Danny Rose | Rose: "I will play up North before I retire"

Well, perhaps by suggesting to pay them 'what they are worth' they are trying to pay them what they are worth, not pay them far more than they are worth. It's not a concept hard to grasp.

Shaw was not worth the wages offered to him by United. He was offered those wages simply to lure him to the club.

Depth? Yes. Quality? No. Darmian, Jones, Smalling, Lindelöf etc aren't anything special.

Real Madrid has Carvajal, Ramos, Marcelo, Varane... I would say non of our defenders would go to RM:s starting eleven. Or maybe Bailly, maybe.
quality comes from our starting 11. Baily rose jones and Valencia are all very good. jones is a really good defender but just can't stay fit.

I swear Varane along with Pique might be the most overrated La Liga defenders. They aren't very good and are very mistake prone. I'd take Baily and Jones.. hell even Smalling over him in a heartbeat.

You make a good point that Real beats us quality wise, but not in terms of depth. I'd take our potential back up defense of Shaw smalling rojo/lindleof Darmian over theirs any day.

In fairness when he was at southampton he was up there with the best Left back in the league, since hes came here hes been injury prone, still not sure i really beleive hes on the wages quoted either,

Even if he was planning to leave as he was signing the contract, Levy and the fans should be thanking him. A long term contract guarantees Spurs an excellent transfer fee.

I don't get why you get so touchy whenever transfers are brought up. Spurs bought him for peanuts, made him a very good player, and during that time he helped them become a very good team. Now, if he leaves, you get a massive transfer fee. Win-win as you has had his services for a while, and then you made a truckload of profits.

We are in a similar situation with De Gea. Came here as a kid, improved massively, and although we pay him a high salary, I wouldn't begrudge him a move to RM. He signed a contract so we would get a handsome transfer fee, and we got to have him for a few years while he was performing at a very high level. If he wants to move to a team that is clearly better, or to a city he prefers, or to get paid more, so be it.

So if de Gea leaves for RM this summer, it would be "win-win" for United? I doubt you actually believe your own words.

He's a complete clown doing an interview with the sun 3 days before the season mouthing off about Spurs.

Maybe he's been asking for a contract for the past 3 months and been ignored. We don't know the full story.

He wont go to City with Mendy.

Liverpool are unlikely to be in for him.

He basically has just told Jose I want to join United.

Cant really blame Rose, must be looking around and thinking wow i could double my wages, also the thought of winning trophys, Spurs under Levy will for me always be second rate to a degree, yes they have had 2 fantastic seasons but unless they win the league this season then i could see a lot of the players moving on, as it stands i cant see them making the upgrades needed in the transfer market to win the league.

The timing shows that this has been done to cause as much damage as possible. Rose is finished as a Spurs player imo.

Exactly. I'm convinced that he's been tapped up by either us or Chelsea. I think him moving to us is a high probability.

Nice to see a player who is pretty clear in wanting to win trophies rather than just having a "decent" season in the league.

Kyle Walker did, and he happened to sign his new 5 year contract at the same time as Rose.

I don't think Rose will push for a move this summer either but flat-out ruling out the possibility on the basis of a long-term contract is just a bit hollow, too.

The difference is that Spurs were OK with selling Walker. They are not OK with selling Rose.

There is a way to do it though without damaging the club in the process. If he wants to leave thats fine, put in a transfer request and be done with it. This is really poor from him.

SkySports just announced they had spoken to United and had been told Rose is not someone under consideration this Summer.

It's not the first time he's done something like this, not to this degree but he has no problem using the media. Like you say from a guy that hasn't played football in 6 months this is a real low blow. I'd agree with you that there could be a high chance of Poch getting rid of him if the right offer comes in.

I don't think Spurs will do any business with Chelsea. At least with ManUtd there isn't any hatred between clubs but with Chelsea they have.

Can't say I like his approach. I wouldn't be exactly thrilled if he came here.

