Danny Rose | Rose: "I will play up North before I retire"

We couldn't pay Shaw's wages so it would end that dead.

He's not too far off recovery but yeah he hasn't kicked a ball in 6 months. He's trying to force Levy into making signings and getting an improved contract, he's done it before. This time I'm thinking he may have burnt his bridges, totally unacceptable behaviour especially days from a new season.
Has he had a major injury? That would cause doubt for potential buyers.

Wouldn't he still fail the medical regardless, though?
No. Players have and can pass medicals whilst they're injured. Bakayoko is a good example, though his injury hasn't been as long term as Rose. IIRC, a club can sign a player irrespective of if they fail a medical or not -- it's normally just to ensure there's no real issues, like Liverpool and Remy -- I believe there were heart issues that could've come into play at a later date. Same sort of thing was speculated this summer with Patrick Schick not being signed by Juventus after his medical.

I'd sign him and keep Shaw. Those two being our LBs would be great. Stick with them and chuck playing the likes of Darmian, Rojo etc there.

Have to say some of the comments from Rose are a bit ridiculous. The Google one is really disrespectful.

I have read his interview on few sites, didn't see that "Google" part anywhere.

Ok so here is my take on this - Rose wants out of the club, I can see no other reason why he would do this - he is acting to benefit himself. He wants more money and he is trying to create a situation he will leave. I think this will hurt the manager as from what I hear they get on very well. I expect Rose to be sold - probably not this window but certainly in January or next summer. My fear is that Rose is the tip of the iceberg and other players such as Toby, etc. will also leave within the next year and we will have a big problem on our hands. The biggest worry for me is what this might do for Poch - will he be prepared to ride the storm or will he decide he can't achieve what he wants at the club and leave. If that happens then we will go backwards as a club quicker than Rose signing a £200k per week contract and we will end up with further decades of mid-table mediocrity. Oh but we will have a lovely stadium.

Giving Rose £200k is not the answer. You will have to give Kane and Alli about £280k if you did that.

Wayne Rooney passed a medical with a broken toe, and made his debut weeks later. It's a moot point.

We won't pay him that, we might offer him a new contract of around £100k per week but if he isnt interested then he's gone. By the way the 'quicker than Rose signing a £200k per week contract' was a joke :P

It's not just cash. He wants trophies and Spurs don't provide that.

That part annoys me - his attitude is 'club needs to sign players so I can win a medal' - no mate YOU need to play better to help the team win medals.
Hasn't he been one of your best players along with Kane and Alli?

Ah, well I misunderstood as it certainly an argument that it may be more beneficial to Spurs to just pay the players what they want rather than take several steps back by breaking up the team.

Yeah he has but he has only become such a good player with the help of the club and in particular our manager. He has a lot to thank us for yet he comes out a few days before the season and does this. I'm really not impressed with him.

I agree we need to pay bigger wages - I also agree that we need to improve the squad with good players. I actually agree with a lot of what Rose said. To go to the Sun a few days before the season starts is unforgiveable though.

He wants to leave now so obviously he will be stepping into overrated territory for Spurs fans now.

Let's not start that nonsense - I have been very clear Rose is a very important player for us but does that mean I should just accept him going to the press like he has?

Was always going to be a hard transition, but we needed the new stadium to increase revenue there was no way round it.

Nah he's not overrated at all and would never say he is, like Walker he is a very good player.

He's a complete clown doing an interview with the sun 3 days before the season mouthing off about Spurs.

It wasn't really aimed at you as you are quite reasonable for a spud.

Spurs are not paying their players enough, not even close. You can't keep a squad happy under those conditions.

What I really love about this is that Levy, the great transfer market operator, made a rod for his own back by signing Sissoko for big money and paying him the second highest salary at the club!

What a glorious way to shoot yourself in the foot.

Yeah the Sissoko situation was almost as bad as the Adebayor situation - we have made some howlers in the transfer market over the years but then so have every club. We will have to up our wages, it simply has to happen. Whether it happens now or next season when we move into the new stadium I don't know but it has to happen soon.

I don't know the actual scenario pure guessing on my part. He might have made his voice heard at the club top level when he found out nothing's being done then he went to sun. Maybe you can answer it well if there was any news of discontent on his part recently?

I'd be pretty certain that anything that's been said to the press has been said behind closed doors already. Unfortunately for Spurs fans, we can all see where he is coming from. He isn't paid what he would earn at other competing clubs, he wants to win trophies, which would be more likely to if the club would invest. It's no use to him the club holding back money now to invest in a bigger stadium, all so that they can be a bigger club when he's past his peak.

No this has come out of the blue. The manager and our chairman have both been clear over the past few months that we will sign players but we are purposely waiting till the end of the window to try and get the best deals. Rose I think has seen his mate Walker move and get massive wages and he has decided he wants the same thing. That would be fair enough but to go to the press like he has done has been extremely unhelpful and it's all done to force a move imo. A move I think he will now get. You could have a new left back within the next week.

We need to get Danny Rose at all costs. Just look at this wicked lineup and depth:

Rose
Shaw

Baily
Smalling

Jones
Rojo/Lindleof

Valencia
Darmian

I don't think there is another team in the world other than maybe Bayern that matches this depth and quality. Get Err Done.

Hyperbole at its finest.

He's still injured isn't he? Probably won't play again until after the international break in September. I could see him signing for someone else late in the window and never playing for Spurs again.

So Spurs are the only reason Rose has progressed so much over the past few seasons? Wouldn't have anything to do with the player's dedication to fitness, training and taking on tactical advise?

Obviously Poch and his coaching staff have played a big part in Rose's emergence as the league's best LB, but let's not pretend it doesn't take a lot of dedication, both mentally and physically, from the player as well.

Of course it's both together that have brought him on - there is quite a difference between the Danny Rose before Poch came in and the Danny Rose of today. yes a lot of credit to the player but a lot has to go to the manager also.

No-one forced Rose to sign a new, 5 year contract less than 12 months ago. If he wants to go now - and actually he doesn't say that he does - then he should have thought about that before putting pen to paper. He can't have it every which way ...and with Levy he won't.
Kyle Walker did, and he happened to sign his new 5 year contract at the same time as Rose.

I don't think Rose will push for a move this summer either but flat-out ruling out the possibility on the basis of a long-term contract is just a bit hollow, too.

Would you like to refute that? What other team would match in the world other than Bayern?

Depth? Yes. Quality? No. Darmian, Jones, Smalling, Lindelöf etc aren't anything special.

Real Madrid has Carvajal, Ramos, Marcelo, Varane... I would say non of our defenders would go to RM:s starting eleven. Or maybe Bailly, maybe.

It Would be very sad when a manager builds a good group of people and turns them into title contenders and then all of a sudden the players want to leave and the team is broken. If united doesn't win anything I would want to win rather than seeing clubs like liv, chel, city or even arsenal win anything.

This situation might completely broke Spurs, your owner should have taken these into consideration when the team was performing the way it did the past 2 seasons and paid the players wages atleast what are they are worthy of.

Don't see this happening. Good LB, we could definitely use him but it won't be happening.

Didnt realise he was 27.

He makes a good point but it's absolutely horrendous timings by him. Just a week before the PL starts, and he comes out with comments like that.

The timing shows that this has been done to cause as much damage as possible. Rose is finished as a Spurs player imo.

Only a matter of time. Must be infuriating seeing your best players leave one after another especially when they have to pay for the new stadium and transfer funds are limited. Dele Alli, Kane and Erikssen in the next few years will leave as well you would have to think if they keep performing the way they are.

Lol ... only Walker has left, and Spurs were OK with letting him go.
