Gaming Cyberpunk 2077 (PC, PS4/5, Xbox One)

I waltzed in here to see if I should buy this game the PS4 version. I'll probably wait a couple of months.

Not an avid gamer by any means. I tend to buy one game and just play that a couple of hours a week for 6-9 months. The last time I bought a game purely on hype I ended really hating it.
yeah If I was you. I'd wait 6 months till its actually playable.

I managed to pressure a ripper doc into a discount so got it for £19k. I ended up going for the big jump and its epic.

Is that the one linked to a side mission that is in his basement? I just met him too. That’s a massive saving! I only had a quick looks this pricing after, the £15k mk2 OS available at the Watson Ripperdoc was only 12k with him - must go back to him for a more thorough look as I have a few quid again.

As I suspected there is a potentially fantastic game under all the missing features, bugs/glitches and general unfinished feel to the game. Its a shame they released it in such a state.

Apparently that's what the doctors said when you were born.

When asked about the costs of patching the game on consoles Michal Nowakowski, member of the board for publishing, said, "The cost of patching the game is irrelevant [compared] to what we have at stake at this moment, so there is no question about it. We definitely want to fix the game, we made our promise to gamers, and we will be doing everything to stick to it."

Aside from the obvious overhyping of game mechanics and outright lying about the performance of the base PS4/One versions of the game (mostly by Kicinski, to be fair) it's has to be said that it's refreshing seeing a studio not just shut down all communication and ignore the issues.

It'll probably work out for them in the long run. Patch the game, do what they can to fix the issues with AI pedestrians, police and driving (seriously, all the car chases are mission only and on rails?!) And even in twelve/eighteen months time if folk are being distracted by the latest big AAA title they might get a lot of attention with a big expansion of DLC - with the company back in gamer's good books.

They fecked up the launch, that's on them. Nothing can justify it. But they deserve some kudos for their response to it.

The videos in this Twitter thread are ridiculous. Ancient open-world games were able to remember cars and NPCs but one 360 spin of the camera and and they disappear in this...

Three more crashes in about six hours today. The game can’t go a day without one happening.

The side quests are great though.

Not really kept up with the thread and I’m sure it’s been said a few times before but... I spent about two hours walking round Night City really slowly the other night thinking I couldn’t sprint due to a bug but it turns out my rucksack was full. Cleared it out and back to normal now. It’s doesn’t help that I get serious FOMO and literally pick everything up in sight out of fear it could be important.
 not played many RPGs, I’m guessing?

It’s strange isn’t it? I’ve not had a single crash in 47hrs, a few glitches like characters floating above my car when I call them but nothing game breaking
What’re you playing on? I’m playing on an Xbox One S.

It's hard to disagree with any of the points in that thread. I personally love the physical design of the city, from the colours to the verticality. It is one of the most engrossing cities I've ever seen in a game. And yet it genuinely may as well be empty, besides the story and mission NPCs. It has the least responsive population I've seen...maybe ever? The crowd AI is miles behind even something like Assassin's Creed 1. I don't know the first thing about game development but it really seems like an adequately educated 10 year old could do better than this.

Maybe it’s just pot luck.
Probably. My issue with it was the framerate and resolution of course. So I decided to return it as this is an experience I feel I'm going to love. But Sony is obviously going to feck about and make life impossible in claiming the refund. So now I'm stuck with a game I'll probably be playing on the Ps5 6-8 months from now, and unable to buy another game for now as I've spent full price for a game on this. Sigh.

My major issues are crashes and I’d say resolution as well. It’s not bad outside of the city but when you’re downtown driving the roads look horrific. The NPC’s are terrible on the streets as well. Really lifeless. The characters in quests are really good. Some of the best I’ve ever seen

I’ve also had trouble with switching the camera when driving. Sometimes it’ll let me switch but others I’ve been stuck at first person.

I do really like the game. It’s just a massive let down that it’s been released as it was. A year from now it’ll probably be outstanding.

This!! I thought the button was broken ffs  I installed the patch but could only test it for 10mins before going to work, it does look smoother and runs a little better.

The Witcher 3 was just the same. Random NPCs would give one liners are that's it.

I think this game shows we expect better AI that this now. Open world games need to be better. They need to go back and start from basic principles, look at something like dwarf fortress and see how emergent game play can happen from base personality

Yeh that’s the one. I didn’t really think too much about it, didn’t realise they were usually so expensive. Not even sure I can remember where he is now!