How? Trippier only really became involved for you towards the back end of last season once it was apparent Walker would be leaving. If Rose kicked up enough of a fuss (which I don't think he will) I could definitely see a similar outcome.

They're all mercenaries when it comes down it it, lad. Getting attached to a particular player is never a good idea, especially one that is underpaid and harbors ambition toward success. It's not personal on Rose's part, he simply wishes to be paid his market worth. Nothing more nothing less. I'm sure he'd be happy to stay at Spurs were he to recieve a wage befitting his ability.

How long does Levy believe he can get away with grossly underpaying his players, whilst at the same time pricing them out of the transfer market?

My thoughts from the Spurs thread:

-I actually think everything he has said is completely reasonable and true. Some fans will be upset to hear them and will read what they want to read but I think the thoughts themselves are reasonable.

-However the timing of the comments is pretty disrespectful, especially to Poch who, despite what Rose said, has had a huge part to play in becoming the player he is today. It is also very disrespectful to his current teammates (something Walker did not do). Rose, Walker, Alli, Dier and Kane (amongst many others) were all players people would have had to google before becoming the players they are today.
It is not a coincidence that Rose's agent is the same as Walker's.

-Also pretty disrespectful when he's spent the last 5 month out and won't even be ready for the new season.

Pretty dick move from Rose and not one I particularly think was necessary. Hey ho.

Lol ... only Walker has left, and Spurs were OK with letting him go.

Why did he leave, though? That's the question you need to be asking yourself.

For me the answer is obvious, he simply wanted more money. Rose does too. Alderwield simply wants a release clause which Massa Levy refuses to grant his players as he considers them property.

I agree with you however what was stopping him from going to Levy and the manager in private and saying exactly the same thing to make his point? At least then he would know where he stood re: contract/wages, etc. and if he didnt get an answer he liked he could put in a transfer request. Speaking to the press and essentially telling many of his team mates he doesnt think they are good enough just a few days before the start of the season is not the way to do it.

We cannot afford to pay what the "big" clubs see as the "going rate", it's not exactly Levy's fault. I can post up the annual revenue of the top clubs in England if you like, Tottenham bring in over £300M less than United a year.

If the players want to leave that's up to them but having signed a contract they should at least try and honour it for the first year or 2 at least. If they want to leave hand in a transfer request and wait and see if an offer is accepted.

What did Poch do with Spurs came knocking? He fecked off and showed no loyalty to Southampton.

He can't expect any loyalty from players when he has none himself. He is a mercenary.

I don't think Poch is too worried anyway with his few million quid a year.

This interview is the kind of thing Jose has been encouraging targets to do.

You clearly have no knowledge of the situation at the time in Southampton.

Poch is a mercenary now for wanting a better job and to move up in his line of work? God the word mercenary is so stupidly used on here now, it's beyond ridiculous.

10 pages in 12 hours

Did something happen, or are muppets just thirsty and not able to sleep?

This has nothing to do with being a mercenary though. Or, for that matter, getting attached (at least from my perspective). Getting attached to players is a fools game imo. Not just because of my increasing age  but because a lot of the time, I don't blame them actually. If you think you're being underpaid as a normal worker, motivation goes down. If you get offered more money in another firm, with better opportunities, how many stay becuase that other firm paid for their training? How many people want to stay around family?

Its all fair enough. But this is quite disrespectful imo. And you can do this without disrespecting the club or the squad or the manager (see Walker and Coutinho for example).

Absolutely mate.

Rose's behaviour - mouthing off to the press - is nothing short of disgraceful, and after reading his comments I don't want him anywhere near United.

I pray Jose can see this and stays away from this one.

FFS! What'swrong with us. We need a LB badly. Do we not have money?

What? What does any of that have to do with what I wrote?

That's not really what happened with Poch and Southampton either but oh well.

He'd be an excellent addition to the squad imo.. sounds like he is pushing for a move, and we need more british talent in the side who can actually play top level football.

He had a year left on his contract at Southampton and left. Doubt he took a pay cut.
