I think it's because of the position we're in compared to Roma's. Still funny though!
He didn't say Manchester United, he said Manchester, and it's just as likely that City were the closest to signing him. Were we ever interested?

Also, I'd be fairly certain it's nothing to do with the respective position of any clubs, and more a case of him saying he'd have been gutted to have left Roma to go elsewhere and end up missing a title challenge with them. He's a Roma lad, so winning things with them would be more important than winning with another club.

Blown out of proportion and exaggerated for effect as usual. It's barely even about us.

The question was about Manchester United, from what I know. I remember City were interested in the 2012 summer transfer window.

That's what I said. He's happy he stayed at Roma because of their position. Compared to ours, they're obviously doing better. He looks at his happiest at the moment and isn't causing controversy.

I don't really think it has much to do with where the two clubs are. He probably would've believed he would have made a difference to this United side and had them further up the table. I think he just meant he felt out of touch with the Roma fans and players in the summer and felt it was time to move on, but if he'd acted on that impulse he would have hugely regretted it because Roma is in his heart. Or something sentimental like that.

Reading it again, with context, I think it's a lot to do with Roma's position, rather than United's. It's a funny quote, but he made these comments in private. If he wanted to take a dig at the club, he would have done so in public. IMO, it's about him regretting the decision to move away from Roma (considering what they have achieved this season thus far).

Media spin - Top players would now rather kill themselves than play for United under Moyes!

Tancredi's damage has already been done. It's all over Twitter and the likes of Dailymail naturally publish an article for clicks, without context of course.

When people from the continent say Manchester, they mean United. Always. It might change in time but at this point it's still true.

I wanted De Rossi about 4 years ago. As it stands there really isn't much point. He would only really be a short term solution if we got him now. Our problems in midfield require a long term solution, regardless do the cost.