I'll probably play it 6-8 months from release as I did with Witcher (1 year after launch). I understand there's issues with AI, NPCS etc. and while that too may not be fixed and I understand everyone's frustration with certain aspects (the launch state is inexecusable of course), I think we have to be realistic as well. Great games have issues /average mechanics in some areas as well.

Do they? Red Dead 2 is considered to be one of the best of late and it still pales in comparison to Witcher 3 from 2015. It's world is not meant to be one where you can do "anything" with the whole thing being totally interactable. It's more about it feeling realistic, flawed, believable, reaching to your actions, gritty and expertly put together. It doesn't for example intend to allow you for create for mayhem or goodness like GTA does for example. But it's more memorable and has better writing /storytelling and gameplay and hence is considered the greater.

Not sure what Cyberpunk is going for, that I'll find out once I properly play it on next gen.

The more I played the game the more I liked it but Im going to leave it alone for a little while until a new patch comes out and solves some of the resolution, crashes and frame rate issues Im having. This way I wont end up completely pissed off with the game. It has tons of potential so i will just wait for a little while till things improve.

Even in the main story it's pretty distracting sitting in a diner talking to someone only to see NPC's floating around and repeating the same movement over and over again

I think Red Dead’s world is better than Witcher. The random events you stumble upon feel more alive than anything anyone else has done. The way they often seamlessly start without feeling like you’re starting a side thing.

Witcher is a great, immersive game, with a fantastic story, and the world itself is very good, but it’s still a bit wooden compared to rdr2 I think.

The positive for me is that the last patch seems to have solved my hard crash issues on PS5 which was probably the biggest issue I was facing as it would kick me out pretty much every hour. Now I've managed to play for 3-4 hours solid with no crash.

Yeah, agree with this. Red Dead 2 is in a league of its own in recent games for me. There's just unbelievable attention to detail in every element of that game. It speaks volumes that you can follow any NPC for hours and it feels like they are living a proper life, work in the day, the pub at night, stumble home etc. I really hope they do a next-gen patch as i'd love to play again.

Those are definitely great. But there's something mystical about the Witcher 3's world that immersed me more. Of course technically things tend to get better with time and one could definitely argue that RD's world was better, it was amazing. But I felt the Witcher's had more lore, was more unique and had more interesting characters (the three sisters, baron, sorceress etc) who I can't forget. I know it has the liberty of course to be less realistic, being fantasy but my point is just that sometimes interactability/sandbox potential, is only one factor and a world can enthrall in different ways. I'd often just love enjoy being in the Witcher 3s world due to the visuals (at the time) and the sound track (just incredible).

The thing Rockstar do is make missions very linear so that they can pour almost all of their attention into the open world elements. The RDR2 world is amazing and the story/atmosphere was excellent too. The missions themselves are pretty weak though and offer limited replayability. We all know the infamous mission failed screens for attempting anything other than the exact railroaded approach they want you to take. Which is fine, you have to make trade-offs somewhere. But the extra effort required to make the more open missions of a Bethesda or CDPR game are a big part of the reason other open world elements end up less polished.w

Perhaps one day Rockstar will produce an RPG, that would be fascinating to see.

This would genuinely be a dream because if you can combine their world design with more free form choices and narrative you have something special. Unfortunately Rockstar know what they are good at and tend to stick with it so it’s still left to the likes of Bethesda and CDPR to deliver these kinds of games.

 The AI is shocking. Like crappy mobile games that copy gta type of shocking.

I think you are confusing AI and story.

The AI in Witcher 3 is terrible (exactly as bad as cyberpunk, which makes sense). The AI in RDR2 is not perfect but essentially the best in the world right now.

In terms of side quests and character and story Witcher 3 is great, but in terms of AI it's really bad.

But then again, HZD has really bad AI (like, terrible), and so do many others.

In one side quest, we were sitting down in a diner at one of those long tables. An NPC came over, took the seat opposite of me and proceeded to eat while staring at me creepily. Unnerved me to no end.

I genuinely thought he was going to be part of the story at first as he was staring at me so intently. Also had a bitching white suit, too good to waste on some rando.

He's in the middle of Watson and just north of the highway that goes east to west - Not too far from where you went to the 'netrunner' as part of an early story mission.
