm not at all sure he's as innocent in all this as portrayed, but I wouldn't have booed him. I think the only ex-United player I've ever booed was Heinze.

Literally had the opposite game which he usually had for United. Scored the goal but didn't do much otherwise.

And rightly so imo. if we consider the decision from 2014 pov, there was no way he deserved to start over Rooney rvp. Falcao was a mistake in hindsight but at his best, falcao was 1000 times the player Welbeck ever was and I don't blame us for taking a risk with him. And Wilson was a wonder kid who scored goals for fun at youth level and Welbeck wasn't scoring so it's not surprising that he was 4th or 5th choice.

I only watch last 30 mins, but commentator say he was not effective as striker in game,
But reading some comment here it look like he play different game.

I also heard the same from a source very close to Welbeck.

He's a friend of a friend. Don't have that much info to be honest even though I've met him/ hung out with him.

However another friend of a friend is Memphis. Tell you one thing, he's completely different to how the media/ fans see him. He's a very shy, humble, hard working guy. He was in tears to his girlfriend when he got ridiculed about his car. Think it was his first car he ever bought himself. Yes he's got elaborate fashion but doesn't make him a bad guy. Also, like I said above he's been working his arse off. He is struggling with the league, says it's 10x faster than the Dutch league but he's working on it.

Anyway, this post should've been in the Memphis thread. Whoops!

Class act. Dont think anybody expected such an impact after missing almost a year of football......

If he wasn't an academy player this thread probably wouldn't even exist.

The fact that it gets bumped after a decent pre-assist shows how desperate some people are to make him out to be a much better player than he actually is.

Not good enough to lead the line for a top club. People need to deal with it.

Absolutely no one would rate him on here if he wasn't an academy player. It's like Dante bumping his own thread last week after he scored against us saying what a huge mistake it was to let him go. He's an average player, that's all really.

I have 3 posts in this thread. You have 22.

Correct

Agreed.

I think he's a very good player, and to be fair he is probably the best academy graduate of the last decade. Having said that, he would've been nothing more than a squad player for us assuming we actually had a title challenging team.

Will also be 26 later this year. Some need to let this go.

You made this thread
Jokingly, with a reference to Messi, Pele, et al.

You've consistently been the most prolific poster on Welbeck threads on the Caf.

The difference is that I accept he's poor in some areas but very good in others. You only seem to see the negative.
