Dani Olmo

Olmo's contract includes a clause that allows him to leave for free if he can't be registered by December 31st, because he wouldn't be able to play for the rest of the season. He would, of course, have to exercise that clause. So Barca can go at this in a couple of very Barca-esque ways. The first is through the pulling of some highly shady, and speculative levers. A tried and tested trick, but one it seems that La Liga is finally closing the door on; and the other is by restructuring his contract. If Barca extend his contract before December 31st, reducing his salary for the year to the amount he has already been paid, he would essentially play the rest of the season for free and be able to be registered. In turn they would pay him the deferred sum plus a bonus next season, or spread over the remaining years of his contract. This is essentially what they did with De Jong. It true kicking the can down the road mode, but we know they don't care about that. And players seems to bend over to take it up the rear from the club.

De Jong is now one of the highest paid players in La Liga, but sits on the bench most of the time, because of how much deferred wages he accumulated. And what did he get in return for deferring the vast chunk of his wages? They desperately tried to kick him out the door before they came due, and in doping so refused to make him whole. He, of course, famously dug his heels in and stayed, but weirdly still preaches untold love for the club that treated him with so much disregard. In a normal world, I would say Olmo would look at that and say, pay me what you owe me this season, or I walk on a free in January. But you all know he won't.

I'm pretty sure that it's a bit more complicated than that.

1. The fact that he's not registered doesn't automatically void his contract, they can't play him in La Liga but they still own him
2. He has a clause (it's funny that he had to include it but with the current state of Barça you had to think about such things) that allows him to annul that contract if he's not registered. But this doesn't happen automatically

Have I repeated some obvious question being asked all day?

I’ll be surprised if this fails. Pretty sure they’ll get registered soon. But if not, while I like what Olmo brings, we should look at Victor - fast, good linkup play and has technique to keep the ball. He fits Amorim’s system as he can play left or right ST.

I thought the league rejected this new "lever"?

Can’t they just loan him out for 6months to us?We know he wants to stay there long term but if he can’t play, he’s guaranteed rain, 90mins a game and a fan base who jeer you if you have a poor few games.

They have no time to find a way. From 1st of Jan contract is annulled.

Contract isn't annulled, he has a clause that he can exercise to cancel it, but for all we know he wants to stay long term but wants to play again this season, so essentially telling Barca to loan him or lose him on a free.

The tidbits you quoted essentially confirm that too.

My guess is Barca will loan him to a Spanish side for the remainder of the season and sell a few players in January/summer.

They've got two hours. They'll pull off some shit. That being said, I do think Pau Victor will head out on loan and won't be registered.

Yeah pulled more levers than a Las Vegas gambler and know more tricks than Dynamo

What's this fella actually like? Worth a 6 month loan as a stopgap?
Technically sound attacking mid/winger that has garnered more buzz for his international tournament performances than what he’s done for club. Spent a lot of years at Zagreb and then Leipzig without getting a move despite how well he’s played for Spain. On paper he would offer a nice option at that left or right #10 role but who knows how it would work playing for us vs say City or Arsenal.

Thanks, good to know.

He’s an exceptional player when he’s fit. He’s hardly ever fit for a prolonged periods of time though. The Supercup against Bayern where he had scored a hat-trick (in a 3:0 win) is a good indication of what he’s capable of on his day. With our injury record he’ll probably spend 5 out of 6 of those potential months unavailable for selection though.

Did they really lose the right to register him? They supposedly paid RB Leipzig 60 million euro for him. Plus signing bonus and salary.

He CAN terminate his contract if he wants. But his agent says that he doesn't want to do that. Interesting.
He can still play in Europe, and they will continue paying him. They will just register him in the Summer.

Moving to United would be absolutely pointless from his perspective. We have nothing to play for for the rest of season in the league anyway, and in Europe we are in a worse competition than them.

As per some reports coming out from some of the Barca journalists, it doesn't appear that Olmo wants to activate the option to annul his contract. Apparently the next 72 hours will be crucial if there's any hope of him being registered.

Not the signs of someone planning or wanting to leave.

Yeah certainly not

Tbf if Olmo is out for the next six months, they’ll only miss him for 5-6 games he’d have been available for anyway.

Find it hard to be bothered about this either way, whether Olmo is available or not. He'd break within a game or two here, never to be seen again this season. Also, if he is off, he has far more appealing options than a dogfight here at a club that's sinking in quicksand.

What a mess of a club Barcelona became.
Can't understand why these players, e.g. Olmo or De Jong, absolutely want to stay despite all the chaos and uncertainty.
This club had a weird attraction on many players.

This generation just watched the previous one dominate football in a way that will be indelible and intrinsic to their perception of the club and what it stands for. They've been romanced by the mythos of Barcelona made blood and bone. The club of Messi's greatest feats, alongside a team who have went on to have many legends in their own right, this following on from another team pre-Pep that captured the fantasy of football with Ronaldinho leading the charge. Essentially, this generation has known nothing but sublime football and footballers playing their best football in the colours of Barcelona. You add the idyllic lifestyle and the weather and there should be no doubt as to why players are under a spell when it comes to the lure of the club.

They will be able to dine off the success of the previous generation for at least another 10 years - if you were 5-10 up to maybe 15 years old in 2014, numerous iterations of Barcelona have more than likely been seared into your brain. Success and brilliance begets more success and brilliance down the line as kids that idolise the superstars they've seen, set off to make their own way in the world. It is an honour to wear the same shirt and play for the same club as their heroes. You should know it well, as you carry a similar gravitas in your own league. United used to, but will not with the upcoming kids.

I think it is just like bad boys attract women

Yeah yeah good points
But also, in this case, he's a local lad who went through their academy and has always been a supporter of the club too

Still,

I wonder how Laporta will try to survive this. They pretty much have to win either the league or CL I reckon

it amazes me how little their fans care about all this.
