How old is he? He has played in Italy for a long time, would he ever adapt to the Prem?
27. Maybe.

He'll turn 28 in three weeks' time, actually.
That doesn't make my answer incorrect, actually.
No but it's relevant information. He's too much of a risk at 28, never having played anywhere outside his comfort zone.
If we signed him would we still need a player in the mould of Modric/Nasri to play alongside him?
Why are Roma going to go along with the idea of selling him when they're rich now? I must have missed a vital piece of information somewhere that makes it a possibility
I could only see him going if he was the one wanting out, and honestly I'm surprised he's never wanted out. Too good a player to have never won a Serie A title.
I don't see why we can't try our luck with a cheeky bid.
As mentioned before he'll slot in perfectly, and is one of those midfielders that can carry on playing at the highest level well into his 30s.
How often do these work? And when was the last time a rich club like Roma, Chelsea or City lost a player to a "cheeky bid" ?

When was the last time city had a player bid for?

While they can be a waste of time, I believe if well done they can have great benefit in testing the waters. For example Chelsea's Modric bid was exactly that, a test the water. The result was a mess for Spurs, and while no saying Modric is going any where, clearly it raised the possibility. Or even just talk such as Evra urging Nasri to consider coming North can have an effect to clarify if there is any real possibility.
Just a thought .
If Chelsea end up paying double what they bid then fair enough, it was "just a cheeky bid"
If they refuse to go over £30 million for Modric, then the £22 million was somewhere near their max valuation of the player.
good player, dont think we are interested!
Would prefer him to Sneijder.
seriously?
he isn't better than our current mid-field (yes there is hype but that is because most don't watch him regularly, but whenever we have played Roma, he hasn't been upto much and was dominated by Carrick and Fletcher). Carrick and Fletcher on form are much more effective

The dream to bring 'El Flaco in Rome is not in fact gone down, but before he could make even need to deal with the renewal of De Rossi, left the window on which clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City are ready to take the field in the case.
Because we're a much better team than Roma. "Dominated" is a big overstatement.
He's quality, maybe he lacks the flair of Sneijder but we need a midfielder like him more than a midfielder like Sneijder.
that would be buying just for the sake of it. he wouldn't be more effective than what we have presently.
Sorry but he's a better player than Carrick and Fletcher, no offense to them, and also offers things that neither can.
He'd be a great signing ... that will never happen.
14.12: Roma are planning to offer midfielder (and Chelsea target) Daniele De Rossi a contract extension.
Yep!
Here's his family:
Roma have insisted that Premier League target Daniele De Rossi will not be leaving the club this summer.
The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, and he has just one-year left on his current deal.
But the Italian giants are adamant that De Rossi will not be sold and they hope to tie him down to a new deal.
"De Rossi's sale is not on the agenda, just as his contract renewal negotiations are not on the agenda for today," director of sport Walter Sabatini told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I cannot weaken the side. By selling De Rossi and then bringing in Javier Pastore or anyone else, I would still be weakening Roma.
"I have spoken to Daniele, we will speak with his agent and make an offer."
