They’re crazy. They continue to sell off future revenue at a discount now so they can invest in the transfer market. Seems like the exact opposite of what to do.

In this case, I kinda get it because they immediately lose the asset for nothing, but why did they buy him in the first place?

How fecked are they going to be in the future

their fans got into the habit of celebrating transfers twice, done deal and later registration.

Wait for it...this has to approved by the league first, and afaik they said not long ago that they would not accept levers anymore....

All they have to do is to scale back a little and be content with reaching the champions league for a while. Instead they go all in and keep destroying their future. It is so weird. They could be out of the woods by now. Instead they make everything worse.

Their best case scenario now is the league rejects this as a valid means to register the player and Laporta and his board have to put up their own money as guarantee

They were never going to lose him though. Losing a player they spent big money on for nothing after 6 months? Laporta couldn't survive that

Always seemed unlikely to be fair - they must've known all of this when they signed him too

You said what I was trying to say in a much clearer way. This seems obvious, but it’s like their ego doesn’t allow them not to try to compete for the CL and La Liga every year.

While Madrid keeps black magicking our way to the CL? Please. Laporta's ego could never take that

No club will want to pick up a player who's contract was terminated as Barca are a terribly run club? Of course someone will sign him, he won't be a Barca player, so how can they get the arse about it?

Bad taste would be signing players when you're in financial shit and unable to register them

But he will be released on a free due to their own incompetence.
If anything, it should be seen as helping them to realize their faults and to change their ways for the better.
Like helping a friend kick a bad habit.

Why would that affect teams doing business with them? The selling club gets their money no matter what so why would the selling club care about the buying club or the player they sold after they sell them?

Shakhtar are still fighting Spurs and asking for money after they exploited a similar loophole by taking Manor Solomon after the war allowed their foreign players to leave.

Sporting also had big issues with Monaco for taking Gelson Martins when issues broke out at Sporting causing contracts to be void.

There is precedence, and this will be seen as predatory. I imagine Barcelona would want clubs to back off and let them sort their shit out rather than swoop in and make what will be seen as an exploitative move for a player they JUST signed by exploiting a loophole.

FC Barcelona have reportedly closed a last-minute €100m (£82.9m) deal to sell VIP boxesat the newly renovated Camp Nou to Middle Eastern investors. The club are hopeful the sale will allow them to meet financial fair play rules and finally extend Dani Olmo’s registration.

What have they got left to sell? Their soul?

Well I for one am shocked that Barcelona didnt allow their new £45.7 million signing to leave for free

Using a country being invaded by a larger oppressor to sneak through a deal on the cheap is not the same thing as signing a player who cannot be registered because the club who bought him have proven again and again that they cannot adhere to financial regulations.

Ah, so you were hoping for me to point you to an example where a club signed a player who cannot be registered because the club bought him have proven again and again that they cannot adhere to financial regulations, but just not Dani Olmo.

I’ll keep looking.

No I’m happy for you to use Dani Olmo, or you can use any of the other players Barca have signed without being able to afford over the past few years.

I just don’t think you should be pretending that Shaktar being upset at Spurs for exploiting the war in Ukraine, is equivalent to Barcelona spending more money than they make.

Compare Barca to any other team in the league besides Real. They're having trouble so they just squeeze out extra 100m in money by selling seats which they wanted to do anyway.

How is any team going to emerge as a realistic competitor? The gulf is way, way to big. Atlético will drop off when Simeone leaves and then we'll have have many, many years with no other team in contention for the league.

I think I posted this on another forum but it still rings true; Laporta should of tempered expectations for a few seasons, cleared up the financial issues whilst the Camp Nou is being rebuilt and then go big in the market. We have some amazing young players coming through anyway so it's not like Olmo was a MUST buy.. if anything, it was the perfect time to allow the young talents to grow so we can assess which positions we actually need to recruit for. The club want/ed Nico Williams first and foremost but luckily Raphinha turned into a top 5 winger this season some how, no doubt they go back for him again in the summer though neglecting another position.

On the flip side for Laporta though, goodluck winning a presidency on the back of telling fans we won't be challenging for La Liga or the CL for the foreseeable future, most don't have realistic expectations. The irony of it all is we are still some way off winning a CL and La Liga is very much up in the air this season, if Madrid put together a good run we are fecked.

I fear more levers will be pulled this summer as Laporta will want a galactico signing for the Camp Nou relaunch. Gonna end up with the club sold or at least partly to the middle east.

How can VIP boxes be worth 100m?
What the hell is going on in those boxes?

Presumably you are buying the revenue generated from them. Probably a decent investment for someone
Thats my guess as well, but feels like it would take ages to get back 100m from revenue from VIP boxes. I am probably underestimating how much money they are generating

From memory I think the boxes at Old Trafford are like 200k a season. Depending on how many there are you probably make your money back in like what 10-20 years and then it’s pure profit. Wildly speculative though.

Shouldn't this be in the Osimhem thread ?

It's just funny money at this point. It's all on paper and no money ever actually changes hands. They've sold their so called Barsa Studios twice over to different investors and La Liga doesn't care. As long as they can produce a contract that says they're going to get some money, Tebas says ok.
The City guys with the 130 charges come from Barcelona remember? Anything and everything to win.
