Gaming Cyberpunk 2077 (PC, PS4/5, Xbox One)

Thought I was paying some guy for entrance to a strip club or something... nope. Cutscene of me fecking him

This had me bursting out laughing in the mess room at work. Got some weird looks

What the hell were they doing for EIGHT years!

I doubt this was developed for 8 years, not even close, they were still deep on The Witcher 3 when they announced CP. I would think more like 4, 5 years, which for the game of this scope, is not very long with their numbers.

Daikatana is closer to this than most. Long development time with huge budget, nothing but hype and promise of all sorts of grand genre defining features, then cobbled together for a release that wasn't as bad as some made out yet clearly unfinished and missing all sorts of features.

Actually, the AI in that was also it's worst feature too and probably as laughable for it's time as that in Cyberpunk
Oh, the delightful weapons of Daikatana. They were excellent at killing... you.

And who thought that it would be a good idea to call the black sidekick Superfly Johnson. Truly the 90s were a different universe.

Cyberpunk just seems like the type of game that typically comes out at a console launch and it's dwarfed in the passing of time as it doesn't pack a punch for its hype. Basically a glorified Mirrors edge I never understood why this game was so reputable.

CDPR hype from Witcher 3 and Keanu fecking Reeves.

The trailer came out 8 years ago. So they had some idea of what to come. The barely even any weapons that are futuristic other the the pulse rifle.

The game is based on cyberpunk so the guns, lore and visuals are all based on that setting. The novels and RPG game explain the setting really well and why some parts of the world are relatively archaic with money in other places.

This bit is interesting:

Optimized default core/thread utilization for 4-core and 6-core AMD Ryzen(tm) processors. 8-core, 12-core and 16-core processors remain unchanged and behaving as intended. This change was implemented in cooperation with AMD and based on tests on both sides indicating that performance improvement occurs only on CPUs with 6 cores and less.

Basically says the hacks on Reddit did nothing and AMD have agreed.

  • Removed the memory_pool_budgets.csv file. which was not connected with the final version of the game and had no influence on it (it was a leftover file used during the development to estimate memory usage. It had no effect on how much memory was actually allocated). Perceived performance increase after editing the file may have been related to restarting the game.
Tell that to the nutters on steam, where theres a 40 page thread full of people insisting it worked for them and doubled their frames.

I always wonder what was the real conversation in this meme? What was making them laugh so much?
Something about him starting a job as a kitchen porter when he was a kid and the chef eas a horrible arsehole and particular about how he wants his prized plates and saucepans cleaned. He told that guy how to tie them to a pole on the beach for the sea to clean them out overnight or something and so then when he did that and returned the next day he hadn't tied them up properly and the whole lot had drifted out to sea, gone forever.

Nice! But I feel like it doesn't deserve all this hysterical laughter. I think laughing is some kind of infection, if you get what I mean. Laugh hard at any joke and suddenly everyone around you will start laughing too. I think about this whenever I watch this meme.

It absolutely is. That guy might have the most contagious laugh I've ever heard.

Just a little update my guys. So I've been messing about loads tonight to get a feel for performance and I have to say the graphics look fantastic on medium! Probably more so to me because I've come off of a base ps4 stretched on a 42" TV to a 26" monitor but even still. Frame rate could do with a tad boost though? I've had the numbers up while roaming different areas and generally it's floating between 40-55 fps but when there's lots going on on the screen I.e. high number of npc's while I'm running/jumping up and down or driving fast through busy intersections it drops to low 30s, even occasional brief moments of late 20s for the latter.

Overall this is on another planet to what I experienced on base console though, it's far from perfect but it's playable and fun. :)

Played about 5 hours on the PS5, few bugs here and there especially texture glitches when wearing certain outfits cut across the camera quite often.

The only other main gripe I've got is how sparse the city is with NPCs. Expected it to be a bustling city with loads of interaction with random people. Feel like the witcher had more interaction with random passers by even though it was so much more spread out.

Got to say I am enjoying it though, I've avoided this thread and basically anything about it in order to play through without any hints on which skills etc to pick.

Oh that reminds me actually the other gripe is that so far, your choice at the very start of which faction to choose only seems to allow choices in conversations that have no impact on the game. I hope it has more meaning going forward.

I ordered a new monitor on Amazon which Ill wait for before playing further. I bought a monster of a pc a few month ago, but never bothered to upgrade my 10 year old screen which is crap at this point.

Eh?

(And was that even hyped up that much??)

I would drop the crowd density down a notch, which is under gameplay..
what resolution? 1080p with a mix of low and medium settings should give you a FPS boost, have a look and see which settings you don’t mind being lower

Just downloading this patch now. I hope it makes it more stable. That’s probably my biggest gripe, the constant crashes.

1.04 patch really helped with stability and actually helped sharpen the graphics
It certainly did to the point I thought it might have been solved but as I’ve continued to play the stability has dipped again. Not been as bad as it was at the start where it was crashing every hour but it still crashes semi regularly on the PS5. I’m hoping this one could do the trick.

Mirror's Edge is an underrated gem of a game.
It had a cool idea and it's very interesting visually but it's a little undercooked. And the whole first person parkour got immensely frustrating at times, and it kind of sucked that you had to follow a strictly linear path - exploration via jumping around on rooftops would have been fantastic.

It definitely deserves credit for trying something unusual and for coming up with a very unique and distinct look.

Not just that but it depends on who or how you tell the story. I was never gonna justify it in a few sentences the way thr man told the story.

I loved its linearity. There was a clear path and you just had to keep going, never dropping your momentum. The second game was more open and certainly the worse for it.

Your ankle-testing exploits make so much sense now.

Very much agreed. People have this weird obsession with everything being open world these days.

Mirror's Edge worked as a pure time trial type game where you need timing and reflexes.

Talking of, I downloaded it for free off Games with Gold so gonna have a bash. Always liked the look of it but never played

I could not agree with this sentiment more, the open world fetish the industry has now is killing me. I'll take a well designed somewhat linear level over an emptyish open world everytime.

If I want an open world I can go outside.

There's a big difference between 'strictly linear' and 'open world'. I like mostly linear games that allow me to stray off the path a bit, find secrets, and so on. Like the Soulsborne games which aren't open world (well, Dark Souls arguably is but let's not get into that).

For me, pure time trial/reflex games are fun for half an hour but then I want to do something more interesting with my life.

God Of War would be a great example of that also. Not exactly open world but you can always stray off the path to find secrets or whatnot.
